Because it has absolutely no relationship to reality - Amy has no interest, and my guess is she would just think it is "weird". On one of our early dates we went to see the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton - I was enthralled. She went to the bathroom after about 20 minutes and never came back! I never went to the lobby to check on her because I did not want to miss any of the movie, and that about says it all about our tastes in entertainment. I found her in the lobby after the movie - she hated it!

I have to agree with Amy on that movie! Darrell saw it in the theater 3 times - twice by himself. I preferred Val Kilmer until Christian Bale - now he is definitely Batman!

Darrell loved X-files - but only when it was about the whole mythology so I'm surprised he hasn't liked Heroes more but I think he thought it was going to be like Lost. And while I still watch Lost he gave up midway through season 2. I think Heroes is almost the opposite of Lost - sometimes they give me so much info in one episode I feel on overload. Whereas Lost dribble out the info in crumbs and for everything you learn they give you 3 more questions.

DS went to a boot camp birthday party a couple years ago, complete with a real Marine. Anyhow, they lined up on the little yellow feet in formation, marched here and there, worked through a MUDDY obstacle course (very easy and kid oriented...not like the real ones), and told stories by a campfire (ok, not sure that's really boot camp like...but, it was fun!). Part of their goody bag was a dog tag with their name etched on it. Girls went, too, but they were not really GIRLYgirls.

I'd have fun helping with this party! Don't go too nuts shopping for supplies.

Carolyn
That sounds really fun! We're going to keep it simple this year. Basically just pizza (delivered), cake, pinata, and the kids can play in the back yard. Tyler has a decent wooden playset that he got as a birthday gift from my mom last year (after his party so it wasn't here for kids to play on), so he's anxious to have all his friends play on it.

Just popping in and catching up before LOST starts!

I watched the first few episodes of Heroes (loved it) but decided I was 'over committed' to television and stopped. Now I've caught bits and pieces but am not up to date on the situation. I did catch a good chunk of Monday's episode and LOVED the premise. I'm definately putting this show on my rent the season DVD list. BTW, this show is our BIG money maker! :thumbsup2

"Death by Black Hole" - Non-fiction series of science articles.

Oh, I'm betting my brother-in-law would like this! ::yes::

OK, time to pour the root beer and pop the corn!

Finally - another Heroes fan! I don't think I could pay Amy to watch Heroes, and not appropriate for Sophia, so I have to watch when I have the TV all to myself.

A Heros watcher from the beginning. Loved the twist this week. How Slyar took on Nathan's identity? He must have stolen from the shape shifter's power, but is Nathan gone or capitve? Hmm....

Alright gang, just want to review with you again who's coming to Storyteller's on 5/20 at 5pm (we have a HUGE group now :thumbsup2 )

Maybe we'll "leave" a little "something" at stroytellers to remember us by...:wizard:

That is just fabulous!! My parents both retired with great pensions, health insurance and were able to enjoy retirement without a health or financial care in the world. That is what I call REAL retirement!!
:surfweb:

Mine too, something to be said for retiring from government jobs!

DH and I will be a different story, however...

Karen

Oh, how fun!
We travelled for a year and a half about 14 years ago. The kids were in 4th and 2nd grade and I homeschooled them through 6th and 4th. We started here in Washington, made our way down south with a stop at Disneyland (of course) and toured much of Arizona and New Mexico. My grandparents owned an RV park in Elk City Oklahoma and wanted some help running it for a while so were spent a few months there. Then we toured through Kansas ( I was born in Wichita) and ended up spending about 6 months in Branson. DH worked at Silver Dollar City. From there we headed down to Florida where we met up with my parents and sister and caravaned all around Florida. Of course we ended up in Orlando. We spent 3 1/2 weeks at the Fort Wilderness campground and then just outside in Kissimee. DH worked at the Magic Kingdom for about 4 months. The kids were getting tired of not having any friends and I was a bit homesick, so we headed back to Washington.
All DH and I have been able to think about since is our retirement and living that wonderful life again. We will do it...soon than later I hope.

What a great experience for you and your family! That is our goal, just go see what we have not seen.

I was actually picturing more of deep fried pickle slices. I have them in North Carolina and they were awesome. Maybe they aren't known as pickle chips everywhere when they are that style.

OH! We had deep fried pickles in Georgia last year. They were yummy! :thumbsup2

Holly, I got my Pottery Barn Kids catalog today and I thought of you and Tyler.

The front of the catalog is a Pirate Birthday party!!

The young man in the Pirate hat is our friends son! He also does modeling for Mervyn's.

This is all very wise advice . . .

However, stupid me 6 years ago when I got on the DIS and chose a username just used my first initial and last name. Kind of dumb by today's standards, but I really had no idea how hooked I would become to this site, and now just do not want to give up my unsername and the "history" that goes with it.

I'm smarter now and the advice above is good to follow. Although at the same time that anonymity also reduces trust - as you don't know who you really may be communicating with. So for good or ill, I am out there as I am. It was only a year or two ago I took my hometown out of my sig, and just put the general area - I was afraid if anyone knew we were on vacation our house would be broken into!

yes, I hear ya, not a great screen name for me either....:confused3 I can't be bothered to get creative when it comes to techno stuff.

Also, I'm sure I've way over posted about my kids, but here's my take. You are my friends and I share with my friends. Yes there are creeps in the world, but they will not make me change how I love to comminicate with my friends.

