Noel, your description of your trip w/the grandkids made me think of a wonderful trip my grandparents took us on. I think it was '62 or '63, they took the oldest 5 grandkids (2 cousins, me and my older siblings) to Seattle for the World's Fair. The only one who didn't get to go was my youngest sister (below)--she was only about 4 at the time. She never lets us forget that either!![]()
It was such a wonderful trip and fortunately I was old enough that I remember a lot about it. As I get older I can really appreciate what an undertaking it was for them to do this! One of the things that stands out is that my grandfather made a point of us taking every mode of transportation that was available at the time--plane, train, taxi, bus, ferry, ship...and limo! It was my first ever ride in a limo (not that I've had many since) and I remember being in awe.

We did minature golf today, plus the Water Slide in Sparks and the Indy racers. Needless to say they have MUCHO tickets from the game room at the Atlantis!!
As for me, I would travel Route 66 with my grandparents from Los Angeles to Michigan a few times a year when I was a kid. My grandfather loved to drive!! We also flew and took the train.
We love to take the GK's everywhere. They are learning how to behave in social situations with adults where they are expected to behave like well behaved children with good manners and moderate voices.
I think this is one of the lessons I instilled in my children that I learned from my own Grandparents. We traveled a great deal when I was a chld and my grandparents were from the generation that children were SEEN but not HEARD.
