I noticed on the first page that there is an address so you can ship things to your cruise ship. What do you ship to yourself?

I also wanted to say that I have been thinking about people breaking into our house while we are gone too. We have never taken a 2 week vacation before. And I have a count down on my myspace page. I guess that's a bad idea!

I plan on shipping our pirate costumes, over the door holder, DIS gifts, fish extender, door signs, laundry soap,my disneyland plastic coffee mug, fold up hamper, picture mats, photo mailers, and the list keeps getting added to all the time. Since I have not read here on the DIS that many people if anyone has not received their box I need to ship what I can since we are flying in and I don't want to go over my luggage weight limit. (We are also new to flying)

We will let our neighbor know and I have a friend coming by to take care of our cat. We have never done a 2 week before as well. We live in a pretty quiet gated community and our neighbors are great. So I'm not to worried.

It must be great to be able to ship items down, and you look to be making use of that service!!!!!

Coming from the UK we have to squeeze everything, including formal gear, in our suitcases. Sometimes this is only 20kgs each!! I think we will have a little more though as we will probably fly one level upgrade which will help.

We will be away for almost 4 weeks, so we will have someone check on the house and have neighbours informed. However I do believe we should be careful who we let know or allow to hear our talking about when we will be away.

Speaking of which my other crusise thread got slammed and closed by some creaps for their bad language. I hope that we (the keepers of the lists) keep a good list of who we are so that if that ever (& I hope never) happens that we can reach out to everyone to reconnect. Thanks listy friends :goodvibes

Nan-Noel is the keeper of the master list and it's in safe hands!!! So no worries there. But I doubt we'll ever get shut down...we're very well behaved here!!!

We are going to Brennan's Jazz Kitchen in Downtown Disney for Mother's day! We have wanted to try this restaurant for a while, I have been to the Brennan's in Houston, but not in New Orleans or California.

We are also having dinner at Napa Rose on Wednesday night and are enjoying a winemaker dinner, as part of the food and wine festival, at Steakhouse 55 (former Grandville's) at Disneyland Hotel. We will probably try the Golden Vine as well in Cal Adventure.

Brennan's is outstanding. DH held his 20 year high school reunion there! (He was ASB president his senior year and since the senior class president turned out to be a flake, he ended up handling both the 10 year and 20 year reunions...lot of work!) We've eaten there a few times...great food and I've been to the Brennan's in NOLA (new orleans, LA) which is outstanding and such a fun environment!! You'll also enjoy Napa Rose and the Golden Vine!

How fun for you!!!!

I don't know what the weight limit is but we flew to Las Vegas a month ago and I had the biggest suitcase filled with clothes and all my shampoo and stuff and then I put in 3 bottles of champagne, a big bottle Seagrams and a 2 ltr of 7-up. That suitcase was so heavy, I could barely roll it!!!

But I wasn't even thinking of taking most of that stuff so I guess I need to research a little more.

50 lbs and now most airlines charge $25 for 51-75lbs and $50 for 76-100 lbs.

I was actually picturing more of deep fried pickle slices. I have them in North Carolina and they were awesome. Maybe they aren't known as pickle chips everywhere when they are that style.

How about these?

2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon vinegar-based hot pepper sauce
3/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup cornmeal
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (32 ounce) jar dill pickle slices
1 cup vegetable oil for deep frying
salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of the flour, buttermilk, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, seasoning salt and garlic powder.
In a separate mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, 2 cups flour, salt and 3/4 teaspoon black pepper.
Preheat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 365 degrees F (180 degrees C).
Dip drained pickles into milk mixture and then dredge them in the flour mixture. Deep fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Salt and pepper to taste

I was thinking perhaps I need (ya hear that need) to zip down for the day and see you all. Noel, how long are you going for?

I am flying down on the 7:15AM SWA flight from SJC on Sunday May 20 and flying back on the 7:10PM flight on Tuesday the 22. I have to be in San Diego on Friday May 25 to get ready for Sam's graduation or I would stay longer.

