So the Limo will pick us up in a few hours!!

I just can't drink to much because I have to get up at 3am to make the Med excursions!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Lisa

Have a great time! It sounds fabulous:woohoo: Of course you could just keep drinking and still be awake at 3am:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Might wind up booking the wrong excursions though:rotfl2:

Is this the same friend who was thinking of coming on the cruise with you, but decided no....not now?
Yup, Shelly's the one. When I told her and her husband about me and my friend Cindy going on this cruise, her husband told me to take her with us because she really needs a break. But she just can't afford it. Even if I helped her out with the cost, she can't afford to miss that much work. :sad1: Maybe some other time, another cruise.

We are off to a quinceanera party this evening! This will be my first one and we are all looking forward to it. We have heard so much about them. It is for our friends' daughter, Perla, who has just turned 15. Julie...if you are out there, you probably know a lot about these! My understanding is that in Mexico they have more of a "sweet 15" rather than a sweet 16, but it is pretty fancy. Her mom is an amazing cook, so I will probably roll out of there, not to mention the fact that she told me each table gets its' own bottle of Patron Silver!!! Thankfully, I am the driver tonight so I won't be making a fool of myself. :lmao:

Have a great time! I've heard lots about these too and they sound so much fun! :thumbsup2

Jackie & I are both Boomers as well. And I just love that someone posted the Chatty Kathy doll. I remember her, didn't have one - I was much more into my horse statutes! Hope everyone is having a great day.

Thanks Birkner for sharing your stories, although I've never posted about them, I so enjoy them!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the compliments. I did post the Chatty Cathy doll picture. My sister use to collect the Breyer horses.

I remember you telling us about him and I thought he sounded like a really nice guy, trying figure out how to let his wife come with you.

I am sorry they can't work things out...didn't you say they had several children?

We have arrived at Landsdowne......checking the computer to make sure it works and I can make reservations tonight!! (tomorrow morning)

Not trying to take your place at all Noel, but just in case someone else was wondering like me . . .

Sounds like everyone has great plans for a nice weekend. Sophia is going to a BD party at an indoor inflatible place (need to leave soon to take her) then we have a BD party for two of her Godparent's children. We bought the pre-teen girl a pink iPod shuffle . . . her parents are not very geeky, so I am hoping they have not even thought of getting her an ipod.

Not at all John. These parties are pretty common here in California and I have posted about them before as both my DD's have attended elaborate quinceanera celebrations.

Sounds like you have a busy afternoon with Sophia and crew. All my GK's have Ipods so I think you have picked the perfect birthday gift.

As to the quincerneara celebration, the Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central and South American traditions, the custom can be referred to as a Quince (XV) Años, a Quinces, a Quinceanera, a Quinceanero or a Fiesta Rosa. The celebration traditionally begins with a religious ceremony. A reception is held in the home or a banquet hall. The festivities include food and music, and in most, a choreographed waltz or dance performed by the Quinceanera and her court.

The Quinceanera's court can be comprised of young girls (called a Dama), young men (called Chambelán or Escorte or Galán) or a combination of both - traditionally up to 14 persons in the court, which with the Quinceanera, would total 15 young people.

The Quinceanera traditionally wears a ball gown, with her court usually dressed in gowns and tuxedos. Guests usually receive small tokens, cápias and cerámicas, to commemorate the celebration.

It is customary for the Quinceanera to receive the following gifts for her ceremony:

tiara
bracelet or ring
earrings
cross or medal or necklace
Bible or Prayer Book and Rosary
Other accessories for this special occasion might be:

flower bouquet
cake decoration
engraved cake server set
engraved champagne glasses
Quinceanera doll
scepter
guest registry book
remembrance photo album
invitations/reception cards
kneeling pillow
There are many traditions throughout the celebration. At the church ceremony, an XV pillow specially decorated with the Quinceanera's name, is placed in position for the young girl to kneel on during the ceremony. Smaller decorated pillows are also used for the presentation of the Quinceanera's gifts. At the reception, there is always the toast to the Quinceanera, known as the brindis. With specially decorated champagne glasses for the Quinceanera, the guests are invited to offer their congratulations and best wishes. The Quinceanera Doll, symbolizing the perfection of the event and the Quinceanera, is used as both a decoration and a keepsake. In some customs, the cápias (printed ribbons with the Quinceanera's name and date) are pinned to the doll, and the Quinceanera circulates among her guests, thanking them for their presence and presenting them with a memento taken from the doll.

The Quince Años is a glorious celebration that remains a cherished and honored tradition.

That's them! I collected them for years and years. I was in my twenties before I gave them to a family of girls (under priviledged) who loved horses - I knew they went to good use! Thanks for the memories!!! That just tickled me pink.:cloud9:

Thanks for the info. I love hearing about all these traditions, and I had a feeling it was something much more common in communities with a large Hispanic population. We have just a small Hispanic community here, which is growing slowly.

Lisa, what an exciting weekend! Glad you have lots of excitement to look forward to, you deserve it :goodvibes I can hardly wait to hear what you were able to book, and all about the 25th anniversay party.
DH is 1957! Big B-day this year! Any suggestions on something cool to do?

Karen
Looks like there's a few of us celebrating 50 this year! Mine is a few days after your DH and before Lisa's, on Aug 31 :)

I decided that for my 50th, last November, I wanted to go to NYC and see a broadway show and eat dinner at Tavern on the Green in Central Park and stay overnight at a nice hotel. I haven't had the chance to do it yet, with mom and her hospital stays starting just before my birthday. But I do intend to get there and my best friend, Cindy, and her husband said they'll join us. Cindy turns 50 this August. Maybe we'll go then and celebrate both of us.

For Ted, you should find the thing that he loves the most, besides Mickey and wine, and make a special weekend out of it. Maybe invite his best friend too. A special museum, a concert, riding horses, etc., make it an experience.

I didn't want a big party. I'm not 16 anymore. I just want quality time with those I love the most by choice.
I hope you get to do your special birthday wish someday soon:goodvibes This cruise is my 50th birthday present to myself, August is hurricane season, and I sure wasn't going to pick that month for my 1st cruise :scared1:

Please post pictures of Sara and her wedding. We LOVE to see them. What a special moment for you...trying on her wedding dress together. The countdown is on, it won't be long now and you'll be there, crying and laughing and dancing. Hope it's everything you imagined it to be and more!
Thanks:cloud9: I know it will be. I can hardly wait, but it will be bittersweet too, I know Sara is thinking a lot about her dad, as we all are, and she will miss him alot that day.

Yikes :headache: I hated that doll  My grandfather called me "chatty Kathe" after her, and everyone thought it was so funny and fitting that it stuck for a long time. I am not telling my kids anything about her :rolleyes1
Kathe :rotfl:

Yes, they have 3 kids (10, 7, and almost 2). Without going into details, it's much better for them to get divorced because he's abusive and doesn't keep a job for more than a month or 2 at a time. The kids are relieved that he's gone (at least the older two.....the littlest one doesn't know any better). It's a sad situation, but she's doing what she feels is best for the kids. She knows it will be hard alone with 3 kids, but she's basically always taken care of everything herself anyway.

Have fun making your reservations tonight! :thumbsup2

Sounds like lots of fun for your family this weekend! :goodvibes Is the inflatible place called Crazy Bounce by chance? If so, we went to one a couple of months ago and had an absolute blast! It's stuff even the adults get to play on too.....SUPER fun! Trying to plan a time to go again soon because the closest one is almost 2 hours from us.
