No, after Tyler went to bed I was on the phone with my dad, telling him about our awful day. Tyler's suspended again, but only for tomorrow. I hope he makes it through the week becaues his class Christmas party is Friday. Then he'll be off for 2 weeks and the psych appointments start after that. Anyway, then I was on the phone with my Lia Sophia manager talking about my upcoming 3 parties, and arranging a day for us to get together to give me some training. Then I was on the phone with my mom giving her Christmas gift ideas. By the time people finally stopped calling me, it was late enough where I wasn't sure I should call. But I suppose it doesn't hurt to keep him wondering if I'll call. ;)

I fully understand....what a horrible day for you. It seems that Tyler acts up whenever his routine is changed. You might want to try talking to him about changes and see what he says. Just a thought! Hang in there....you'll be taking him to the doctor soon.

yes...it was 47 here this am...still chilly out. I walked over to Walgreens to get some Claritin...nothing is working for me!

Make sure your getting the Claritin from the pharmacist not the stuff on the shelf. A friend of mine culdn't figure out why Claritin stopped working for her and found out they have 2 different formulas now. The one on the shelf is the new kind and the pharmicist has the old kind.

I'm assuming all states now keep the cold medicines behind the pharmacy counter nto just CA.

Here is my story for today. I had a TERRIBLE work day. Sometimes I just hate my job. I wish I could figure out how to quit and still feed my family. :rotfl2:

I went to the hospital at 4:30pm and they had just taken out Frank's ventalator. He was able to breathe on his own!! But in the CVICCCU (CardioVascular Intensive Critical Cardiac Care Unit) all the rooms are all glass.
Frank's door was shut (looks like a sliding glass door) and there was a HUGE sign DO NOT ENTER ISOLATION. See nurses station before entering. Then there was all these other rule signs.....wash hands for 2 minutes, wear gloves, wear gown, ...plus more I can't remember.

I went to the nurses station and he has a bacterial infection and he will be in isolation for 10-12 days. They did not seem very worried about it?? Anyway I followed all the rules and went in. It was so good to hear him say a few words. He did keep asking me why his wife (my DMIL) was not there (she passed away 2 1/2 years ago). He kept asking for my DH. I was allowed to swab water inside his mouth (first water he has had for a week) and he LOVED that. I asked for vaseline for his lips and they gave it to me. I stayed for about 3 hours. Much longer than I had planned, but he did not want me to leave. I didn't want to leave either....but I was getting really tired and it is a long drive home from the hospital.

I guess all in all it is a good report for Frank. Certainly better than yesterday...except for the infection. Tomorrow he will start PT, if he is still doing good.

Thanks again for all the prayers and concern

Thats great news - sounds encouraging!

Lisa, I'm sorry you had a bad day at work. I can totally relate (most days). But what great news about Frank! How encouraging!

Isn't terrible that we can't reach out and find the work we really want to do and be happy in our work. I have done that same type of work most of my adult life and it used to be satisfing..now I just do work for the pay check. It really feels empty now. I guess I need to start buying Lotto tickets.:rotfl2:

In VA we have this same law. I think this is a Federal law and now managed by the states.

Looks like no one is on here. It is 1:48am East Coast. I was thinking some of out CA friends would be here. I went to bed and slept for a little while but now I am wide awake. I hope to be able to go back to sleep. I hate these nights.

I found this recipe.

ROAST PRIME RIBS OF BEEF

1 (3 rib) roast of beef (without short ribs)
Flour
Salt
Coarsely cracked black pepper

Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Remove roast from refrigerator and place in a shallow open roasting pan. Sprinkle with flour and rub into the meat. Season generously with salt and pepper. Place a tent of aluminum foil loosely over the top of the roast. Place in an extremely hot 500 degree oven. Roast for 8 minutes per pound for rare.
When roasting time is up, turn off oven heat. Do not open oven door. Let roast remain in the oven at least 1 hour. Standing time and individual oven differences will determine degree of rareness in center of roast.

Serves 6.

Ps. One other recipe says to make sure your oven is completely clean before cooking this....hummmmmmm:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This sounds really yummy...

HORSERADISH HOLLANDAISE SAUCE

1/2 pound unsalted butter

1/4 cup drained, prepared horseradish

1 tablespoon white wine vinegar

1 tablespoon heavy cream

2 egg yolks

1 tablespoon water

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Keep warm.

Place horseradish, vinegar and cream in blender. Puree until smooth, stopping from time to time to scrape down sides with a rubber spatula. Scrape into bowl and reserve.

