Not open on a Sunday though!!!:confused3 I hope they do on our Sunday next May. I read a post somewhere about taking a cab to a nearby airport that has 2 rental car firms there.

Well, that's annoying! You'd think DCL would arrange some sort of transportation to a car rental agency for this one day.

Angie - I want to see a video of this!

Last night Dennis said "let's take some time off and go surprise John1. We could pull into his driveway and blow the horn!". :lmao: He said we could do it in a week - 3 days each way. :woohoo: Um, no Dennis we need to get this house ready to sell THEN we can take those spur of the moment trips!

TOO COOL!!!:cool1:
Will you do a countdown before you pull out of the driveway????

:lmao: Probably! We also have our A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes photo framed and up in the bedroom now. Finding a frame to fit took a little looking. And of course the ship's clock that we bought on our first cruise and never had a place to put. Silly kids!

We do absolutely LOVE San Diego! I'm pretty sure that it's an easy day trip to go down there, but we have never driven it, just flown down and spent a few days down there.

We haven't been down to SD for a long time. I'm hoping to use DVC points to stay at the Del Coronado! It's the ultimate, moi thinks!!

Karen

I have a conference in the Fall at Del Coronado and can't wait! Not sure girl friends will come with me or DH. Lisa

Did anyone else hear about this offer? Disney is selling tickets to the Pirates 3premiere for 1500.00 per person! Looks like it should be a fun time though. I know a few of you were going to be in the area around this time (it is the night before your meet) and thought you might be interested.

I love the Del!! During the four years Samantha has been at University of San Diego, I have spent a great deal of time there. However, it is really changing with all the new construction. With Beach Villas starting at $2.5 million, the landscape has sure changed at the Del!

I have been thinking about taking the train back home to the SFO area. I have to wait to see what the schedule will be to see if it would work out, but thought it would be fun for the kids to take a trip with train, planes, auto (limo!), and ship! The Del had been a place my mom has wanted to spend her bday at for many years. For her 50th, we had planned a huge surprise party for her. As a 'decoy' my dad told her he was taking her to the Del. She was living in Jackson Hole at the time and we were all flying in (about 50 of us) from around the US. DH and I were the first to arrive. I remember when I showed up on her doorstep, she looked at me (I was 8 months pregnant and she hadn't seen me in 3 or 4 months), and shut the door. She was excited to see me but really bummed that she wasn't going to the Del:lmao: It worked out in the end, but she still has never been there!

My Freaky Night....

Why is it that strange things always happen when DH is away?:confused3 and they always happen in the middle of the night?:confused3

Last night about 1230, I noticed my dogs were walking all over me...like they were trying to wake me up. Then I realized I was hearing my garage door open :scared1: OK, I was pretty sure DH didn't :teleport: from Savannah and I know I didn't open it. I was scared, but not awake enough to really think it was happening. Went downstairs and checked and sure enough the garage door was open and the light was on (which meant that it had just opened within the past 10 minutes or so)! Shut it quickly....looked at my pathetic excuses for guard dogs...did a door and window check and then sat on the couch for a while trying to figure it out. Never did figure it out:confused3 Finally fell asleep around 3 after I was certain there was no one else in the house!!!!!

I had looked at that a couple of months ago. Could be an option. Anybody done it?

 You're a braver person than me. How scary.

I have done the Coast Starlight with my DD and GK's from San Jose to Los Angeles. The kids had never done a long train ride so we thought it might be fun. We were spending a few days at Universal Studios before going on to San Diego.

We did a sleeper because the trip is at least 12 hours. because we wanted the ability to be in the observation car, the lounge, eat lunch and dinner plus the kids needed a place to rest.

It is a fairly expensive option. You can price it out for yourself at www.amtrak.com

You owe your mom a trip there! ;)

As I told Marilyn, I have done this trip with kids. It is 12 hours and costs a fortune. Kids get bored very quickly. We had to bring tons of stuff for them to do and if we didn't have a sleeper, I don't know if we could have managed.

I think probably a car will be the best option really with travelling around later. I have always wanted to do a long train journey. I have seen so many films set on trains and it is impossible to go too far in the UK on a train. Mind you most of the films have had bombs on the trains, bad people of various sorts terrorising passengers, loose couplings and runaway carriages or out of control trains!!!:rotfl:

You dad better take her there before it becomes any more expensive!! I can not believe how expensive the Del is becoming!!

Actually, for DH and I traveling to Portsmouth, we prefer taking the train as I am always afraid we are going to drive on the "wrong" side!!

I did the Coast Starlight from LA to Portland in 1987 with a 15 yo DD and 9 yo DS. It is a beautiful ride from LA to SF. My DGF was a station master for the RR for years and so RR is dear to my heart. We could not get a sleeper as they were sold out, but we still had a great time. 27 hours. DD spent the night in the observation car playing cards with other kids, DS and I tried to sleep in the recliners. As Noel said though it is expensive.

We are getting more used to driving on the other side of the road the more we do it. John usually just has one incident of almost turning into the oncoming traffic but has never actually done it! Usually it is coming out of garages. He always finds it harder when we get home and have to change back!:confused3

:lmao: We did have one drunk on our trip. They stopped at the next town after he started getting out of line with a lady passenger (no station there, they just stopped) and put him off. :thumbsup2 No bombs, loose couplings or murders though. :rotfl2:
