I have been wondering about Julie myself. There are one or two others who haven't posted in a while also.

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in ages. Haven't even been lurking. DH and I just got back from our DCL land/sea last week. Our next DCL cruise will be the 9/29/07 Eastern. I am sure that I will be following this thread more closely after our next cruise. I really need to get off of dial up to speed my computer up. I am such a procrastinater. We are definitely still going on the PC repo and looking forward to it.:woohoo:

Do you guys remember Julie - mexican-mouseketeers - I know this will sound strange but I have beenthinking about her all day long.....I wonder what happened to her.....I wonder if she is still cruising with us.??:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
I was thinking about her a lot yesterday for some reason. Probably because I visited my Mexican friends at the restaurant a couple times this week, and I remember when she mentioned how Mexican men are "machisto"......that comment just cracks me up because I SO see it in all the ones I chat with! :rotfl: Too funny! It's just a very entertaining restaurant to go to and watch the workers (all men except 1 woman who is hostess). They crack me up!

My friend, who attended the premiere of POTC:AWE said I could share her "trip report" with you all. So here it is along with her response.

Ahoy from Disneyland!

On May 19th, POTC 3 – At World’s End, World Premiere was held at Disneyland for the world to enjoy and see the grand announcement of the third film of this awesome trilogy. Of course, yours truly has been eagerly anticipating the release of At World’s End, me being crazy in love with Capt Jack Sparrow! I was honoured to have been invited to play at the World Premiere with Kapt Kula’s Pyrat Party piratical band. What better way to get onto the red carpet, be broadcast worldwide and be a part of this wonderful event!

I was told by people there that the fans began queuing up before midnight the night before, and many arrived before the park even opened at 6:30 AM to make a break for the most coveted spots along the red carpet. Fights even broke out among fans who had planted themselves and staked out their claims. Some people were ejected. Many had to be moved because room for the media, cameras and the necessary ingress/egress and safety requirements, which of course caused further dissention. By the time I arrived in the mid afternoon, many in the audience had been waiting 8-12 hours already, much in the hot sun baking, standing and jostling elbow to elbow.

After going to two employee parking lots and discovering I was at the wrong lots, I finally discovered the Cast Member/employee lot designated for performers and others hired for this event. The rest of the band met up and we were shuttled through the bowels of the backstage areas in Disneyland, to finally arrive at a soundstage/warehouse which had been converted to a dressing/costuming area, makeup area and check in area. We checked in and were handed a wristband and schedule as to when and where we were to perform. The red carpet had been divided into (8) sections and we were scheduled to perform on 4 of them. The Doxie Chicks, a fellow pirate band, was scheduled to perform on the other 4 sections at opposite times as us. There was also a parrot/pirate duo, pirate stilt walker band, jugglers, acrobats and even a lady on stilts wearing a pirate ship made out of balloons!

After receiving our assignments, we were told to report to the costuming area for costuming (many did not wear costumes and were loaned authentic-looking costuming by the costume dept.) After that, we were told to report to the makeup dept for makeup application. Of course, I refused to have my costume altered or gunk smeared on my carefully applied makeup (come on, I’m the most prima donna pirate princess already!) Most of us in Kapt Kula’s band and the Doxie Chicks band were perfectly good in the costumes we came in. Then to wait for the shuttle to take us to the “green room” waiting area where we would wait when we are not playing on the red carpet. Of course the shuttle could not drop us off where the break area was and we got dropped off at the “Inn Between” backstage where numerous Disney cast members were taking their breaks. Then we were escorted to the performers’ break area by a stage manager where we had to wade through the crowd and other cordoned off areas.

We were led to the back entrance to the “Oasis” which is the Aladdin performance area in Adventureland. Here we could sit, rest, tune up, rehearse and relax until we were needed to perform. There was boxed lunch sandwiches, water, soda and snacks provided for us, as well as the most important bathrooms and shady spots. I took a couple of photos standing in the lion’s mouth which is part of the stage for the Aladdin show. Even with all the organizing, it was still mass confusion and hectic, plenty of hard work! This was my only opportunity to wear my full pirate costume (sans weapons) in Disneyland, as the normally strict regulations prevent me from doing so and I have to wear a semi-pirate outfit when I go there.

We were escorted to the red carpet and boy could you feel the energy—it was electric! The crowd was screaming and it felt like walking on stage at a huge rock concert! There were five of us, John the flute/wind player, Mike the fiddle player, Diane the accordion player, Ray Kula the bandleader and mandolin player and myself playing bodhrán and percussion. We sang pirate shanties and played seafaring instrumentals and were initially welcomed by the crowd, who had been waiting for hours for something to happen. Cameras and video rolled and tons of footage was taken of us—but most of it ended up on the cutting room floor because the fans wanted to see the stars arriving! I only have a few pics of us playing, my favourite being under the grand entrance World Premiere sign to Main St. The TV lights were blazing and it was at least 100 degrees just standing under them. We walked down and back over the red carpet, sometimes walking and playing, sometimes stopping to entertain the crowd. Towards the end, the crowd mainly wanted to see the stars arriving and wanted us out of their line of sight to whatever star they wanted to see and we had to strategically position ourselves so as not to block the cameras and audience from the stars. We eventually were escorted to the Horse Shoe restaurant where we played to the private party being held I the VIP area. We were always guided as to where we could go and were not allowed to wander unescorted outside of our designated areas.