Speaking of which my other crusise thread got slammed and closed by some creaps for their bad language. I hope that we (the keepers of the lists) keep a good list of who we are so that if that ever (& I hope never) happens that we can reach out to everyone to reconnect. Thanks listy friends :goodvibes

We did a camo cake one year! (And a football cake one year, and a spiderman cake, and a princess cake, and an Elmo cake, and...well, you get the picture!) Camo's fun and easy...buy grease paint and paint the guys' faces up!

Carolyn

Our cakes have been: Madeline, ladybug, Muffy Vanderbear, Angelina Ballerina, Raggedy Ann, Elvis, Spiderman, Ferrari Race Car, Castle, Scooby Doo.

Yes we are cake freaks. My sister and I usually spend the night before the party decorating. (I bake them a few days before that and freeze them)

Cool! I just feel bad for any little girls coming. Not a fun theme for them.

My daughter loves camo, so do her friends, it must be a some do and some don't thing. You might just be suprised those little girls can get into the dirt too! When is Tyler's bday?

Karen, when are you going? I'll be there May 25-27th sun-tues.

I was thinking perhaps I need (ya hear that need) to zip down for the day and see you all. Noel, how long are you going for?

I'm going to be buried under work the next few days and then Girl Scout camping for the weekend. I'll lurk, but doubt I can post much....thinking about you guys

oh ya, almost forgot, Wil is doing great. We went to the SF Zoo today, it was a great field trip. I was a softy and let him drive up with us (Paul drove I had a migrane, again) then Wil & I joined his classmate and had a great day.

Tomorrow is our school Cinco de Mayo (yes in on the 3rd) celebration. Since we are a dual immerision school and about 90% hispanic population it is a big celebration. I love it, The kids in each class dance in costume. It's fun. I'll have pictures I'm sure....here's last years & good night.

Well, that's going to be a hard reputation to live up to . . . I'll do my best - just keep feeding me material . . .

Anyway . . .

I had a rough day at work too, so I totally sympathize. Humor and friends on the DIS are my escape (just like the tag the tag fairy gave me). I think some if not most of you are aware I work in HR - and labor relations. Both can be extreme challenges on some days, and this has not only been one of those days, but one of those weeks.

It's been an interesting week, so far, for DH, DD and I as well. And most people that I have spoken to have had an "odd" week as well! Very strange, hope we aren't "due" for something strange happening...

Karen

One of my favorite things to do is mow the lawn . . . (just give me my ipod and my John Deere) but I think you are a bit too far away for me to ride my John Deere up there.

Didn't they make a movie about that awhile back...An old coot who rode his lawnmower to go visit someone????:rotfl2:

Loved it!! Love it still!!

We have a few too many shows, so didn't start Heroes, even though when I read the synopsis in the beginning of the season, I knew that it would be a great show...

Oh well, maybe netflix the season during the summer!

Karen

Love Christian Bale as the new Batman!!! Can't wait for the next one!! They are filming it right now!!!

I have thought about this as well; I am usually over cautious about anything on the internet, but I also feel that this is an exceptional group of people, and I have a very good feeling about this group and have not been worried.

Again, not too worried about this group...

Karen, when are you going? I'll be there May 25-27th sun-tues.

We are there next Wednesday, May 9th to Mother's Day, May 13th!!! CAN'T WAIT!!! Our shop opening weekend is the 20th, so no quick trips back to DL for us!

We love Cinco de Mayo as well. DD asked DH to make his Halibut Ceviche (so yummy) and his fabulous fajitas for Saturday night. I will be working the shop till 7:30, but I'll make up for lost time that night!!

Karen

WOW! A Busy chat night tonight!

I had hesitency about posting here on the DIS, as seen by the fact that until I joined this thread, I only had 10 posts or so and have been a member since 2003 or something like that. I really do feel "safe" here, but did take out my exact location after reading some of the posts. It is sad that in our world now we need to have these concerns. I find it frustrating. :sad2:

Health Insurance....In 1992, Hillary Clinton came to my medical school with great ideas and goals for the health care world. Unfortunately, none of them occurred. When we move away from a health care society focused on treating "dis-ease" rather than maintaining health, we will find a solution for our crisis. Until then, the problems will continue to increase. Insurance companies are businesses and are in this to make money. OK, I can keep going on this subject but I will step off the soapbox now. Sorry......

LOST was a good one tonight!!!!!! :lmao: DH just asked me if I made sure our WDW plans next week allowed for a free Wed night so we could watch LOST!:happytv: Thank goodness ABC lets you watch the shows for free on line the next day!

Off to finish packing.....we leave for the airport tomorrow night, after a day of dance pictures, DD1's piano recital and a spray tan:cool1: WDW, here we come!

V....the weather is saying scattered T-storms through the weekend...is that meaning those typical 4pm rain showers that Florida gets in the summer or is the weather really not that great for the weekend?

I agree about this group...I just can't believe that I have to wait over 300 days to meet everyone:sad2: I can only imagine what that first meeting will look like....a reunion of old friends of sorts!

We are spending mother's day at WDW....I am so excited:woohoo: Having brunch at Boma after hearing people's great reports of it! Are you doing anything special at DL for mother's day Karen?

Good luck on the Grand Opening! You must be getting so excited (and nervous).
