I'd definately wait till AFTER 2/8/08 before trying to hunt down the folks who haven't been added to the list(s) in the meantime. Hopefully, some folks who have to cancel will post on the thread. I'm also betting some lurkers won't post UNTIL 2/8/08. ::yes::

OK....back to catching up. I take one night off the DIS and you guys sure were chatty!!

There are few people on the Gay and Lesbian thread who are on the WB and think we are to chatty. :rotfl: I think they have us confused with EB.

And I probably would have believed you too!:thumbsup2

Blond I am...:rotfl:

Karen
I often have people ask me, "Are you sure you don't just dye your hair brown to cover the blond?" :rotfl2: So I'm constantly saying, "I swear, I'm NOT blond!" :lmao:

92 degrees here......DH and my oldest son just left to go up to the mountains for a boy scout weekend and sadly they had to leave the sled here because all the snow MELTED!!!!
It's 29 degrees here right now! I think spring was cancelled this year and I just didn't get the memo.

wow sounds like everyone has a lot going on....!!

We'll be pretty boring unless of course we start breaking in the new mattress!! ;)

TMI!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ok, just jealous, we really need a new mattress...:rotfl2:

Karen
:rotfl2: A new mattress? Heck, I need a new BED! I have had a twin bed for years but now that's a problem! :rolleyes1

It never ceases to amaze me the difference there is between our two countries on how they treat their Servicemen and women, and military veterans.

In the US there seems to be a general respect for them, as well as financial and other benefits. You even have Memorial Day, a public holiday, in recognition of their contribution to your society. I've read about businessmen giving up their 1st class seats on planes to Servicemen, or signing them into airport lounges. During my most recent visit, as I boarded a plane, there was a soldier taking his seat and the man next to him thanked him for what he was doing for their country.

I'm sad to say that it is completely different in the UK. :sad2:

It makes me very proud to have you say that we treat our military well. I feel that we could always do better and do more!! I find myself to be quite a patriot, even if I don't always agree with the politics of the time, I am always very proud of my country. (OK, off the soapbox...):thanks:

I am also sorry that it is not the same in the UK. I am surprised as I have always found my UK friends to be warm and generous of spirit. Perhaps it will change and is a cyclical thing.:rolleyes1

Karen

I am finally all caught up! :cool1:
John, thanks for posting the Post Count. It is funny I came with about the same amout of posts that I've done here!

Update on my friend - she is able to do the IVF before the Chemo starts on April 1. So she will start to get hormone shots next week.:sad2: Makes me a little scared, but by doing this it will hopefully get her focused then on fighting the cancer (NHL). She has had two weeks of radiation already. The treatments will go until Oct. Her doctor gave her off until Dec, so she hopes to go back to teaching in Jan 08. Thanks for all the positive thoughts. I will see her tonight.

My sister has suprised me with an all paid Maui trip over Memorial Day week-end - four nights! Can't wait - she has lots of miles with work so we will travel first class and have a Mai Tai on the way! Actually, not a big fan of Mai Tai - maybe Champange! What do I care - I'll have a domestic beer. Four nights with no guitar lessons, homework, work....HEAVEN:cloud9:

Ok - off to work! Have a good day all. Lisa

We're keeping your friend in our thoughts. :grouphug:

You'll have fun in Maui. Haleakala at sunrise is beautiful and the old Lahaina luau is fun.

Deb - I believe you have to be in a cat 3 or above to fax the list in?! :confused3 Someone may have already addressed it?

I sent one in, and the lady laughed when she called and asked if I knew the others who had faxed in 15 months in advance. She just said that she would require a final list early spring next year.

Legal minimum (I think) is now 20 days plus the 8 statutory Bank (Public) Holidays.

My organisation gives 25 days standard plus an extra 5 days after 5 years, so I get 30 days. Plus 8 Bank Holidays and 2.5 'privilege' days (extra days added to certain Bank Holiday periods). So 40.5 days total.

Plus we work flexi-time. Do you guys have that? I'm contracted to work 37 hours per week but have times during the day when I have to be in work ('core time') and times between which I can start and finish ('flexi-time'), eg I can start work any time 0700-1000, must attend 1000-1200, can take lunch (30 mins minimum, 2 hours max) between 1200-1400, must attend 1400-1530, can finish any time 1530-1800.

It works on a 4-week flexi-sheet, during which time you can take up to 2 full days (or 4 half-days) off using the hours you have already accumulated. Or you can be up to 1.5 days in debit. There are limits on how many hours credit or debit can be carried out to the next flexi period. And it all has to fit in with colleagues/bosses and the needs of the business in your area.

