Hi!

Anyone here retired military?

I just got off the phone with DCL and they are offering discounts for retired military for the May 12, 2007 transatlantic cruise.

The CM there said this was a first for Disney and they may offer it on more cruises in the furute if there is good respone to this one.

So, if you're eligible, call DCL and see if your rate went down!

and oh I would give just about anything to be able to go with you all.

I figured my family could catch one of those military Spave Available flights back to Jacksonville, Florida from Rota , Spain after the cruise.

But, we just can't take the time off right now.

I hope someone benefits from this!

Any idea what "great rates" for retired Military are? My parents are retired military....I wonder if they'd be able to do it since they're already coming to the World with us for the week prior....I wonder if they'd be able to make the trip with us. My mother is so jealous that we're doing this she can't see straight....and by the time we get there my brother and his family will already be living in Germany (they actually move to Germany this coming Wednesday)....so afte rthe cruise my parents might even decide to go up and stay with them for part of hte summer instead of coming home right away....hmmmmm......if anyone hears what hte rates are like for retired military, let me know.

oh and p.s. Sky High is one of my favorite movies...I love it! I had high hopes actually that the ill-fated "Zoom" starring Tim Allen and Courtney Cox woudl be as good....but it was a big let down.

Oh so much when on while I was out! Let's see what is still in my brain and has not leaked out.

Kelly -- Love Sky High! Especially "Hero Support!"

Cabin number 8598 Right down at the end. Which is really great. We had 8080 (I know someone has that cabin this time) last time and Dh like being able to go up the back stairs to get coffee each morning. I would have loved to been upgraded to a Cat 3, but I wasn't holding my breath.

Lori

Welcome to deck 8!!! That's gonna be the "fun deck" cuz that's where we are! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Funny you should say that about Zoom. We finally got it from Netflix last week and had the same high hopes, and felt a similar let down (it was very mediocre).

Seems like just about everybody got into a cat. 10 or higher but us. We have two cat. 11s. Hank and Jan are in 6004 and We are in 6002. We have sailed in cat. 11s as often as not, and I thought it wouldn't bother me at all, but I am finding I feel cheated when it looks like everyone else is better off. Why doesn't Disney like me? I figured we deserved some pixie dust as we have missed Castaway Cay on half our cruises due to weather.Oh well, we WILL enjoy the crusie and perhaps an upgrade will come along, and we can always try at the port as well.

AAAWWWW!! I"m sure Disney likes you Hadley....but even if they don't, Jason and I already adore you!! You can come hang out in our cabin....it's a category 4 so it's bigger than we've ever had before so we're not sure waht we're gonna do with all the space anyway (in fact, Jason doesn't even know we're IN a category 4....He thinks we're in a category 8 because back when upgrades were cheap I secretly upgraded and never told him and since technically I"m the planner he has no idea the room number even changed!! :lmao: )

I'll cross my fingers htat you get an upgrade or a better room assignment, too!

We only just watched it a few weeks ago, too. Jason rented that and Poseiden....and we didn't really love either. Although we DID see The Last Mimzy over this past weekend and we both really enjoyed that! :)

Hmmm. The previews for The Last Mimzy did not grab us. But, perhaps we will try it next week based on your recomendation as we seem to have similar tastes.

Did anyone rush right out to see Meet The Robinsons today? If so please review. Thanks.

Thanks. I am trying very hard not to care right now. Can't imagine why it bugs me so much. I'd LOVE to come by and check out your palatial room sometime just to see what I am missing. What a great surprise for Jason.

I suggest you call DCL and ask them what the retired militay discount for your parents would be. It can't hurt to ask, right?

Hadley - maybe because you needed 2 rooms together and that was all they had. There is still time for more upgrades!

True. We did not ask or expect to be near each other (weren't on the other 2 previous cruises we took with them on DCL). I am really mad at myself for caring. It shouldn't bother me and I know that.

We actually wanted the Handicapped accessible 1 bedroom suite on deck 8, but somebody else already got it, so we are on Deck 7 at the very back of the ship, BUT the room is accessible, so that's more important than the suite.....

We are going to bring our airbed for my DH tp sleep on because the sofa bed is uncomfortable for him!

Jason and I are not going to see Meet hte Robinsons because it's showing on the boat so we figured we'll wait and watch it onboard.

I think you guys might like Mimzy....you said that Rio like fantasy and sci fi books/stories, right? If so then I think you'll like it. It is a sci fi film for sure...but it also has a really good message that is: one part environmentalist in nature, one part about how how our reliance on technology (computers, ipods, video games, blackberries, etc.) is forcing us to lose our human connections (ironic to mention in an online message board, i know :rotfl2: ), one part about the power of family, and one part about recognizing the innocence and beauty of children......so I definitely like all those themes.....and roll it all into a pretty female-empowered story where a special little girl is the key to save all humanity and I'm sold for sure!!! ;) The only thing that would have made it better was singing and dancing!!!

I just finished baking 10 dozen chocolate chip cookies for the bake sale at our Hunter's Creek women's Association Spring fund raiser! The first 2 didn't turn out well, needed more flour, so my family gets to eat them!

The doc said I could get our of the wheelchair and go to a cane for 6 weeks, and go back to work a couple days a week. And I get to go into the swimming pool, FINALLY! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :yay: :yay: :yay:

BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME CHECK THESE ITEMS OUT.

  • CELL PHONES IN EUROPE. Renting a “Global” phone is not a good buy if it only works in some counties but not in others. An unlocked T-Mobil or Cingular phone may be best buy. Henri and I use a French telecom phone and to maintain our number we leave it in Europe when in the states. That way our European friends use it from time to time and we never lose our number.
On the web site “Slow Travel” there is a good article on cell phones.

You'll be sprinting before you know it!

I just hope I am walking without any support by the time we go on the cruise!

I called cingular today and was told that my model of phone will work in Spain and all of Europe. I will call a couple of more times to be sure.

hi,

i have a spanish unlocked tmobile phone, with charger etc. that anyone is welcome to use -- just keep it. you can buy sim cards pay as you go, online - cheap (about $35.00 including minutes)-- i used moviefone the summer i spent in madrid (vodaphone is really popular in Espana too). the great thing about european cell phones is that your minutes spent on a receiving call do NOT go against your minutes (unlike usa).. so the most cost effective way, is to buy a /sim card with a minimum amount (maybe 10 euros) and have your friends/family ring you. text messaging also works well.

Thanks for the review. Those are definately themes we like! Our local movie theatre is also a sit down restraurant (really--you sit at long tables and wait staff bring you meals while you watch). We have some free passses which will expire soon so I think I'll take the kids for dinner and Mimzy when David is gone next week. Rio does enjoy sci-fi (Flight of the Navigator was a big hit and Star Trek TNG is a nightly thing at our house). Though, his favourites are musicals (HSM, Annie, Singin' In the Rain, etc.) and 80s flicks (Ferris Bueller, Footloose, Bill and Teds, etc.) Poor child has been so warped by his parents:rotfl: . Marika is really not a big movie fan but will go with us to just about anything. Girl power is always good for her.

cquick--glad to hear the doc. is giving good reports. Sounds like you'll be in fine shape for the trip.:upsidedow

Don't feel bad. You are not alone. We got a cat. 11 also. If I don't get upgraded some more, I may check into an upgrade at the port.
