Tell Annie, she looks beautiul.;)

QUOTE: Thanks to everyone again for letting me go on and on....I keep thinking I will just go back to being myself....but now I think that will never happen...I have been forever changed...

Lisa, thanks for sharing all your thoughts and feelings, it helps us too! You will go back to being yourself, but it'll be a different self because you're changed forever. You'll be even better!:thumbsup2

Wow! What a weather report! Supposed to be in the 70s today and Sunday! I'll definitely make sure Tyler and I are outside almost the whole time (after I pick him up from his dad's today) because starting Monday, it's supposed to be rainy and cooler until the following Monday. We'll enjoy it while we can! :cool1:

We watched it last night! And, it WAS very strange and NOT what we were expecting, either. Not sure what I was expecting, but watching it I felt like the producers wanted to make several points, so they slammed the morals into our heads: GUNS ARE BAD! U.S. IMMIGRATION POLICIES DON'T WORK! PEOPLE ARE JUST PEOPLE, WHATEVER LANGUAGE THEY SPEAK!

It ended and we looked at each other and said, "Okaayyyyy."

yes I agree, what about the Japanese Girl and her father, what did we learn there? That they are weirdos?

On another note, we have a Daisy scout, but her troop is lame, so I don't think she counts for your bridging. (I'm guessing bridging in Girl Scouts is like bridging in Cub Scouts?)

Carolyn

Okay, good I'm starting my plan with your little Daisy (I'm glad to start there....)bridging info below

Not sure if I can help or not. My daughters are not coming, but both are girl scouts.....Annie is a Cadette.....I am a girl scout as well.....(well at least I pay my dues!)

Oh yes, you can I am hoping for moms too, that will make it all the more special for Miss Molly. Going to start a new post to show you what I want to do for her on the cruise
I am going to post a could of graphics that I love.......I hope you guys don't mind.

thanks for the graphic, I cried. I'm sure you've been hearing alot from around the world, but to share another. My alma mater, SJSU has had memorial services everynight in the chapel. I feel like our campuses are so similar from what I hear. Lots of places in and out of campus and placed in the middle of the town/city. A large commuter campus, with a strong on campus spirit. Long deep roots. I could so see how this could have happen on my old campus and my heart was breaking everytime I pictured what you must have been going thru. It is the right thing to give the students to room to do what they need this year to finish or be done. I understand how some will not be able to go back on campus for a while or ever. thanks for us for also sharing our grief with you and you understanding it.

Nanette...(don't know how to pull your quote from inside my quote)

I think the point with the Japanese girl and her father is, again, GUNS ARE BAD! (He was a hunter, Mom shot herself, his gun caused all the drama in Morocco), but even more so that she was hurting so much from her mother's death and hadn't grieved WITH him. (But, grieving naked at night on a balcony in a city was a little out there! I was pleased that the cutie cop didn't give in to her, though. I was all prepared to be disgusted.

During our cruise Molly will be missing an important event in her girl scouting life that we have been planning on doing since she was in kindergarden(she will be in 5th grade at time of cruise)

Every year there is a group of Juniors that bridge to Cadette over the

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

up to 5000 girls every year make this journey and next year was to be her (me too, as their troop leader) turn. I'm a bit bummed to say the least that I will be missing my troop and Molly will miss this special day and event, so I'm thinking that I want to create a special ceremony for her to bridge while we are crossing the Panama Canal. I can and will come up with something simple and special for her and would love to have other scouts join us in ceremony this day. I'm open to ideas and will hope to try to reach someone at DCL to see if I can reach any girl scouts that might be crew members too. I'm just planning on wearing my pin (& will pack Molly's old and new vest in secret) so that she will get to have her new vest as part of the ceremony of bridging. If any other scouts could also pack and wear there pins for the ceremony it would be great!:goodvibes

So, that's my plan who's in with me??? :dance3:

you use the quick quote button and then type in between the lines....

ah yes, guns are bad, I got that part, but naked on the balcony had me going to a whole other place.

Carolyn

you have to also post outside of the quote or it won't post....that my friend is about as techno as I can get :lmao:

Count me in...sounds fun.....with 2 girl scouts we have bridged now 5 times total, I think

I meant to quote your highlighted quote captured within your quoting of my quote...(Who's on first?)

The whole nekkid part did feel a little (!!) incestuous, I'll admit.

I think I'll prefer watching Pirates (the first one) for the kids' FIRST time this afternoon.

As for bridging, I don't think my Daisy would get much out of the ceremony. They don't do ANY scout-y type things with her troop. They're not even doing the petals on the flower thing! It sounds like a lovely ceremony, but WAY cooler crossing a CONTINENT than San Francisco Bay. Have fun planning!

DH just finished selling his video camera on ebay (so he can buy a new one, of course ;) ). He got a better price than he thought he would and all went well, BUT the numerous emails he received was annoying. Most were just questions about the camera, but several were scams that were very hard to catch. He had to really be paying attention before he clicked on links, etc. He reported the obvious scammers to ebay, but just got a canned response back. We have bought and sold on ebay in the past, but things have really changed recently. I don't know how ebay can keep up with all the hackers and scammers out there.

Lori-I thought I'd share since you live in Ames, I saw an online article (from my yahoo page) that picked Ames as one of the best 9 citites to retire young in. The criteria was affordability and also being able to live an active lifestyle. I didn't read the full article and I emailed it to myself but something happened and I didn't get the article so I can't share in full what it said, but what I glance at looked very interesting, retiring or not!!!

Haven't seen Babel, haven't really been interested in seeing it either. But last night we saw "Lady in the Water", the latest from M. Night Shyamalan. It was really good and also very different from what we expected. Not sure if it really would be good for kids to see, even though it is supposed to be a "bedtime" story, but it really was excellent.

I would definitely see it again!

Karen

I agree! :thumbsup2 I bumped that finger a couple times in my sleep and sat straight up, wanting to scream. But I'm thinking that because the antibiotic dose is so strong, improvement will be pretty quick. At least I hope!

Holly,

If it isn't better by say, Tuesday, I wouldn't wait till the following Monday. Just to be safe, you may want to have it checked again.

Being a mom....

Karen

We are still greiving......I am having a very hard time doing anything (that is why I am glad Don is mowing!)

Anyone interested, may like to look at the Tech website....
www.vt.edu

The kids all get e-mails on Thursday that they can leave and they will get the grades they have as of now. They can go home and finish online.....or they can start up classes on Monday and finish the year. How terrible for the graduating seniors to end out like this....

Several of Daniel's friends have closed the book on this year and come home....lots of parents traveling to Blacksburg to gather up stuff and start summer a little early....

I guess I have talked to about 200 people that have a child at Tech...going to Tech...thinking about going to Tech etc....only one is quitting for good. It will be very curiuos to see what the fallout will be.

I am going to post a could of graphics that I love.......I hope you guys don't mind.

It's Ok to still be grieving... it hasn't been that long. Do things that bring you joy in the next few days. Crafts, reading, movies, bowling... Allow yourself to be light and not do "heavy" things. Enjoy time with the kids. Don't be hard on yourself.

DIS when you need us...

Sending more :grouphug:

Although all of us are sad at my house...Annie DD13 is having a very difficult time. She is the most shy, thoughtful and introspective (sp?) child we have. She is organized, hard working and quiet. She has been crying a lot.

Last night, we were waiting for Gretchen while she was dancing. (John's favorite activity) Annie and I were trying to think of something she could do, to help. I told her that prayers were great and actions for something like this don't have to be directly related to VA Tech.

We talked about lots of different thing she could do. So she decided to get her hair cut for Locks of Love. We went to the Hair place and made an appointment for 9am.....she had 15 inches (it was pretty much to her waist) cut off! She is a strawberry blonde....so cute.

I am so very proud of her and it has (at least for now) made her really smile as you can see below.

Thanks to everyone again for letting me go on and on....I keep thinking I will just go back to being myself....but now I think that will never happen...I have been forever changed.....

Love her hair cut!! So cute. Our DD wanted to do the same, but her hair was not long enough. She is going to try and grow it long enough to get it cut in the fall.

No one should feel that their lives will be the same after something like this. Even those of us who are not as close as you are to what is going on feel sadness that has not gone away.

It is important, however, to find as much peace as you can with your faith and the knowledge that these "kids" are at peace and in a good place. There will never be a way to understand or make sense out of madness.

Take care,

Karen

That is very cool! Very important for everyone to pull together at this time.

Thanks for sharing!

All alone again...

Digga, dang, digga, dang:rolleyes1

Haven't had to say that in a while.

Oh well, back to laundry and other chores.

Shawn came home (finally) a few hours ago from the Panda benefit that was sponsored by a certain retailer.

Last time we saw him was yesterday morning when he left at 5am. It is amazing how much work goes into the fashion show portion of the benefit. Nonstop for 35 hours is more than I could do.

He did get to talk with "Aly & AJ" backstage for a good twenty minutes. Said they were very mature for their age and quite charming. He even had his photo taken with them to give to Jenna. Jenna is very jealous right now. She loves Aly & AJ! Shawn said they sang about three songs just sitting on stools playing guitars.

DrHug and I were both GS leaders. Yep, he was a card carrying Girl Scout for 5 years. :) I don't know if I could find our pins as it has been many years, but it would be fun to participate in a bridging ceremony again, if you want former GSs as well as current.
