I'm still sort of kind of on the fence between the two repos...will decide by tomorrow...but am leaning towards this one. We will be, at time of cruise....
Jennifer, older than most of you!!!
DD-Chelsea, 17; DD-Emilie, 4; and DD-Liliana, 2.
We will probably be in our "usual" and favorite Cat. 9, with early dining.
We live in the S.F. East Bay Area.
And, YES, we want and need to adopt a Grandma and Auntie....Pretty Please!!! My life is crazy and I can use all the help I can get!!!
2008 will be my and Chelsea's 6th DCL cruise, Emilie's 3rd, and Lili's 2nd. We're taking off this summer....can't see flying to Europe with a 1 year old and a 3 year old. All the more reason to choose May over August....I don't think I could wait those extra months!!!
As I'm a single mom, I would love to join others for Palos meals.

Looks like we're going to have lots of solo ladies, sisters and single mom's. Bet'cha we'll be planning some some 'ladies who lunch' meals, 'rock the boat' club nights, and :thumbsup2 late night hot chocolate gatherings at Cove Cafe! (Drop some Frangelico in my hot choclate, please!)

I wondered when you'd pop in Jen...glad to see you here :goodvibes

:lmao: I bet you are not older than some of us! We have a grandson the same age as your oldest child! :lmao: But we are still kids at heart! :thumbsup2

I was wondering what kind of shore exursions they had on the cruise, any special things to look forward to doing, or anything I can make plans for my DH and I to do.

:surfweb:

They had amazing things on board, particularly during the at sea days. You go quite a while between ports on this cruise. But we had very interesting lectures by a lady who was born and raised in the canal zone -- can't remember her name off the top of my head [probably because my head is tired!]; Tom McAlpin was on board; Donald Ducky Williams was on board; and we had a midnight showing of the first Pirates movie (by special request).

The day we went through the Canal was a very special day. Actually started before dawn with everyone scoping out their places on deck to take part in this amazing adventure. They had their first ever barbeque by Goofy's pool. It was special day all the way around.

On the 2005 crossing we stopped at Curacao [where they make the liquor]. We went on an around the island tour and then went to the Hatto caves. Now, where I come from, the caves are 55 degrees! Not these caves. Try 100 degrees and 100 percent humidity. OMG!

After the canal we stopped in Acopolco [sp???]. We didn't really care for that port. Natives very agressive. Not anything like we thought it would be. This time, we will probably stay on the ship. I'm not a big fan of Mexico.

Then we went to Mazatlan and took the Sierra Madre tour. It was ok. But when you stop at an "authentic" Mexican workshop to buy their goods and then when you get on the bus and they pack up and go home in the middle of the day -- authentic? I don't think so.

The best place we stopped was Cabo -- I loved Cabo. We went snorkling there. It really was a lot of fun.

When I go home tonight I will try to find some of our Navigators from that trip. If you have a fax number, sent it to my PM. I'll fax some of them to you.

We will have a great time. I can't wait.

Leslye

Acapulco has the cliff divers that everyone should see once. We love Mexico, Puerto Vallarta is our favorite!

Thanks ever so much for the offer. I PM'd you my fax number.

I have been to all of the ports you mentioned that we will stop on the trip and agree in general about the ports, especially Acapulco. On one of my cruises we went to Copala in Matzatlan. Is that where you went in the Sierra Madre?

Hope to see you on the cruise.

Hi everyone! The auditors are gone! They are coming back for all my reciepts. For those of you who do this, they asked for 100% asset verification for the last 3 years. I have to pull every asset reciept to prove state sales tax was charged. I have been doing it for 2 days. I even made the IT purchasing manager come help me. He has a reciept problem. My assistant is pregnant and just looks at me like she is going to cry because all the files for the early years are on the floor. We decided she is not responsible for 2004.

I read the post that said someone had no problem getting a cat 3 repo for this summer several months after they became available. Is that because they were in the med? Do you think this will be more profitable?

For those of you who are faxing to the concierge for palo, anyone who has any idea when we should request please speak now. I know at least 3 of us who will fax as soon as we have a reservation number. Birkner, if you get those navigators, do you want to make assumptions or should we just wait?

