Good afternoon Maz :) Morning to everyone else!;)

I've just had lunch with my dd as its her 19th birthday tomorrow and she has a free afternoon today :) It was lovely to spend some time with her.

I picked Dennis up at 7 last night and we went directly to the casino. We had dinner there. They have a restaurant that looks out at the ocean, it was just at sunset, the waves were pretty big, the weather had just cleared enough so that there was some blue sky along with the clouds. It was beautiful and dinner was amazing! I had coconut/rum shrimp and Dennis had sauted scallops....we shared. Every piece of dinner was perfect, the roasted potatoes, the grilled veggies, and the presentation. It was so good that I sent a 10% tip to the chef. I have only done that a few times, but it was that good!

The Siletz Tribe is $90 richer now also! :lmao: :lmao: Fun evening though. I only lost $10, so that tells you the luck DrHug had with his slots! :sad2:

Today the weather has cleared. The sun has shone all day. I took a walk around the park this morning and realized I should have taken Dennis' camera...so I came back to the MH, got the camera and did the walk again. The lake here is quite pretty, it was very quiet with only one man and a child fishing today. The whole park is silent since it is off season here on the coast. Only us old folks in RVs here. Lovely, lovely days for me this week, but alas...back to work tomorrow. BUT the good news is that I just work one day and then I am off Friday thru next week for our trek to Montana with DGS and his buddies. :thumbsup2

That sounds lovely!

Our DD is the "Princess of Caution". We finally got her on Pirates and Haunted Mansion a few years ago and they are now her favorite.:thumbsup2

Last February we got her on Thunder Mountain and this past December we got her on Splash. She has "no desire" to do either again!:scared1:

We keep trying new ones with her, we'll see what we can get her on in May at DL. DH usually bribes her with cash to try new things!

Karen

lol Karen, sounds like Becky! Even at 18 she's pretty chicken really. We'll see what we can get her to go on in October!;)

OK, before I go do "other" important things, I wanted to post another shot that my DD took of herself in Bodega. The sunset behind her is the view from our porch!!

Karen

Beautiful daughter, beautiful sunset!

Just popping in to say good morning before I take DS9 to the dentist. I forgot to tell you all that he knocked out a good portion of both of his front teeth (about 1/3 of each one) on our very first day of vacation in Hawaii on a waterslide.

That's terrible! I'm assuming these were his permanent teeth? How do they fix that??? Poor kid!! Good luck!

MMmmmmmm.....Chippendales! I never saw them in my 20s, but saw them for the first time a few months ago. :cloud9: :woohoo: Lets just say I was quite shocked! Pleasantly! Maybe that's what set me off.....:rolleyes1

Well, at 21 believe it or not, it was shocking, especially when this one guy got up on our table and shoved his thonged behind into my face....to which I did put $1 bill, following the prescribed tradition that I was informed of!!! :rotfl: It was a sight to see, that's for sure.....

Samantha is a member of a Sorority called Kappa Alpha Theta.
Laura Bush (Beta Sigma, Southern Methodist) - wife of President George W. Bush.
Lynne Cheney (Beta Omega, Colorado College) - wife of Vice President Dick Cheney.

That's interesting that both Laura Bush AND Lynne Cheney were Thetas! One of my closest college friends was president of her Theta chapter at UCI which we went there. I was a Tri-Delt (Delta Delta Delta-SNL had some fun with our sorority...."Delta Delta Delta, can I help ya, help ya, help ya.........")

I think it would take many vacations to see all that your State has to offer. We have seem much, but that will only scratch the surface I know.

Come visit, come visit.................:thumbsup2

OK so what has happened to AuntyBrat (Laura)?!?! Is she on a long vacation???

She shares her birthday with me! Say Happy Birthday to her from me won't you!:bday: :cake: :bday:

Absolutely!!! I know the shake and password....but do not remember the kiss, which makes me think I learned it but we didn't use it either! You'll have to remind me onboard!!! Our chapter was Beta Upsilon at UC Irvine.

We did it once at initiation and the was it. I was made VP Membership the day after, that is how small our chapter was, just 18 girls when I joined. Pan-Hel cap on Campus was 45, Greek was not big here in Canada.

Wow, that is small. Our chapter had about 130 girls in it, which was about average at UCI for the greeks. We didn't have on houses like most schools did so that kinda stunk. So, we had our exchanges (dances) at community centers and the like. About 5 years after I graduated, UCI built on campus housing for the frats and sororities. They were houses, all in one area but had that college "building" look to them, not like the old houses I was used to seeing at USC or UCLA. Nonetheless, it was nice to see the houses and the inside was decorated nicely by the girls.

