HAPPY BIRTHDAY PJ (A BIT BELATED I THINK!):cheer2:

I just got an email from my TA (had to get disney my new address)...she said that they heard DCL wouldn't be announcing excursion plans until January :sad2: Hopefully this is wrong and they will get things together quicker than that! January just doesn't leave us much planning time, :lmao: :rotfl2:

Just stopping by with a quick note.

Can't remember if I updated you with the last info on mom...the surgeon detected an irregular heart beat. After a visit with the cardiologist on Friday it has been decided that surgery is still on for Thursday. The hard part on this is that she has a much higher risk for stroke/heart attack during the surgery and mom has a DNR. Much worry I'm afraid until it's over. I'll try to check in between now and then, but I'm feeling a bit outta my mind, so not sure if I am up to it.

We also have some baby news in my family. My cousin's son & girlfriend have delivered their twin girls very early at 27 weeks. Both girls are just over 2 lbs. Nothing seriously wrong with them, but they are on vents and will be in the NICU until they are 5 lbs. Their first child was 4 lbs, so this isn't an uncharter area, but nonetheless scary.

I'll be sending prayers and pixie dust your way on Thursday:hug: Hope everything goes really well and you can both begin to get some rest and peace of mind. I'm so sorry you are going through this.

Congrats on the new twins in your family:cloud9: :cloud9: i can't even imagine a little one at 2 lbs. Wishing them all the best.

Thank you for the congrats on my granddaughter.

Kathe

I was afraid of that - probably more violence and sex instead of good stories, which is what I was afraid of. I LOVED those original shows when I was a kid - the Six Million Dollar Man, and the Bionic Woman.

Just out of curiousity Noel, are you a Battlestar Galactica fan? A friend hooked me on that one last year.

I used to watch the original Battlestar Galactic but did not get hooked on the new one yet. I am a huge Star Trek fan and tend to watch all their reruns of all the various shows. I loved the original Stargate movie but could never get into the series. Do you remember Roswell? My youngest DD liked that series.

John,

As always, you have succinctly put into words the profound truth of the "Evidence of Life". Sometimes life does become a bit overwhelming... but it does make me very appreciative of it when it is not as "Evident" sometimes!

My sister's house is ALWAYS perfect. She is a neat freak anyway, but she also lives alone, which I know also has it's own set of trade-offs... anyway, sometimes I am very embarrassed when she stops in and my house has WAY too much "evidence" in it!!

I know, I know, getting over it! I agree that the alternative would not be enjoyable!! (I think...)

Karen

My DH's sister Sheryl is a single woman who lives alone and is very organized. I think it is difficult for her to spend too many days with us and the GK's as she just is not used to the chaos and the noise. In her defense, she is a wonderful aunt to all the kids and they love her dearly.

Marilyn - CONGRATS on baby Molly! I know she will be loved

Kathe - I'll bore you with some of my simple scrapbooks when you're here if you want me to (heehee). Also, enjoy your new baby girl....my parents love having their new granddaughter (Sydney is 7 months old now). I love the fact that they named Serenity after the prayer....that will serve as a daily reminder!

John - loved the pics!

Can't believe it's Monday already! UGH!!
Monica, I would love to see some of your scrapbooks, please DO bring them!Love the pic of Sydney, what a sweetheart.
:cool1:

Very best wishes to you and your DS and soon to be DDIL, and of course SERENITY (I love that name) If your son doesn't own a camera might be time for him to get one!!!! you will want tons of pixs of the baby and this time will pass before you know it. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Thank you John. My son does have a camera and we have both been busy taking pics, but he hasn't had any time to play at the computer and he goes back to Alberta tomorrow, so not sure if he'll get any done before he goes. Me, I just took them to the store to develop cause I had to start showing my granddaughter off to everyone right away;)

Thank you to everyone for all the best wishes for Serenity. I went to post last night after "multi-quoting" to a few posts and the dis went down:headache: I have to rush off to work now, so I'm sorry if I missed thanking you, but I have finally caught up on reading!

Happy Birthday PJ and John

party: :bday:

Mote in Gods' Eye, Lucifers Hammer, Stranger in a Strange Land and on and on...

