That sounds lovely Marilyn.....I like the relaxing part....no Christmas rushing around. When do you see all the grandkids for Christmas?

We see 6 all together on Christmas Day, 2 of those again on Boxing Day, and then baby Molly a couple of days later. Declan lives in Ireland, so we will see him on a trip sometime in late Jan early Feb.

Over here most places close down for the whole period between Christmas and New Year unless retail, service industries or are needed. With Christmas Eve being on a Monday most close today, so it is a long holiday till the 2nd Jan. We have a public holiday on the 1st - do you?

Our cinemas close on Christmas Day so Lisa you wouldn't get to see a movie that day. There is no public transport at all either.

The one and only! There will probably be no more which I think is for the best.

Wow, that makes him very very special....enjoy your time together today and have a very special Christmas together.

How great to see 6 of the grandkids together on Christmas....it must be a mad scene opening presents together....but oh what fun. You'll need some relaxing quiet time after all that!!!

Wow, everything really closes down for a long time over there. Most places only close Christmas day and New Years day over here. Most things should be open inbetween Christmas and New Years. Usually public transportation runs for both holidays but on a limited schedule. Very different.

So who has off Monday and Tuesday and who has to work?

Even though he works for a teaching hospital facility, John has to work on Monday but he has off on Tuesday.

Anybody have off both days? Anybody working both days?

What a nice long weekend if you have both days off.
Long weekend????

Work - Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday . . .:sad1:

Off Tuesday:santa:

MAYBE off W-F next week!

The whole country goes shopping in that period between Christmas and New Year. There are some good sales, but I keep away from the shops then. Some people buy all next year's Christmas presents in those sales too.

Wow that's a brutal work schedule John.....I really hope you get off Wed thru Fri next week......you're going to need it!

What a crazy time of the year!

Shopping would be the last thing on my mind after Christmas....who has any money left anyway??? But I bet the sales are really good.

There are some good sales, though not as good as they used to be. For a few years many have started before Christmas as sales have been slow, but there aren't many that have this year.

When I was young some of the big department stores in London had queues for a few days with people camping outside. They used to have some amazing deals, but those days have gone now.

We'll open our gifts Christmas morning before heading out to the movies.

Great Idea! I think we might do that this year, DM has several movies she wants to see and I have coupons for 10 free movie tickets and she has two free movies. Movie week!

Pj

I will have to work Thursday and Friday next week, then head back for Wednesday-Friday the week afterwards.

We have a national holiday called Boxing Day, that government, banking and some stores are closed for.

Pj

Marilyn and PJ.....what is Boxing Day??? I'm thinking of boxers going into a ring or boxes that I wrap presents in.....neither one of them seems like they would make a national holiday. Please enlighten me!

Historically, The celebration is traditional, dating back to the middle ages, and consisted of the practice of giving of gifts to employees, the poor, or to people in a lower social class.

Today, Boxing Day is a public holiday celebrated in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia and many other Commonwealth countries on December 26, the day after Christmas Day or alternatively on the next weekday after Christmas.

Canada
In Canada, Boxing Day is observed as a holiday, except (in some cases) for those in the retail business. Boxing Day and the days immediately following are when many retail stores sell their Christmas and retired model products by holding clearance sales. Some shoppers will line up for hours at night (sometimes before midnight and after midnight on December 26) for retailers to open their doors. (has becomes kind of our Black Friday)

Sport
From a sporting perspective, Boxing Day in Canada has many implications. It is usually on Boxing Day when the IIHF begins the World Junior Hockey Championship. This is a significant event for Canada and Hockey Canada which have done extremely well at this particular international event. Boxing Day is also the start of another international hockey tournament: The Spengler Cup. This tournament, usually played in Davos, Switzerland, along with the World Juniors, are aired on the two big sports networks in Canada

I just know that we get a day off to recover from the turkey coma.

PJ

Dennis and I will be heading out in a few minutes to begin and finish our Christmas shopping. :scared: Tree is still not up. I decided not to bother, then found out the DDIL and DGS (PJ Aaron is here!) will be spending Christmas Day with us. So....Dennis said I really, really need to put the tree up. DDIL said not to worry about it. HMMMM....what to do. We will see how I feel tomorrow. DS will be in CA by himself for the holiday. :sad1: But, he did get to come up in Oct for our anniversary and DDIL and Aaron did not.

Just a drive by post. I've been at school all day...DS class party and then DD class pj party...came home to eat lunch to head back out and pick DD from school run an errand then pick up DS from school. We have DBIL visiting and staying with us this past week and he'll be here another week and DMIL and DFIL coming this Sunday. Still have to go grocery shopping that'll be fun:eek: I always wait to the last minute because I don't like my fridge packed with so much food that it overflows...so I always make a fresh turkey so I don't have to worry about thawing it out. I think I'm making a turkey and a ham...some people like one and others the other. Everyone is staying with us so I make everything alone...but I've done that for years. Looking forward to not driving the kids to school and making their lunches and homework etc..:woohoo: I never got Christmas lights up this year aand I think we'll just be happy with the tree and wreaths outside:thumbsup2 But next year I'm taking pointers from gydell and I'll get it done early and fast:goodvibes Have a good Christmas if I don't get on the computer again!

Haven't caught up so I'm sure I missed a lot...but did see a few things browsing....

Happy belated birthday Amy and Noel:dance3:

Holly- hang in there with Tyler keep at it ...I'm sure they'll figure out what it is...and you are a good mom...you care!!!:goodvibes Heard a little about an old friend and he called ...hope that goes well....I'm a hopeless romantic so I jump into wedding plans with DCL too:laughing: but I do know that it may be or not meant to be...I hope it is;)

Disneylover-hope everything is ok with DFIL...I was so happy he came out of the coma but later heard he put him back in one....hope he is ok...take care of yourself.

Marilyn-I don't think I saw all the pics but the ones I did I absolutely loved:love: I'm glad you both had fun...May will be even more fun:cool1:

Welcome Matt:yay: and anyone else new.

Jackie- Satisfied frog ...chili beer:thumbsup2 I'll try it just to try it but I'm a wimp with spicy foods...even mild is spicy for me:sad2:

YEAH! I'm finished with my wrapping. I did all of John's gifts except for one and I did all of the kid's gifts. The kid will wrap the last one for John and all of Ray's. John will wrap all of mine. Then we can have Christmas. Oh, we need some egg nog.....then we can have Christmas.

Tomorrow I have things to mail out in the morning and then that's the last of doing things for the holiday. Time to kick back and enjoy. YEAH!!!

How many people give tips for the holidays? I give our mail lady a holiday lotto and a gift certificate to Radio Shack. But she is the only one I tip. Do any of you tip other people?

Wow it's really really quiet on here today....everyone must be getting ready for the Big day and frolicing about.

Or they're all out of town visiting the Mouse!