This is provided I can actually get a cat 3..... Is everyone else in IC?

Lots of people have told me that---about it being easier after the first year. I'm doing OK. I haven't earned an A in any of my classes yet, but I'm hanging in there. I think I've technically made it through most of what would be considered first year classes if I had gone full time. I've completed Torts 1, Civ Pro 1, Property 1, Property 2, Crim Law, Contracts 1, Contracts 2, Professional Responsibility, Legal Research & Writing. I was scheduled for Crim Pro and Con Law 1 this term before I decided to take a break.

Yup, that sounds like first year to me. Plus some maybe. I think I had property in year two - but I was in a 4-year part time program. At our Law school, University of Akron, the Contracts professor was the "weeder". Most people thought she was a real witch. Total Socratic method - made you feel like you were a character in "The Paper Chase". You had to stand and brief when called on, and if she even thought you were using a canned brief, she would come right up on you and look at your notes to see if they were really yours. If not, you were admonished in front of the entire class.

(I liked her class - did all my own work, but the most I could get was a B+)

PJ - looks like someone else needs an aunt . . .

And Jennifer, don't think you're older than us . . . we have a 19 year old, and a 6 year old.

I saw that, I already labeled myself DIS auntie.

Thanks for all the well wishes today for my grandmother. :goodvibes She came out of surgery fine, and I picked her up earlier than expected. Now we have to wait for some biopsy results, but we're praying and using positive thinking.

Pretty funny- I'm an attorney too!!

I actually went to law school FT and worked FT (don't tell the admissions committee--- we were only supposed to be able to work up to 20 hours a week if we were going to law school FT!). I wouldn't have been able to afford the tuition and living expenses if I worked PT. I used to go to class in the morning, drive to work, back to class and back to work on most days!

I also met my husband during the first month of law school. He was so sweet. He used to come over and make me dinner or just hang out while I studied. The first year was the hardest. After the first semester I considered dropping out, but my parents and DH convinced me to stick with it. I'm glad I did!

I didn't get an A in any of my courses until my VERY LAST semester. I continued working FT until the week of the bar exam, and was so nervous because other people took about 2 months to do nothing but study! Luckily I passed.

I think it helps to work and do law school at the same time, because it prepares you better for life as an attorney. These days I'm self-employed. I have my own law practice, and I'm a FT mom. The best part is that my DD can come to work with me and "the boss" doesn't care.

Hey Jen!!! I remember you from the last cruise and the boards!!! (before we were banned...)

You might want to check the roll call because we have another single mom with kids in the East Bay area!!

Welcome to the Ship of Thieves!!

Hmmmmmmm . . . we better quit telling people how many attorneys and to be attorneys we have on this cruise . . . they will think that our thread is well-named.

I keep thinking that someday I want to have my own practice . . . and perhaps someday I will.

(Maybe we could do some quick seminars on the cruise for CLE credit, and you could write it off as an expense!)

Okey Dokey - Roll call has been updated again with all the new people I can find. Again, please PM me with your info...going thru the roll call pages is going to result in me needing a stronger prescription for my glasses!!! :surfweb:

Also, you might want to check out the roll call as it appears we have lots of folks who are pretty dang close to each other, some are even in the same city!!! So, check it out and see if you can start doing some early pre cruise meets where you can share your sorrow over the cruise being over a year away with somone who knows and understands your pain!!! :rotfl2:

I will not be doing any updates on Friday or Saturday. My dad is having surgery and I have to take him and if he comes home I am spending the night with my folks and if he has to stay over night, I will be there also. My mom doesn't get around well at all, so my daughter is staying with her during the surgery. So I could use some pixie dust that everything goes well and I am back again on Saturday.

Laura-- Good luck with your dad's surgery!!

It seems this is the surgery week for people on this thread!

ok, going upstairs to get ready for bed. It's been a LONG day!!!

Just a quick off topic.

I just told my husband (also John) that you are a grad of University of Akron. He got his Masters Degree in EE in 1971. Right Noise Relaxation in a Plated Wire Memory was his master thesis. What a mouthful!!

He worked for Goodyear Aerospace at the time (DH was born in Akron but raised in California) and was sent to Kwajalein (an atoll in the Marshall Island) but that is another story in itself.