Place egg yolks in a nonreactive saucepan. Whisk in the water and the salt. Place over medium-low heat. Slowly pour the warm butter into the egg yolks, whisking constantly. After all the butter has been incorporated, continue whisking approximately 3 to 5 more minutes over low heat, until the sauce is fluffy and has almost doubled in volume. Remove from heat and continue whisking until the sauce is lukewarm.

Whisk in the reserved horseradish puree. Serve immediately.

Makes 1 2/3 cups.

-Flour the roast lightly
-Then season it any way you prefer
-Put into a 500 degree oven for 5 minutes per pound ---where is my calculator ??
-Then shut the oven off and do not---repeat do not--open the door for 2 hours. The outside is crisp and the meat is cooked medium rare. If someone likes it well done (sinful) a slab of outside meat is usually fine, or throw a chunk in a frying pan and brown for a minute or so.

So many of these recipes I have been reading says youshould serve with Yorkshire Pudding. Exactly what is that?

At least he has a room!

So do we!!!:lmao: No roof to speak of but who needs one of those in the Caribbean etc?:rotfl2:

Gydell and Marilyn....roomies....check this out.....I just called DCL and asked when I was going to get a room assignment. They said not until close to our sail date. I said I wanted to request deck 5 aft and she said to contact DU and have them call DCL to put in my request. I just emailed DU and told them what DCL said.

Darn! No assignments until close to our sail date.....looks like we're stuck in these lifeboats for good!

Typical!:sad1:

Sorry about your work day Lisa. Things look better for Frank, though the infection is a bit of a blow.

Oh yum - will give this a go.

I think I will clean my oven tomorrow.

They are a traditional accompaniment to roast beef and very popular. It is a flour, egg and milk batter which rises when cooked. Historically it was served before the meat meal to fill people up cheaply, but we have them on the same plate these days. I will look out a recipe, but they can be difficult to get right. We can buy ready made ones now and they just pop into the oven for 5 mins to warm up. Needs a tasty gravy pouring into the centre.:)

Here you go.

Those look like they should look!!!

Again, historically it was cooked in one big dish and cut up. My mother cooked it this way and a chef at a restaurant where I waited on as a teenager, but I have never seen them made that way since.

Rooms on the East bound cruise seem to be opening up. I guess as that cruise gets closer more rooms will open up.

This looks pretty tastless. What kind of gravy do youput into it. Maybe I will make and just try it before Christmas

I guess on their own they might seem tasteless, but I do love them. I think any gravy you serve with the beef wil be great. I always like a lot of gravy.

You are up late Lisa.

You are up late Lisa.

Well, I went to bed at 10am and woke up wide awake at 1:30ish am and stayed awake till about 3:30 or 4am. My alarm goes off at 5:55am for Vanessa....she just left for school.

I am going to go to Starbucks and get an extra shot so I can wake up.

I guess all the stress of work and Frank and my mom has finally gotten to me.

My mom is not sick ..... she really is fine. The best Don and I can figure is that she is jealous that I am at the hospital so much with Frank and not here to take care of her. She has been so incredibly mean. She said terrible things about my brother yesterday and she will not call Vanessa by name anymore...if she refers to her at all she calls her "that girl".

She complained to me by phone yesterday that my children are spoiled and my DH is lazy and selfish. He is a minister and with Christmas coming, this is the busiest time of the year for him and we both know he can not be away right now. I am carrying most of the hospital issues, but Don does go by everyday at least for a few minutes.

I don't think she understands the concept of family anymore. We all try to help each other and work together......just makes her mad, I guess.

I was going to work *** next week, but now I think I will take off. I asked my boss and he didn't care. He is off as well.

Lisa - Hope your FIL is doing good today!

Seems like I remember some people having b'days this week. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

To those of you leaving on trips - Have a great time!

Deb & Marilyn - At least our lifeboat will be a kewl hangout!

Oh Lisa, how hard dealing with ageing parents like your mom. Emotionally it is harder than if they had a physical illness as it just keeps going on and on. You know you are doing all you can for her under your very difficult circumstances at the moment - in fact you seem to be going above and beyond.

Lots of love and  and a few more Starbuck shots for you.

oh Lisa, I sure hope your day gets better today.

I have been in a meeting all morning trying to explain financials to a non-financial person. Not a fun thing to do.

You are up late Lisa.

I had gotten a recipe for these from some British friends we met on the 10 day cruise in 2004. I do make them at Christmas with my prime rib roast and they are quite tasty with the gravy. Yum! Just DrHug and I for Christmas dinner this year most likely so I picked up a small primerib roast. I think I will try the 500 degree thing. :thumbsup2 Note.....clean oven! :rotfl: :lmao:
