John - your story of dance class was priceless.

When Chris was younger had a incident at soccer involving clothing and a child in tears. It was the beginning of the year and the uniforms were being handed out but they ran out of socks so Chris didn't get any and we were assured that they would have the proper colour socks by the time of the first game. They didn't have the right colour socks available by the time of the first game though so Chris was wearing his previous years socks which everyone had said was ok -- problem was nobody said anything to the referee who wouldn't let Chris play because his socks were the same colour as the opposing side's. The coach argued but couldn't convince the ref that they really didn't have the right colour socks. Chris was in tears and it took me weeks to get him to go back to soccer.

Totally understand Sophie being upset -- just wait for the teenage years though -- wouldn't go through them again if you paid me a million dollars!

Off to the airport in gloomy skies..everyone have a wonderful day and I will check in later!!

Well, tonight was no fun at all I can tell you . . .

What is it with you women and your outfits? When I took my son to baseball, no problem, he wore his uniform - old, new, or ratty. He would even go with me to eat after practice with it on (Sophia will NOT go anywhere with her dance clothes on).

Tonight starts out with Sophia not wanting to wear her ballet outfit - not comfy daddy! Wants to wear jeans - won't even wear shorts. After a bunch of arguing where she tells me she has done this before, I resign, and give up. Off to dance.

We get there, she is fine, puts on her ballet slippers, and goes to her room. I sit as far away from gossipy moms as I can, and prepare to get out my iPod to listen to the Time Traveler's Wife, but have to wait. They do a lot of classes here with disabled kids, and there is a class of Down's kids that goes into a classroom I am sitting outside. I have learned that if I turn on the iPod too soon, they will all come over to me and want to see it, and then not go into class, so I wait. (They do a super job with these kids here).

In two minutes, Sophia is out of the classroom, buries her head in my shoulder sobbing. What's the problem? Sub teacher who says she has to wear dance clothes if she wants to dance. Now, my little girl is the very sensitive type, that if anyone in authority (outside of her mom, dad, or grandma) corrects her, it sends her into a tizzy. She also abhors change. All the coaxing in the world will not get her into the outfit in her bag, and she wants to leave. Once again, I resign, and she RUNS out the door past her class to remain unseen escaping. I follow.

I call Amy and tell her this is the last episode of dance class from the black lagoon that I am attending, EVER! We are going to run an errand, and meet her for dinner (I got her voice mail). She calls me about 20 minutes later, and decides to call the dance studio . . . (Sophia wants to quit ballet over this).

Well, for the last 25 minutes, they have been searching for lost Sophia who was going out to change into her dance clothes and has disappeared. They did not realize I was there and we left (yeah, I see how you can miss the only 250lb male in the joint), and have frantically been trying to call home to see if they can find her. I did not think of saying we were leaving - and frankly did not want to discuss the matter right then with Miss Rachel, as my daughter ran out the door.

Long story short, this is NOW Amy's territory - I am done with dance!

I cannot even imagine what is going to take place once hormones start kicking in. God help me . . .

John, I am a skating lobby mom, and Steve is a skating lobby dad. Because neither of us have any talent of any kind on skates, all we can do is say, gee you looked so good!!! I love watching you!!! Anyway, I have been learning the in's and outs of the skating lobby lately. Apparently there are some parents who cause problems within the club and with the coaches. I learned this because one time, this lady was talking to me and one of the coaches came right out and sat next to us. Apparently, because I am a newbie, I am fair game. The coaches just wanted to make sure I was ok. Scary... Anyway, last week, there was this stack of an article from a skating magazine called "skating parents". How to be a good skating parent. Someone had outlined all the pertinent information in yellow highlighter. I laughed my head off!! Steve is just like you, he turns his ipod on and watches office episodes. He is just fine if you leave him alone. And just so you don't feel bad, one of the skating dads is a Fullbright winner in Economics doing a peace corp sabatical to africa next year. Another is a full professor in Statistics from Berkley, so you are in good company.

You know my DD is the same way as yours, it's why they like each other so much. I can see myself or Steve in exactly the same situation, ESPECIALLY with dance. With skating, we have to drag her off the ice so she can eat and do her homework, but Dance... same thing!

Your a good dad!!

Kim

Well . . . dance at the little dance place down the road now pales in comparison - how do you guys do it Kim????

I know WHY - because you love her so MUCH! - but as to the HOW, I would definitely be with Steve, except watching Battlestar Galactica . . .

I'll take the mindless chatter over the pressure filled omniscient parents and coaches any day!

(BTW- told Sophia - "do you think Savannah ever skates in jeans?") :)

Your a good dad!!