There are only 65 pages tol catch up on but I am skim reading!!!
Although all of us are sad at my house...Annie DD13 is having a very difficult time. She is the most shy, thoughtful and introspective (sp?) child we have. She is organized, hard working and quiet. She has been crying a lot.

Last night, we were waiting for Gretchen while she was dancing. (John's favorite activity) Annie and I were trying to think of something she could do, to help. I told her that prayers were great and actions for something like this don't have to be directly related to VA Tech.

We talked about lots of different thing she could do. So she decided to get her hair cut for Locks of Love. We went to the Hair place and made an appointment for 9am.....she had 15 inches (it was pretty much to her waist) cut off! She is a strawberry blonde....so cute.

I am so very proud of her and it has (at least for now) made her really smile as you can see below.

Thanks to everyone again for letting me go on and on....I keep thinking I will just go back to being myself....but now I think that will never happen...I have been forever changed.....

Your daughter is beautiful inside and out!!!

Here are my pride and joy (can you tell I just downloaded my camera?!), from a few weeks ago....

Lovely children.

Thanks everyone...I have decided to just...let it be...for now. I'm going to the ocean this weekend and it will help, then next weekend is mother's day and we're all going out to dinner. I don't want her mad at me and fighting. So for now, we'll leave it alone and then try to persuade her slowly and gently after that. It'll give her some time to be on her own for a while, which is what she wants. I can't push too hard because I don't want to fight with her. I don't want my last memory with her to be an argument. Hopefully, it will improve over time.:thumbsup2

I can certainly understand that this is a difficult time for you. Hopefully, you will be able to persuade her as none of us including my Dad were ever able to make my Mother do ANYTHING she did not want to do. My Dad was always so much easier and more reasonable to deal with even in his last days.

Hello everyone. Just back from our 2 week's holiday in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. Far too many pages to read before I post this hello, but I will have to browse through them.

Missed all the chat - can you imagine what it will be like this time next year? :yay: :dance3: :cheer2:

Welcome back!! We have missed you!!

The young man in the Pirate hat is our friends son! He also does modeling for Mervyn's.

How cool! My 5 yr old niece does that for Meijer stores (for their clothing and toy departments) and for some other place too, but I can't remember where. Oops.....most of you don't have Meijer stores where you live! It's a large grocery store chain that doesn't just sell groceries, but sells everything under the sun that you could ever need. Their motto is something like "The one stop shopping spot" and it's true! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: Well, 2 of the girls definitely coming are EXTREME girly girls, so they'll just have to deal with it for an afternoon. :thumbsup2

Well, you will just have to add pink stuff to the camo decorations for the girls like in girly camo outfits!!

...Yes we are cake freaks. My sister and I usually spend the night before the party decorating. (I bake them a few days before that and freeze them)

Unfortunately, I don't cook or bake, so Tyler's cakes come from a local bakery. They do an awesome job, so we're happy! Last year, for his 4th b-day party, he told me he wanted exactly the same cake he had for the previous b-day! Yup, we had a firefighter party 2 yrs in a row. So I took a picture of the previous cake to the bakery and asked them if they could reproduce it. The result was perfect! It had a car crash scene at an intersection (the roads were airbrushed on) with rescue vehicles on scene (police, ambulance, fire truck, helicopter). Very cool!

My daughter loves camo, so do her friends, it must be a some do and some don't thing. You might just be suprised those little girls can get into the dirt too! When is Tyler's bday?

His birthday is 5/29, but the party is 5/20. We always have to do it the week before because the weekend before is always Memorial Day weekend, when so many people are out of town camping. The weekend after is my sister and her husband's birthday, so it would interfere with their get-together.

oh ya, almost forgot, Wil is doing great. We went to the SF Zoo today, it was a great field trip. I was a softy and let him drive up with us (Paul drove I had a migrane, again) then Wil & I joined his classmate and had a great day.

Great! :goodvibes
Enjoy the celebration at school!