Both DD and I love Sci Fi, fantasy, thrillers and horror!! I also love mysteries and adventure novels that tie to history, like Clive Cussler books. I also enjoy the police/detective novels like Harry Bosch and Jack Reeper and the Italian detective that is not coming to me at the moment... must be time for bed soon!

Have you guys read "the Historian" yet?

Karen

I love ELizabeth Peters, Clive Cussler, Carol O'Connell, Michael Connelly, W.E.B. Griffin to just name a few.

Is that the Elizabeth Kostova book?

Nan..... and pixiedust for you and your family during this hard time. You are all in our thoughts.

We ended up going to the AG store on Friday and spent the rest of the weekend at Disneyland. Paul & Wilson gave up their race. I needed some away time. I have to say even the Happiest Place on Earth didn't make me happy. I was missing my mom's company the whole time.

thanks for sharing this with us. I needed to have a piece of peace today and this was just the ticket.

okay, I did see alot of lime in Dland and thought of you guys every time, that I must admit gave me a bit of happiness. :goodvibes

It was very beautiful, thanks for sharing your pictures. I'll try to pull mine out to share soon.

Yup, Noel is right. We are booked for NYE 2008, but Paul isn't keen on the idea...he is thinking 2 cruises in one year is too much....I figure I don't have to pay for it until October and by then he'll be missing Panama Time....

I have heard no make ups, but if you are in town for at least one of the days then your child can cram and take it. I've also decided just to opt the kids out of it. It's not worth the stress.

So wonderful!!!

Even more great news...you know I love that Molly name. :lmao:

Nan, I wish there was something I could do to help you with your mom. I know the surgeons are always concerned with potential heart issues as I heard that enough during my own surgery. Please let me know if there is anything I can do!! If you need help with childcare or anything!!

I wish you and Paul were on NYE this year with us. I know my GK's and your kids would have a blast together. We will have to get them together at some point!!

Congrats to your cousin and their new twins!!

OK, my scifi reading friends. I need recommendations for STAND ALONE (no trilogies, series, etc) books. It's my quest every time I'm in the book store and I haven't been having much luck.

I've got the newest paperback Dick Francis myster on my nightstand, just waiting for me to finish up my current book. I love his stuff.

ok....lunch break over, back to work!

Hey guys, sorry I've been MIA!!

Olivia has been kind of sick with the weather changes around here, and I'm trying to work and help my mom renovate her house at the same time.

I hope everyone is doing well, and I'll try to check back in later today.

I miss you guys!!:grouphug:

Hi, nice to see you pop by!

Been to see baby Molly Kate today. She is very beautiful with a mop of black hair, quite long. All our own children were bald and didn't really get much hair till after 2 years. Looks cute.

So, no John has a birthday today then?:lmao: How did we think one did? I thought it was John1.:confused3

I started thinking about this, and it is tougher than I thought . . .

Really, ANY of Robert A. Heinlein’s novels stand on their own. Some do have sequels, and his “universe” ties many of his stories together. My Favorite (and one of my favorite novels of all time) is “Time Enough for Love”.

“Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card also stands on it’s own – although there have been sequels and prequels to the book.

Several of Isaac Asimov’s and Arthur C. Clarke’s novels also stand on their own, but with both there are also some sequels, and their universes also tie together in their work. “Rendezvous with Rama” by Arthur C. Clarke comes to mind.

“The Stand” by Stephen King (already mentioned) is also a great choice.

Another favorite book is “A Canticle for Lebowitz” by Walter Michael Miller a great post apocalypse Novel.

“The Mote in God’s Eye” by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle is also a great read . . .

Another idea would be to look up the Hugo award winners:

and the Nebula Award winners:

Birthday wishes to the birthday folks! :yay:

Monica: That picture of Sydney was very cute! Thanks for sharing it! :thumbsup2

Not much posting from me. Yesterday and today at work were SO busy, my legs felt like jello by the end of each day from all the running back and forth from one end of the office to the other all day. Then after work and school yesterday, I took Tyler to get new lenses ordered for his glasses because they're so scratched. Then he had a McDonald's playdate to attend. Then about 10 minutes after we got home, while Tyler was eating, I had a friend stop over for an unexpected visit. He played with Tyler's pirate stuff for a bit. Pretty fun!

So now I'm catching up here while Tyler eats dinner tonight.