Kim

Definitely. I can't imagine John alone at the dance studio...quite frankly I'm not even interested in talking to the other moms ...they seem to always be focusing on "my daughter was chosen for the travel dance program", etc.

ahh, the weekend is finally here. I am going to try my hand at making some hair bows tonight. I found some instructions on how to make them. Anytime I get the glue gun out the glue gun usually wins, so we'll see what happens!:cutie:

John is off already, and how I would like to be as well. Nothing worse than a dragging Friday afternoon....well maybe Monday.

my sister did make it to Ft Lauderdale....although it was a little stressful for them, they did get lost!
I haven't heard from her today so I am hoping they awoke in time to make the sailing....

Actually, Kind of a funny story about that. Because we are often running, and I mean in a huge hurry to get her to her lesson after school, she often skates in her jeans. Problem now is that she cannot do some of the moves with jeans on, they are too restrictive. So the other day I was really late, bad mom, and she just ran in. 2 minutes later she comes running out, "Mom I can't do lunges! And we had to take everything off, put her practice outfit on and redo her skates. The reason that is so funny, is that the day before, she practiced lunges for 2 hours and the next morning she came upstairs with a cowboy walk. She said, Mom, my legs hurt right her, grabbing her inner thigh. I thought oh my, what is the teacher going to think today! She had just done so many lunges she pushed her muscles.

So yes John, she has skated in jeans, but alas, with lunges we can no longer wear them.

Shhhhhhhhhh!

Don't tell Sophia!

Ok, cool thing for me with the other moms. The moms of the little girls like DD are actually really cool. One mom, like you V, can make the most amazing bows and sews like no other!!! She is going to show me how to make them, even though I am craft and sewing challenged! She said I only have to be good with glue.

The scary ones are the older girls moms....

I think I am going to glue my name on one of the chairs at the Rink.

I just found some really cool Disney pages to print out, they are to help practice writing your alphabet! They also have some trivia as well as lots of kids activites for Epcot...such as naming the flags, finding the countries capital as well as adult Disney trivia....they are on the mouseforless.com.

Those are cute! I'll definitely be printing out the alphabet ones for Tyler. Thanks for sharing!

John and Shawn seem to be living similar lives. Jenna is a constant struggle every Monday night. She HATES wearing tights under her ballet outfit, but they are required to wear them. She probably has 15 pairs and either they are too tight, too scratchy, or doesn't like the color. Basically it is just an excuse, but she and Shawn battle every Monday night. On Saturday, it isn't a big deal because that is hip hop class and she loves her hip hop outfits. Wednesday is a struggle with Kayla because she doesn't like to wear her hair back and she is required to do so. There is the second battle. It is what it is. The reward is how proud we are when they come out of class all happy and excited. Nothing better than the joy of your children.

Happy Friday Everyone! We finally got some sunshine here, it's the first day in over a week. We're doing our first official barbeque this weekend with Sandi, Joe, Tom and Kris...DD, DSIL, DGS, DGS....Oh, I think Tom and Kris have dates....can you imagine that, dates, they're only 14 and 15 years old. It's another new stage. So I guess it'll just be a barbeque with Sandi and Joe and then some card and dice games....yes, Karen, there will be wine!!! We have a bottle of the Sbragia Chardonnay chilling now and then I would like to try the Selby Syrah with dinner.

Have a happy weekend everyone, hopefully the sun will stay a while and bring some warmth for a change.

Sounds like a great weekend! Our weather is great too.....it's 67 today and supposed to be 70 by Sunday. No rain for at least the weekend. I suppose I finally better do my yardwork.

Going to pull myself away from MSNBC and the live coverage of the NASA gunman in Houston (nobody has been shot). I don't usually watch that type of coverage anyway. Just sort of stumbled across it while channel flipping, so it's time to turn it off. :sad2: Our country has officially gone insane. I'm not going to type the details because I'm sure you will all have heard about it by the time you read this.

Off to see Larry the Cable guy with 4 other women. I have Row 1, Seat 1! Should be great! :thumbsup2

Hi Holly, I turned the news off today...first time all week. The sun is shining, the weather is warm....I was down and addicted to the news reports all week and just felt like today I should turn it off and go outside. Me and Angel took a walk around the property.:flower3:

So I didn't hear about the NASA gunman. I think I've had enough for one week. Yes our world is going insane, I quite agree.:upsidedow

Have the BEST TIME ever going to see Larry the Cable Guy with the girls. Awesome seats...I wonder if he's going to pick you out of the audience and say something about you??? Could be really fun.

How is your infection...be careful if you do yard work this weekend, don't let any dirt get in it...now I sound like your mother....sorry! Just concerned!

YEA it's the weekend....hope everyone has a great one, we all could sure use it!:goodvibes
