Karen, I always want to know more about wines. DH and I had our first date at a wine tasting in Southampton Long Island. And I married him. We both love wine. His tastes vary from sweet to dry. My taste is pure pucker. I grew up eating greek food and love lemon. As a child, I used to eat them like oranges. So my taste for wine is super dry to pure pucker. I love it when you almost think you didn't drink it coz it wasn't wet. I would love to do a case, but I would like a mix, if that's ok? I would have to let DH pm you to get specific. He knows wine and he knows what I like and then we could also mix in some sweets. He loves Reislings. I never drink them, too sweet for me. We both love red and white and I LOVE champagne. White Star is my favorite. Let me know if a mix is ok with you and I'll have DH PM you soon.

Karen, DH and I were talking about doing a wine tour when we get off the boat. We'll be staying in LA for a week and doing DL for the first time and other things around the area. Since we won't have the time to drive up to the "wine country" in CA, I've heard that there are some good wineries in Santa Barbara. Is that true? If so, where would you suggest we go? If not, are there any wineries within driving distance from LA that we could tour?

Not too OCD, planning every detail of my trip already. Well all the ressies and planning for my halloween cruise are finished. I have to do something now. :rotfl:

Deb,

We specialized in mixing it up!! We also give 10% case discounts, mixed or all one kind.:thumbsup2

Sounds like you would like white Bordeaux or white blends with a dry edge. You might also like dry Rieslings as they can be made sweet, dry or off-dry. Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand can be dry as well.

As for red wines, they can be trickier as dryness is perceived differently with them. Usually sweet and red are dessert wines or ports. But there are wines with muscat blended into them that can make them a bit sweeter.

Dryness in reds can fall into the shiraz/syrah, petite sirah, cabernet or even some merlots with a cab edge, because of their relation to tannins.

So, once again, more information than you probably wanted...;)

I think we will have to pm anyone who is not active on the list to get a realistic head count. Of course Lisa is the person who is in charge of the main list so it is her call.

Noel

I think that's the best thing to do...but after seeing the post John made listing all our posts I realized how many of us there are and that would be a big task....helpers would be required!!! The other thing is, I don't want to put anyone on the spot by asking (I'm the one who worries about what I said and/or how it was taken).

I suppose this is something we should do closer to sailing to ensure better accuracy. In the meantime, those of you what want to be on the master list, keep PMing me.

As you can see, I don't have all the answers so again, any input or suggestions on how to handle those who don't post regularly would be appreciated!

Deb,

Here are a couple of websites for some wine regions in that area. I will also look into some of the ones down there that I would suggest.

Perfect! I'll have DH PM you tomorrow for specifics.

I love learning about all the varieties. Thanks for the info.

Not for me!

I would be happy to volunteer as your assistant. I could PM everyone on John's postings list. It's no problem. Would that help you?

Just watched a new show with Jeff Goldblum, (I love Jeff Goldblum!!):rolleyes1

It's called Raines and it has a great storyline about a cop that "sees dead people". But very well written. I really liked. I had DVR'ed it (Tivo for Directv) and it was surprisingly good!:cool2:

Yes, that would really help. And I would really appreciate it. I would say, start with the bottom half because a lot of the folks in the upper portion already already PM'd me. Do you have excel? PM me with your email address and I can send you the spreadsheet I made up and you can add whatever info you get to that and forward it back to me....or whatever method you come up with works for me too, I just appreciate the help!

Thanks!!!!

Deb-I know Karen and I are up late, but isn't it REALLY late where you are? Are you sleepless tonight? I was like that last night, up until 3 so you'd think I'd be zonked out tonight! I get energized in the evening, not sure why (I don't have caffene late or anything).

Well the DIS will be going down soon...boo hoo!

Who's gonna nab 9000? I wonder if there are any thieves lurking...may be too late for them.....

No Problem....consider it done. I will start with the bottom coz they post the least amount so they're really the ones we need to reach. Yes I have excel and I will PM you with my email address. Send me the spreadsheet and I'll update it after I get responses and send it back to you. I think that'll work fine.

I'm so happy to be involved in doing something. So far, all I've done is join things already in progress and taken care of. Now I can contribute too.

Deb,

But isn't it late where you are!! Lisa just pointed that out and I remember the other night I was asking you the same thing!:confused3

I'm a night owl too, rare that I fall asleep early like last night.

Of course, I'm not real good in the morning either!! I get up, do all the stuff to get the kid to school, and then I go back to sleep for a bit or if I have to be up then I am just not quite all there till around 11ish!!;)

Lisa, we only have ten more posts to go to hit 9k. Can we do it or leave it for the UKers?

Speaking of up late, even for you, it's very late too.

When do the boards go down?

When do the boards go down?

They used to go down at 12:20, just like clockwork every night. But since daylight savings time, there hasn't been a set time.

Last night it went away around 9:15. This is all Pacific time.
