Are you watching the Golden State / Utah game?? :happytv:

nope but the Giants game is on :happytv: DH was watching until I told him he had to go with Wilson to buy a bday present for a party tomorrow. Go Warriors!!! (ok, I want them to win, and yes I'd even watch a game with them in it) (or Santa Clara U basketball)

Gretchen and Annie are each at sleepover birthday parties (not the same one...they would kill each other!!)

Daniel just came home from work for 1 minute...changed his clothes and he is gone out with his friends....

My DH is watching a Chicago Concert on TV.......

I think I am going to go watch Bill O'Rielly re-run at 11pm.

What an exciting life I have

Paul & Wilson out buying a bday gift
Molly out playing with her rabbitt (feeding her the strawberry tops)
me :happytv: Grey's Anatomy

Boring with a capital B

The Indians are on now too . . . playing in Oakland tonight. Last time I looked 0-0.

Can you imagine telling your college friends....what you are doing....sitting at home on Friday night talking to a bunch of people you don't know but are going on vacation with in about a year.....NO ONE WOULD BELIEVE YOU!!

Wouldn't that be the life!

I would like it for awhile, but think I could not sit still long enough. Unless I am reading or on the computer, I always think I need to be doing something.

I guess he deserves the break, but I told him he should try to work some, or do some type of internship before Med school.

I can't just sleep in either. DH always wants to have a morning of sleeping in, and I can't do it!

What college friends?:confused3

Amy loves to sleep in too. She loves to take naps. Drives me cuckoo some times. In the back of my mind is always the feeling that I have only so many minutes on planet Earth, and I don't want to spend the majority of them sleeping. I felt differently when I was younger, now I feel the sand is running out of the glass too quickly.

I should explain about college . . .

I went to what was then mostly a commuter school. I drove to school daily, and worked daily. Not much time for friends. It is a part of my life I regret some times. I got a great education but almost zero college experience. I did the same thing for law school, at the same school.

Unfortunately, I did not have much choice. I had to work my way through school if I wanted to get a degree.

So, when you graduate Holly, what kind of law do you want to practice?

What does the firm do where you are working now?

If I had not taken my present course, I think I would have wanted to be a litigator. I always wanted to be a Clarence Darrow. Don't think I want to start that kind of a career now though . . .
I have absolutely no idea what type of law I want to practice. I suppose once I take more elective classes and get a taste of it all, I'll know a bit more.

The firm where I work now does a wide variety of law. There are 8 attorneys. Two do workers comp, which sort of interests me because it's so different from litigation (I fill in for their secretary sometimes when she's off). One does intellectual property (he's one of the guys I work for). One does family law and criminal law. One does entertainment law. One represents our city bus system and city library. The senior partner does income tax law (I primarily work for him). And the newest attorney does bits and pieces for all the others. 5 of the 8 graduated from the law school I'm attending and most of them are friends with many of my professors, so it's great for networking, but I won't have much of a future there because they're known around town to be very chauvinistic.

I was also the oldest in my family, and the first to go to college . . . I had no one to mentor me, or be a role model for what I was doing.

At the time to me it was normal - only now do I know what I missed.

Of course, that is why I can now retire from this job with 30 years too . . .

Today was VA Tech Graduation....I thought about going. The school gave degrees to each of the students who lost their lives. They also had VA Tech class rings made up for each family.

Do they do WC defense, or are they P's attorneys?

I don't know what WC is like in Mich, but in OH, I consider WC P's attorneys for the most part to be low life forms, slightly above protozoans.

The Chauvanism is BS. Some attorneys that I know and have great respect for are women, and I can tell you one of them at least I would NOT want to tangle with in any situation. As a dad of a daughter now, I feel stronger than I ever did about those issues.

Same thing for me John. In undergrad, I worked a couple of jobs because I was putting myself through college. No time for anything else.

Hey, I got #16161!

Wooooohoooo!

(I must be getting tired)

Again, same with me! Well, almost. I wasn't the oldest, but was the only (except steps, but they didn't go to college). Neither of my parents when to college and my stepmom dropped out of school after 8th grade. :sad2:

My mom immigrated from Greece, and never went further than 6th grade, but DRILLED the importance of education into each of us. My brother and sister both finished college and are teachers.

Dad was an autoworker, who did not get his HS diploma because of WWII, Ohio passed a law a few years ago that let school boards give vets diplomas, and he finally got his - he was very proud.

We have a lot in common- I'm also the oldest and also worked my way through school.

Holly- I find that sometimes it is hard being a female attorney. You would think in this day and age it wouldn't matter, but sometimes it does. I worked for awhile in maritime law, which is a lot like a "good ole boys" club. It was just too hard breaking into it as a young woman.

They do WC defense. :thumbsup2

The attorneys where I work make it very clear that they would never hire a woman attorney. In fact, I've personally heard one of the partners telling his secretary that. He said, "I won't hire a female attorney because they're too temperamental". I know....not a smart thing for him to let people hear him say! :scared1: The same attitude is made very clear in how they treat men and women law clerks. BIG difference. They entrust the male law clerks with more substantial work (research, drafting pleadings, etc.) and the female law clerks aren't given much more than secretarial work. Very sad. :sad2: I'm only there until I find another place willing to work with my schedule like they do. Plus they pay me more than any other place in the area is offering. :thumbsup2

I can imagine that maritime law would be really tough, and be a real good ole boy's club. I had a friend in Law School who moved to VA to practice maratime law . . . haven't heard from him in ages.

Society is changing, and that change is mostly positive, but it is still too slow. When most of our families these days have two working spouses, it is ridicoulous that this still happens.

I often worry about what it will be like for me when I graduate and pass the bar. Especially seeing how few women there are in my classes. But I'm such a strongwilled person....that should help me. :thumbsup2
