Well Holly,

I think I am coming down with a cold now.

I went to bed at 9:00 last night!

This weather has everyone sick!

Sophia told me the janitor at school had "amonia" :rotfl2:

Now, I would have thought this was a normal cleaning fluid, but she told me he missed all week so far because of the amonia!

All Macbooks and MacBook Pros have wireless built-in - no card needed. 80211-n in the new models. What I had mentioned earlier was no modem in the MaacBooks. I bought the $%*# thing for $44, just in case on this last trip and had no need for it. Most places anymore have either wireless access or ethernet access.

BTW- you can check out everything online at the Apple Store online at www.apple.com, and teachers, students, (and school board members) get discounts at the Apple store too!

John1, you really should get a commission from these people! ;)

Night everyone!

Nan:

Your kids might really love the Lake. If you do decide to go up this summer with the kids, let me know. I often take my GK's up and they are near both Molly and Wilson's age.

I sure do know which house you mean. Your Dad's name sounds familiar but I am not sure if our families were aquainted. My parents were Walter and Elaine Johnson.

Our house on Lassen View is located two houses down from the Princes old house, in between Stuart and Stewart and Rick Peters' house who next to Gil and Gayle Reel. You mother may know some of our neighbors.

The house was build by Dr. Brown and his wife. It was originally painted blue with brown trim. The house is directly across from the golf course and you can see the clubhouse from our front porch. We collect a huge bucket of balls in the summer. The rule is if the golfer doesn't pick the ball up in a hour, finders keepers.

Houses up there have been taking a very long time to sell. I know Stuart and Barbara had the house on the market for at least three years before they sold the property for near the asking price. Our house for probate purposes was valuated at $960K though their is no way we could get that price for the house in this market. Part of the high value is being lake front property although you need a tram or very steep stairs to get to the lake.

Strangely enough, my DH's parents lived in Westwood while he was in college from 1961-65. His father was supervising construction on the prison being built in Susanville when he had a heart attack. He is buried in the cemetery in Westwood.

What a nice trip down memory lane for me!!

Noel

unfortunately we don't have any furniture in the house anymore, so I doubt we'd get up there, but never say never.

I'll ask my mom about the crew above and see which ones she knows. I of course know the Stewarts. My mom & dad were good friends with Joan & Wayne. Their daughter Mary is working as our real estate agent.

Back in May of ‘04, we had a reading by Allison DuBois (the woman that the TV show “Medium” is based on). This was before the show had come out and she was so famous. It was about a year after our mom died. We left there totally convinced that we’d communicated with our Mom. Interestingly, Ann said a couple of things in her reading that correlated with things we’d heard from Allison 2 years ago and something my sister had been told about my brother a few months ago.

Does anyone else have a story to share?

guilty pleasure...we love Medium in our house. At least DH & I do.

I, like John, would like to believe but have a hard time without the proof. I do believe that those who are passed to reach to us. My dad comes to me in my dreams. I wake up from them feeling so relieved, then so sad at the loss of him all over again.

Easter was great for us. We had a lazy morning here at home. Kids got there baskets and egg hunt inside (more low key than in year past) In the late afternoon we headed to the beach. Had a great time. Hung out, flew kites, read my book. We looked at a house from the outside, and returned today to look at the insides. It was a bust (100 year old house, built like a mobile home/trailer, requiring a tear down and the agent expects multiple offer over ask, heading to 950K or so for a tear down. Not worth it to us) but we also looked at some lovely homes on the wrong side of the highway. More of just waiting for the right one to happen.

Glad Larry is the father, he seems the least wacko of those invovled.

Just checking in. I can't believe it isn't even 10:00 here, butI am fading fast. I spent today painting one of our apartments. We own just a few rentals, and the cash flow doesn't really justify using a property management company, so we do everything ourselves. I don't really mind the painting and other maintenance. It's the tenant calls that I don't like. The tenants are only supposed to call after 5:30 pm if it is an emergency, but their definition of an emergency is quite different from ours. My favorite (not!) was when one girl called at 1:00 am to complain that someone was in her parking spot. Did she want me to wake up everyone in the building to interogate them about parking in said spot? Good gravy. Needless to say, the girl had been imbibing that evening. We also rent to lots of university students with limited experience living in the real world. One girl called to say the dishwasher was broken. I said I could send someone out the next day. Um...but the dishes are really piling up, she replies. Okayyyyy. How about you wash them in the sink....with dishsoap....and water? :rotfl:

When we were out having a lovely coffee outside in the sun:love: ), we were chatting holidays, and for 2009 we are thinking of taking 6 weeks and visit a few places in the US!!!:woohoo: This would be for, and over, our 40th wedding anniversary. It started out as 6 weeks touring Europe and changed direction! Wonder if we will be able to fit a cruise in somewhere. Only problem is I now have another holiday to plan.

After your cruises, you'll have lots of friends in the US to visit! I think it's a great idea!

Welcome!! This is a great group of folks--lots of fun, a little crazy at times, many OCD planners who will take care of all the details for you!;)

Beautiful church service this morning, followed by another egg hunt at church. Then I hurried home to cook dinner for us and my parents. With all the talk of parents who are ill or already gone, I am feeling really blessed the last few days. We moved back to Iowa to be close to our parents when we were ready to have our own family. Sure there are plenty of more exciting places to live, not to mention warmer. But it has been wonderful to have the boys grow up with their grandparents right here. I have always been grateful that the boys have wonderful grandparents close by. But the posts of the past few days have me realizing how much it means to ME to be close to my parents. I take their good health and close proximity for granted, but life is too short and unpredictable. I gave DM and DF extra hugs and kisses today.:grouphug: Sorry for the mush.

I, too, grew up with grandparents close by (across the street)--what a blessing! What a blessing, too, that you have each other and good health. Not everyone is so fortunate! I have many years of happy memories of good family times for which I will always be grateful!

My Dh was just talking about buying some property to rent to University students. I will hold him off and let you tell him those stories. That is exactly what I said would happen. Me painting. Me taking phone calls. Me doing it all. It's all about me!:rotfl:

we have a rental house too. rented at the current time to new college grads, rugby boys. I too have to laugh at the calls. fortunately DH takes them, most of the time. last week they called me and asked if we could replace the picket fence in the front yard. I replied yes we are planning on it. he then said, good can you do it within the next month. I laughed. we'll replace the decorative fence when we get to it....most likely this summer, no not within the next month.:lmao:

Wow. I got chills just reading that. Thank you for sharing and sorry for you losses.
After my uncle's sudden death at age 55 (1995) we were all pretty devastated. He was like a father to me and we were very close. It was a very hard death for me to come to terms with. About a month later my mom had a dream about my uncle and he told her a special saying that that we used to say to eachother right before he would leave (he travelled around the world teaching at US Embassy High Schools). My mom was confused but told me about her dream and all of a sudden it felt ok that he was gone.

Thanks for sharing your story.

My dad died very tragically in 1983 at age 60 (again, alcoholism involved). I was 32 and it was devastating for the whole family. A few months after his death I had a dream where I got to speak to him very briefly. I really felt he had attempted to reach out to me and it gave me some comfort.

I try to be open to whatever may come as I truly feel those loved ones are not far from us.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:
I am sure that PJ and John will have comments too........
I must say this group has made me want a mac, but now it is just a matter of finances settling down (I have this cruise I need to pay for!:lmao: ). Also, I do a lot of powerpoint presentations about wellness and weight loss at local community locations and I would hate to lose those by switching out of the microsoft world.

You can get Microsoft Office for Mac that has Word, PowerPoint, Excel---

so what are you waiting for???????????????:woohoo:
