the cheapest we can do is around £660(for 2), which would be around $1200 at the moment.

I have a question....I will show what a stupid American I am.....but I HAVE never travelled to Europe.

Right now, if someone says 600 pounds that is about $1,200 US ......I gather that from this post....

If someone says 600 Euro's is it about the same conversion right now?

I guess this does make it a very good deal for your travel money to travel to the US?

Ah, now, the Dollar/Euro will be a different exchange rate so I can't help you there. For us at the moment the Pound/dollar rate is better for us than the pound/euro but I imagine for you the dollar/euro rate will be better than the dollar/pound. Complicated and doesn't help you much!!!

www.xe.com is my favourite currency site, and easy to remember.

so it looks like 600 euro = 820 usd

Okay, so now do I plan to take Euro's with me or get them on the ship? My bank will get them for me for no upcharge....Platinum Banking Package.

I have no idea how much to take. I know there are upcharges for using a credit card......

I think this will be the hardest part for me (other than still trying to find air to get there!!),

We took about 580 euros for our 2 weeks in Spain. There were only 2 of us and we were not spending much - no souvenirs etc. We were self catering for the most part and only ate out for 6 evening meals. Meals were very reasonably priced in Spain. I think France is not too badly priced but Italy may be more expensive. We did have coffees and cakes out every day but only had an odd glass of wine with the meals.

I think I would want to have some of the euros before we left, but check the different exchange rates. Our rates differ just around the local travel agents and other currency exchanges.

Good morning all...I've been reading and not posting a lot these past few weeks...not feeling great, very tired and sleeping. I have an appointment with my rheumotologist this morning. He's in Scranton, which is about an hour drive from my house. DS John is taking me. I'm afraid I'll fall asleep at the wheel if I try to drive myself.

Kaylee and Karen, sounds like your vacations were perfect and fun!

Angel, we're still waiting for a report and pics from your vacation.

Lisa, good luck with the planning for your med cruise...hang in there and it will all be worthwhile.

Holly, have a great camo party for Tyler this weekend and take lots of pics and post some for us to see.

For all of you going to the DL DISmeet, I'm so jealous and wish that I could be there with you. Please post pics so we can all share.

John, how about them Mets!!! It's the only baseball team I know and they're doing quite well this year. So GO METS. I'm more of a football fan, so I'll be able to keep up with the sports talk in September.

To all of our newcomers, welcome and join in! We usually have a lot of fun going on here.

Lucy, we have our own miniDISmeet going on this weekend....remember it's Saturday night at Fridays Restaurant....say 6:00pm. I'm really looking forward to it!!!

Gotta go get ready to leave soon....cya on the return.

:cool2: :flower3: :cool2:

sorry Deb, and anyone waiting for cruise details/photo's....been feeling pretty rubbish since I got back so haven't had chance to do much. :( My thoughts are with you Deb, hope you're soon feeling better too.

As soon as I'm up to par I'll get those pix sorted :)

After many trips to Europe, we no longer exchange money in advance. ATMs are plentiful. We get the local currency at airport ATMs upon arrival, and as needed at ATMs in the cities we visit.

Carol,

DD and I did the Plaza for breakfast this trip as well. The food was not so great, and the lines to get the food were terrible. We did have lovely, but very brief visits with Minnie, Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Capt. Hook, Geppetto, chip and Dale.

I actually perfer Goofy's Kitchen and really enjoy Storyteller's at the Grand Californian for breakfast. They have great food and are well organized. Between the two, you will get a great grouping of characters.

Karen

We too prefer Storyteller's for the food and Goofy's kitchen for the characters.

We were at Storyteller's the last Sun in April and the characters were 2 bears from Brother Bear (sorry - don't know their names) and Chip & Dale.

Last time we were at Goofy's I remember - Goofy, Max, Alice, Mad Hatter, Geppetto, King Louie and Pluto.

Thanks Karen for the information. :thanks: Our DD picked the Plaza breakfast because our DGS watches ::MickeyMo on the DC. She thought he might relate to the characters there more than one of the other breakfasts. We have one of the first PS times so maybe it won't be too crowded yet for us.

They have Southern California Passes but have never taken the kids over night. The only time DD and DSIL have spent the night there is for their honeymoon so this will be a new experience for them. They are used to just going to DL for a few hours like any other amusement park. Think they will be in for a shock with DGma, who is a big WDW and DCL planner and plans to get the most out of her time at DL with her DGKs. Maybe it will prepare them a little for the family trip to WDW in 2009. I know they have no idea what they are getting into there.:confused3 :rotfl2:

Thank you for the information. Now at least I know who we should see at both. I am sure we will be going to DL with them again so will try Storyteller's next time.

I really can't wait to take them to WDW in 2009. They are in for such a shock :scared1: . We are taking 7 of our 8 GKs ranging in age (at the time) from 2 1/2 to 11 and their parents. Two of our DD's grew up in CA with DL and knowing what their father's reaction to WDW was, it will be fun to see theirs.

:sad1: Deb, I hope your appointment goes well and that you feel better soon!

we do the same thing, find an ATM and use our bank debit card and take out what we need locally. Although, we usually have a pound, or euro in our pocket from prior travels....the bank charges are that much for us $1-2 and then we don't have to lug the money around.

Okay, Explain this to me. I get off of the ship somewhere in Europe. I go to an ATM machine. I use my regular ATM card and I ask for 100 Euro. It will then convert to US $$ and withdraw from my account in US $$ but Euro spit out of the ATM?

How much do I expect to pay for this service?

That is how the ATM in the US work for my Canadian debit card. I insert, chose how much US$ I want, then it take the proper CA$ out of my account, although it does show me a US$ balance.

Yes, has worked the same way for me in Canada.

I believe they figure the exchange rate on the day the transaction processes. You should ask YOUR bank what they charge (processing fee at foreign ATM), and also ask if they have agreements or relationships with any foreign banks that could save you fees abroad.

I assume that the most convenient ATM's probably charge the highest fees, so you may also want to research the availability and location of ATM machines at the ports of call.

:scared1: I didn't know about the Payson area fire until I saw the 10:00 news tonight. Is that why it was hazy in Phoenix today?

Probably, I didn't think about the fire causing a haze until you mentioned it. You must have lived in CA before.

For all of the Desperate Housewives fans, Shawn called a little over an hour ago and said he was just standing next to Eva Longoria at his work. Said she is tiny! Guess she is in town for the big Suns vs Spurs game tonight and wanted to get some shopping in beforehand. She was looking at shoes . . . . . imagine.

Speaking of the game - did the Suns get jobbed or what? Thundering Dan (Majerle) was in Shawn's work earlier today and one of his coworkers said to big Dan that he should come out of retirement for tonights game. The Suns could use him. Mr Majerle just apparently laughed and said that he would like to but would probably embarass himself.

We need the help - Go Suns!