I generally try to have at least a day in credit in case I need an odd day off for something. And if I'm planning a vacation then I'll save my flexi so that I don't have to use as many leave days, eg 2 weeks usually only costs me 8 days leave.

It gives employees some flexibility, and saves employers paying overtime.
And I love it! :) Really missed it when I've worked places that don't do it.

Sounds very convoluted, but really great!!:cool1:

I think that there would be less "illness" issues and a lot of happier workers if this was done at more businesses.:thumbsup2

Karen

So what exactly do you folks get for vacation?

:thumbsup2 We can then have "Our Big Fat Greek Cruise"!

I first saw this movie on the Magic!! It had just come out and there was standing room only to watch it in the Buena Vista Theatre!!:thumbsup2

Love it!!

Karen

The movie was filmed here in Toronto and I have been in many of the locations. The best is the fathers house, we drive by it every day on the way downtown and it really exists, lol. And yes it was like that long before the movie came out, lol.

I heard the way you maximize Palo is befriend (now that will be hard to do ) other people sailing with you...you have them make a ressie one night and then you make it the next. So, if you befriend 15 others, you could potentially eat there every night...see I've got it all covered!!!! :lmao:

Befriend me  Befriend me :yay:

Now for the northern California report....in the high 70's today, all the windows opened to air out the house and predicted to be 80 over the weekend.

And now back to the freezing cold east...brrrrrrr

:surfweb:

It is beautiful, beautiful here today also! It must be at least 70 and the sun  has been shining all day! :cool1: I had to take a roadtrip this morning. DrHug is working about 50 min. away and he forgot to take his BP meds before he left. He called about 9:30 and said he was feeling it. :scared1: When BP is high enough to feel the difference it is TOO high! So, I took meds to him. The drive is through the country, two lane roads, no traffic so I was able to enjoy the sunshine on my way. :)

Ok I just made $285 in completely extra cash and the potential to make another $250. I am so tempted to book a Friday off work in December and fly down for the DIS meet, lol. Spend Friday night and fly back on the last flight Saturday night. It's a sickness, I tell ya.

Where's my mom hat? I need the mom hat!! :rotfl:

Yep, the local NBC affiliate. We're owned by Gannett, a giant news/media corporation and overall a great company to work for. EXCEPT they make you wait till you've been with the company 30 years to get five weeks vacation!!!!!! You get 4 weeks at 10 years then have to wait FOREVER for that 5th week. I'm almost there....been with the company 27 1/2 years. Might be able to squeeze in a couple of years with 5 weeks vacation before they kick me out! ;)

Uh oh, speaking of work.....I'd better hit the shower! Later kids.

We should find out what each other does for a living....we know Karen sell Wine....

I design and sell office furniture to very large office buildings. My DH, who will not be traveling with me, is a minister!!

I am in for High Tea. I would really like to do it and I have heard that it really isn't something that most men would enjoy so I would rather go with a bunch of female friends than one DH that is sulking because he was made to go to keep me company.:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Carol

My DH enjoyed tea at Palo. But, we may just be different than other folks. Our DGS14 had his 13th birthday party at our local tea house. :confused3 He and 5 of his buddies learned the history and ettiquette of tea. They had a great time and the proprietor was thrilled to have gentlemen join her.

My DH really wouldn't sulk about going with me. He is really sweet about doing things like that. :cloud9:  I just know that tea itself is not one of his favorite things and if I can find someone else to go with he would rather I did. Now, if it is the beer tasting it would be just the opposite. I make him go to that by himself because I can't stand the stuff. :sad2:

We should find out what each other does for a living....we know Karen sell Wine....

I am an accountant and DH is a manager of a grocery store.....
DH would love to be a botanist and I would love to be:
a face character at Disney
party planner
professional wine taster
OPI nail polish namer
seamstress for the Chippendales
MLB, NFL & NHL's official uniform sizer

among a multitude of other things....

Happy Friday night everyone! We went and bought new bedding for our new mattress!! My goodness, I haven't purchased sheets or anything for awhile...that stuff is expensive!! Not to mention our bedroom walls are sort of hard to match ---- sort of a dark mustardy color. The girls are watching Peter Pan and we are watching March Madness.

I did hit the Disneystore and bought my sister an Alice mug, Alice frame, Alice notebook and sticky notes...all were $4.99 and I had a 15% off coupon, not too bad...