I was the "Trident" correspondent one year--I spent my leadership "skills" less with the sorority and more with the student body (I was VP of associated students my last year of college). I just had fun with the sorority!

Will do Maz!
I don't know where the time's gone....19!!!! I'm sure I'm only just a little older still myself!;)

:thumbsup2 I shall save my 'Happy Birthday' wishes for you til tomorrow!;)

I am a Tri-Delta, and we also use the Pansy to represent our alumnea members.
Here are some of our symbols and meanings

The pearl is the jewel of Tri Delta. It was chosen to symbolize the new member because it is the one jewel that grows, developing from a tiny grain of sand into a thing of great value and beauty.

The pine tree is a symbol of Tri Delta's collegiate members because it represents growth and lofty aspirations.

The pansy is Tri Delta's flower. It is a symbol of alumnae membership and the third step in the lifetime development of Delta Delta Delta's members.

The dolphin was considered a good omen by the ancient Greeks. It symbolized rebirth, friendship and leadership. In Tri Delta the dolphin is symbolic of clear skies and smooth sailing and has special significance for Fraternity leaders.

OUR PURPOSE
Written in 1888 by Sarah Ida Shaw, Boston
THE PURPOSE OF DELTA DELTA DELTA shall be to establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, to develop a stronger and more womanly character, to broaden the moral and intellectual life, and to assist its members in every possible way.
IT SHALL ALSO BE THE PURPOSE OF DELTA DELTA DELTA to promote and develop mutually beneficial relationships between the Fraternity and the colleges and universities where the Fraternity has established chapters, to develop qualities of unselfish leadership among its members, and to encourage them to assume, with integrity and devotion to moral and democratic principles, the highest responsibilities of college women.

Some interesting members,
Sara Blakely, Florida State, founder and owner of SPANX
Leeza Gibons, South Carolina
Katie Couric, Virginia
Maria Cribbs Owens, Baylor, Brigadier General United States Air Force
JoAnna Garcia, Florida State, she stars on REBA, the oldest daughter
Senator Elizabeth Dole, Duke

The Theta experience for Samantha has been wonderful. She did the website for her sorority.

If you click on Mr. University (she is doing it again this year) link, she is in the top picture row, third from the left and she is the blonde on the right.

My nephew was in Delta Upsilon fraternity at Lehigh in PA. Everybody called them members of "DUH"

None of the sororities or fraternities have houses at USD. Samantha was really sad that she did not get to live in a house.

It is amazing. My eldest is 37 this year and I find it impossible to believe. I really am not old enough to have such an old child!!!

Noel, is it the picture with 2 gorgeous blond girls? Well she looks stunning! Took a little while to find it as there is a Mr. University link on the home page too!!

I was sad too! I thought being in a house would really add to the experience. We did spend one week at the Tri-Delt USC house over the summer while preparing for rush and that was a great experience. The Tri- Delt house there is absolutely gorgeous! One of the prettiest on the street. And it is decorated with beautiful antiques...you could tell the alumnae had made some generous donations to the house.

We all had houses on Campus, there were 6 Women's Fraternities and one Sorority, AGD, and I think 13 men's Frats. Never understood why we chose to use the term Women's Fraternity, I know that is what we were founded as, instead of Sorority. Canadians had no clue what a women's frat was and there was little or no girls who were referred by alumnea. We have a very strong University run Residence program, about 20,000 beds for 55,000 students. Alot of us were commuter students.

Don't feel bad, I have a 40 year old son. I still feel stunned!!

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, that is the right one. She is the blonde on the left. We think she is pretty gorgeous too but we are prejudiced!!

None are allowed at USD. Some obscure law in San Diego does not allow houses after a certain date.

We only had room for nine girls to live in chapter, and we had two overnight beds in the entertainment room. We also had no housemom or other staff, ie cooks etc. I know that some houses with 100+ girls will have staff, I couldn't see it working anyother way. We also did not have to live in chapter, but those who wanted to, recieved the right based on a point system.

Our houses are just off campus, about 500 yards, the university built a huge library where the greek houses used to be in the 1960's.

One thing I missed was doing a road trip to another chapter.

Noel, very pretty young lady you have there.

Samantha went to University of Michigan to visit her best friend and stayed in the Theta house there which is gorgeous. She also has slept in the USC house.

Thanks for the compliment on Sam!!
