:goodvibes Hello everyone! I soooo miss you all. It has been just crazy. We are selling our first home (which has been a rental). All with the secret plans to have enough money to take this cruise!! Just kidding (somewhat!). Tax season has KILLED us! My husband had his severance from his last job before starting his business. The taxes are sooo big. My DH is questioning this cruise and I WILL NOT LET IT GO! Of course they make real estate taxes come the same time as income taxes. Noel, you can I sure imagine what our real estate taxes is since we just got in the Woodside market in 2005. Yikes! Anyway, work and taxes has taken over our lives but I wanted to take a breath to say hi. I think soon I can do my nightly reading of DIS to catch up. But until then please keep me in your thoughts! By the way, my friend got an okay from Stanford oncology to wait for chemo and try IVF for one more month. She is thrilled as last month she could only get one egg (or how ever that works). I'm scared of course because she is postponing treatment, but I figure the doctors wouldn't okay it unless it wasn't too risky.
That's all - sorry for the long posting. Lisa

Someone just asked about you the other day. Thought it was Calmom instead of Calgon take me away!

Take care! We'll count on keeping you on board!

Got to get to bed guys. With all you Westerners, sometimes the fun just begins when I need to call it a night . . . sigh . . .

Oh well.

Have a good evening everyone!

Well then, maybe you need to get out of the snow and into the fun with the Westerners....:rotfl:

Have a good sleep!

Lisa...hope it all works out:hug: You must have sensed that we were all talking about you. I think it was this am actually I asked where you were! Glad to hear your friend is still doing well. I am sure if they were worried about her treatment they would insist she started sooner.
We have to deal with DH's severance this year as well, but haven't even started our taxes :scared1: My dad is our accountant and we are always the last to get done.

I thought we were going bowling in Aruba:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Our group did 14 jeeps in Grand Caymen....OMG....worst experience of my life....but we sure did laugh!! We drove to Rum Point.....all of us got stopped for speeding and several were threatened with jail!!

We got lost on the way back....almost missed the ship.....when we climbed aboard they SLAMMED the door behind us!! We were the last ones on board....

NIGHTMARE!!

:scared1: We'll have to remember we are in someone else's backyard and obey the rules!

:lmao: And I see you took his advice. John1, another thing you have in common with Dennis. He loves magic, a love he got from one of his favorite uncles who was really, really good.

One more. Must admit, I was not a good magician. I just liked it, thought it was cool, and thought it could get me girls - did not work. Amy's sister who went to school with me told me what a basic eccentric putz I made myself out to be in school with that kind of stuff. Didn't have those "David Copperfield" looks.

Tell Dennis we can share secrets when we meet up again.

Oh, and BTW Angie, I will now be at DL for a conference (my first time there) November 3-7. Could not pass up the opportunity to scope it out before the cruise. Anyone going to be there then? I hope to contact Jordan and have him buy me a beer, and meet up with an old friend that lives in Torrance.

Night!

Someone just asked about you the other day. Thought it was Calmom instead of Calgon take me away!

Thanks John. I feel so out of touch not reading back... I will. I just need to find to find the ENERGY! We are in Tahoe right now - free trip from my parents (timeshare). It is the kids spring break. It is beautiful - snowing today lightly. The kids are in a night camp so that is why I can DIS. My DH has been so busy with work (which is good). But 4 boys can keep you busy.

So I'm watching the Sharks in play-offs and am SOOO mad. Nashville hurt one of our best players - I bet he will be out for the whole playoffs. It is in overtime right now. Lisa

As crazy as my household is, I can not believe we are doing this. We applied in Jan to host an exchange student for a year. We have now been accepted and it looks like we will have a senior from Norway!! My girls are very excited.
Daniel will be gone to school....so he really does not care one way or the other.

I am not sure about you guys but I would have a very hard time sending either of my girls to a far away place to live for a year:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

So we all decided we can see what the life of an exchange student is like, by having one come to us!!

We had one and it was not such a grand experience. He was from Germany and had requested California as his destination. He discribed himself as cosmopolitin and they sent him to live in rural Oregon with a family that live outside of even the small town. :confused3 He also was 19 years old and all of the seniors here were 17. He never fit in at school, he was very interested in world affairs and the kids at the HS were interested in who would be winning the football game this week. It really was a sad situation. We sent him to visit friends of ours in California over Christmas break so that he could at least experience that and when he returned he called the coordinator and told her that he would either be sent to live with a family in California or he would return home. Luckily they were able to locate a willing family in California so that the last half of his stay was better for him. He was a nice young man, just put in the wrong place.

I knew i liked that lady. Now how does she feel about TTA?

I am torn, I love this ride, but I am heading down October 20th, with newbies, anyone think there might be some soft opening opportunities? I won't be at WDW again until after May of 09, :scared1: unless I come down a day early for the repo cruise.

Well of course you will come a day - or two - early for the cruise. We will have a room you can share.

Trust me on this, no one, NO ONE wants to be around if I Karoake. While I love to sing, I am the worst singer on God's green earth, and I would clear a room and embarass my family in a heartbeat. Amy would toss me off the ship, or leave me stranded by the side of the road in Aruba.

I'll just watch and sing it in my head.

Elasto Boy would save you and take you back to the ship!;)

We have applied for an extension...I just can't even imagine how much it will be or how we will pay for it. But it will work out... I know. It has to because I WILL be crossing the panama canal on my 40th! Lisa

As an eighth grader, and then again as a Junior in HS, Alex spent three weeks in France each summer. One of those weeks was spent with a French Family in their home. He got some wonderful lifelong experiences out of that. Now, a whole year - that's a different story. And a girl (sorry if this is not pc and sounds sexist) but I think that would be a different story too.

I keep hearing what I am in for in a few years (like it's easy now?) and I cannot imagine having to deal with that with a girl who also may have a bit of a language barrier. Or, to send my daughter over somewhere for a year in her teens?

Am I being an irrational dad?

Nope, you are just being a Dad who loves his little girl very much!

I'll never forget being 11 and having a French exchange student. My parents didn't know what to do when the 17 year old went nude sunbathing while my 18 year old brother just watched the show! Lisa

Aww Angie! misty eyes, again. I will have to work a Saturday before the cruise, holiday for the year are from May 1st, so I think my boss will be ok with me working off an extra day. I will be using my whole allotment on the cruise and short stay at DL afterwards, thank gosh one of the day is a stat holiday which allows for travel back to BUF at the end. Were are "we" staying, ;)

Anyone old enough like me to remember "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights"? Meatloaf?
:thumbsup2

NIGHTMARE!!

All of these "talk to the dead" stories kind of "creep" me out:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Never had anything like that....Thank Goodness....

But, I can tell some pretty awesome "We almost missed the ship" stories....anyone have any of those???

NO, thank goodness! Last summer we took the Disney excursion to Rum Point (bus to water taxi, to the beach). That place is WAY far away! You guys sound CRAZY! Did you get a picture of your convoy pulled over by the cops???

I am saving up my points (large sales, training, etc.) for the either a macbook or the new widescreen video ipod whenever it comes out.

ENVY!!!

And the first one they put us in was running when we got in. Thankfully Dennis is always prepared and decided he should turn it off and start it, just to make sure and sure enough it wouldn't start up again. We called the rental guys over and they moved us to another. Thank goodness he was suspicious of that engine being already running for us. We would have been stuck at the first stop. :sad2:

Just part of the adventure of traveling in Mexico!!:lmao:

These stories are all so wild!! I have never had...or ever known anyone who has had anything like this!!

I am so sorry for your family.....I hope everything worked out.

Yes, fortunately it did. After 5-6 years, my aunt made the first move of restoring communication, kind of apologizing in a round-about way. It was a relief to me to be on good terms again because we had always been very close (she and my mother were sorority sisters in college and she introduced my mom & dad). It had caused a very awkward situation with her kids (my only cousins) who didn't want to take sides. One of my sisters and I were very willing to put it behind us, but my other sister and my brother held on to their resentments quite a bit longer. But eventually everything was put to rest. By the time my mom died, we were all on good terms again.

That reminds me of something else my sister and I heard at our reading from Allison DuBois. At one point she said, "Sister...does your mother have a sister?" We said no, she was an only child. She kept saying, "I keep getting 'sister' ". Then I remembered that my aunt's family nickname was "Sister"--everyone in the family and from her childhood called her that, even friends. And she was also my mother's sorority sister--so I told her these things. Then Allison said, "Oh that must be what it is...well, I don't want to upset you, but your aunt is ill. Your mother is going to do everything she can to keep her around as long as possible." This was in May. We said nothing to our cousins. A few months later my aunt was diagnosed with lung cancer (which is what my mother also had). She lived about a year longer.

This reminds me of another Greek thing. Greeks believe that for 40 days after death, the soul walks the earth, and communicates with loved ones. My mother used to tell me this all the time. She told me she saw her parents after they died when she was over here instead of in Greece. Once the memorial service is held at church after 40 days, the soul can then rest, and goes to heaven.

I have to say that since mom's death in December, I had dreams with her in them, but nothing vivid or earth-shaking like you guys have related. Just normal stuff. I waited for it too, because I was betting she would come back and say "told you so" to me about the 40 days.

That's very interesting about the 40 days and makes sense to me. I, too, have had many dreams with my mom, dad and brother in them, but have only had one where I felt I was communicating with my dad, and maybe one or two with my mom. None with my brother.

Good to hear from you, Lisa!

Yes I do, tucked away inside a magic catalogue. Have not looked at it in a while. In the picture he is in handcuffs, ready to escape!

Are you going to entertain us with some magic?? Maybe after a couple of DODs?:rotfl:

I got one too about six months ago, while I really like it, I hardly ever use the laptop anywhere near a flat surface (other than when using Quicken) so I found I don't use it much.

I use it with my iMac desktop. With my iBook I just tough it out with the touch pad!

Oh my goodness, John. I am not Greek and had never heard this, however...I was visited by two relatives shortly after they died and I was wide awake both times. One was my Grandmother who evidently visited several family members. My Dad described her dress to my aunt (he was not at her funeral) and the dress he described was one he had never seen, but that she was buried in. When she visited me she said nothing, she just stood at the foot of my bed. It was very peaceful. Then several years later when Dennis' dad passed he came to visit. He was quite a gardner and he was on my deck looking at some tomatoes I had growing in pots. He too said nothing, he just looked over the plants, looked at me and disappeared over the side of the deck. Again it was very peaceful and I was neither frightened or surprised either time. When Dennis came home that day I said "Your Daddy came to visit today" and he just said "oh really" and I told him about it. He too was not surprised or freaked out. I must add, Dennis' dad and I loved each other very much and my grandmother and I were very close too. My dad and I were not close after I was 16 and he filled that void for me. I spent the last night he was alive with him as Dennis' mom was just worn out and needed sleep. He died at home of cancer and the last few days and nights was very restless, getting up and down every few minutes and he needed help to get up.

I miss them both still and it has been 17 years since we lost my grandmother and 11 for Dennis' dad.

The student must have been female, right??:thumbsup2

Oh that is tempting! We'll have to see how the sale of the house is going by then. If the house is ready to market and sold we would not have to do the Thanksgiving madness at our house and might be able to squeeze one more DL trip in. Will your 2 girls be going with you?