I ran into my friend Brandon, the Disneyland Capt Jack Sparrow as I walked out down the carpet and he was working the crowd going the opposite direction. Of course I stopped for the mandatory smooch we always exchange when we meet! Then on we both went in opposite directions. I was actually grateful we were not on the red carpet when the major stars like Depp & Bloom arrived, as it would have been way too crazy for me. I would not have even considered attending this event had it not been for the fact I was working and performing at it. Some people I know even paid $1,500 for the privilege of walking the carpet and seeing the movie! I heard someone call my name “Liberté” a few of times but it was impossible to figure out who among the crowd of thousands was yelling at me. People actually tried to talk to me as I was playing and some stars actually tried to pose with us when we were in the middle of playing and singing! I got several e-mails later from people who saw me, and when I was at Disneyland celebrating my birthday two days later, couple of girls who were huge POTC fans recognized me as I was standing in line to get a smooch and take a pic with the Disneyland Jack Sparrow.

Once we were finished (just before the movie showed) we were shuttled back to the dressing area. One pirate lamented, “Oh-Oh, NO Makeup Removal!” when he returned to the area he got painted up at. From the dressing area, we were shuttled back to the employee parking lot where we could leave and go home. Nope, seeing the movie was not part of it and I will not see it until tomorrow (Thursday) at El Capitan in Hollywood.) But I can always see the movie—it was performing at the World Premiere that was what meant the most to me!

See link below for my website page with pix from the premiere. Also link on the lower right hand corner of my home page.

Liberté Sparrow

Hmmm, I wonder who was calling her name?:rolleyes1

BHP:
Sorry it took so long to get back to you--I spent 17 hrs at El Capitan
yesterday at the POTC Marathon and midnight show! Plus I played a set
with Kapt Kula again too. Your friend must have been one of the people who
shouted my name from the audience! I heard people calling my name a
few times, but between concentrating on playing and looking out into a sea
of screaming, waving, jumping people, of course I couldn't figure out who
it was!

Yes, you may share my "review" of the World Premiere from a performer's
view on your blog, just list me as the writer and send me a link please!
Jamaica Rose is using it in her next issue of NQG too.

Looking forward to seeing you Saturday! Your sons are so adorable, I
hope you can bring them to more of our events--perfect little pirates!

Liberté Sparrow

I had to leave that last part in about my boys. It's nice to get compliments about them every once in awhile.:goodvibes

Only in L.A.: Today I saw Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kebobi, Storm Troopers, and many other Star Wars characters walking around in downtown L.A.

Apparently, there's a Star Wars convention to celebrate the movie's 30th anniversary. starwars.com

May the force be with you.

And also with you. Oh, wait, wrong religion!

In 2006, we attended a Papal Audience at the Vatican. Pope Benedict XVI was wearing a white robe that reminded me of Princess Leia's outfit in Episode IV. Coincidence?

I don't know the pope personally, but all good stories have common mythicalogical themes to them. Good guys where white, bad guys where black.:thumbsup2

Well, today was the last day of school for Jenna. She is so proud that she graduated from the 1st grade to the 2nd grade! We won't explain now, we'll just let her be proud.

Jenna also has her third piano recital tomorrow night. Don't know who does that scheduling??? Would think many would have had plans to be out of town this weekend. Not us though, why leave triple digit temperatures?!

Would like to get out of town, but our next trip won't be until the end of June for the big Dana family reunion in Salt Lake City. Sorry for the folks in SLC, but who in the family thought of this destination? Shawn is the last surviving member of his family (well, besides his sister - sad, but they are like oil and water) and I think he is trying to find any reason possible not to go with us. Can understand that it probably is a little depressing for him at times. The big event is a surprise ceremony for my father at Hill AFB. Dad was the last person to fly the X-15 (if anyone knows what that is - if interested - google Dana/X-15 and there he is in all his glory) and someone has planned something in regards to an anniversary of some sort. Should be nice though. Wow . . . . rambling . . . . . . . . .

Have a good night.

Hard to believe it's been 30 years already! I still remember, just like it was yesterday, my dad taking me to see Star Wars right when it came out. He took me to a tiny movie theater in South Haven, Michigan. That's the town my dad grew up in, and his parents lived there until they died, so I spent most of my childhood there spending weekends (and sometimes more) at my grandparents' house (a few blocks from Lake Michigan). But anyway, back to Star Wars, my dad took me 7 times because I loved it so much! :goodvibes And Burger Chef had little pins you could get of the characters....you know I had them all! :thumbsup2 Aaahhhhh.....memories! :cloud9:

Thanks for sharing that, it's always interesting to hear about the back stage arrangements at Disney events. I think Cheri may have a picture of your friend!

Boy you must have been a BABY! ;)
I remember the lines in Chicago for that! Then I remember the lines in LA for the next one, and the lines in Phoenix for the thrid! Man....I really got around in the 'olden days'!

gouodux, I'll be in town swelterig this weekend also. I'll be hitting Peg's swimming pool, going to the movies and reading books and napping...as much as each of those activities as I can cram in over three days!

we're back....OMG - it was SOOOOO GOOD! I loved it...it was sold out of course but we managed to get four seats in a row....and I am SO PROUD of my girls!! I was worried they would be fidgety and bored especially (I wasn't worried they would be frightened as mom said it was no where near the 2nd) since this was a 3 hour total of sitting therem and I feared I would not be able to see the whole movie (very selfish I know) but last year John and Samantha stayed and I ended up taking a restless Haley outside

....they were so GREAT, they sat in their big seats with a drink, popcorn and candy and watched the whole thing through the credits. Samantha only had to potty once but John did as well so no biggie there.

I don't want to give anything away, but I loved it. There were still Davy Jones creatures but somehow they just don't seem scary to me. Now we are watching Dead Man's Chest....John didn't put his costume on but did his face and his new Jack dreads he bought at WDW. I woudl pirate shirt and bandana and the girls had on their pirate costumes. Everyone had some sort of comment but I saw no other pirate lovers.....

TAKE WHAT YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
