Sorry to bring up a sad subject, but my good friend just got diagnosised with non-hodgkins lymphoma on Friday.
Agg. Life just turns sometimes. I have been saying prayers for all those that have mentioned things on the board, can't believe I'm sending the request now.
Thanks for listening.

Oh goodie!

We've been spending the day digging out from the snowstorm. The local forecasters weren't too far off with all their hype this time. We did get hit with 8-10 inches of snow.

It's really beautiful, but I got my workout for today by shoveling our sidewalks.

I probably shouldn't mention that I had lunch on the patio, eh?

I was born in 68!

I gradulated high school in '68! :faint:

We are bringing the lobster tales and our close friends are bringing the filet roast! Of course, we are also bringing wine! :dance3:

And I felt 'fancy' with my crab dip, celery and diet root beer! ;)

Sorry to bring up a sad subject, but my good friend just got diagnosised with non-hodgkins lymphoma on Friday. I found out yesterday, and just got off the phone with her sister. She is undergoing some more tests today - bone marrow, scans, etc. She went to the doctor on Friday because she had some swelling in her face - she thought it was allergies. She is 37, a high school teacher, and has a 3 year old DD. I was in her wedding - I set up her and her husband. There were friends forever, but I saw this spark and became a match maker one St. Patrick evening in SF. Anyway, the doctor on Friday sent her straight to the hospital after her blood results came back. She has already had a treatment of chemo. The tumor is blocking (80%) the artery to her heart and has caused tremendous swelling. She doesn't want visitors today - asked that I come tomorrow. I imagine she is somewhat in shock - it has all happened so fast.

So sorry to hear about this. Luckily NHL has a high success rate in treatment. Sending you and your friend and her family lots of positive thoughts and energy. :grouphug: Keep us informed on how she is doing.

Nordstom's does have great shoes, but I buy shoes so much I try to stick to the discount stores like DSW. I also go the the Nine West outlets a lot because they always have buy 1 get 1 50% off. That way you have to buy 2pairs.

On my 7 night cruise in December my sister and I each brought 10 pairs of shoes. My mom thought we brought too many, but I wore every pair. I actually went home with 11 pairs because my sister didn't want to have an overweight bag at the airport and I just drove home so she gave me a pair. I don't know how many I'll need for 15 nights.

My favorite thing about Nordstrom's is that you can return the shoes even after they have been worn if they don't fit right. There have been a few times that you buy the pair of shoes after wearing them for 4 minutes in the store and they feel great, but after 5 hours in them they are miserable. So, even though they are pricey, it is worth it. As a true shoe addict though, I never turn down a cute pair from any store!

Absolutely!! DH and I are dressed, dinner ready and champagne on ice!! Ready to trash and oooh and ahhh the dresses....

How on earth do any of you get DH to join in the Oscar excitement? Getting them to dress up and watch?! :confused3 Mine whines "Oh No. Not another #&*#( award show. UGH. See you later, I am going on line!"
So, what is the trick?

I was born in 67 - 4 months before Lisa Marie Presley. In elementary school and there were 4 Lisa Marie's in my 3rd grade class.

I'm guessing most of us have either Marie or Ann for a middle name too!

I was born in 65 and I always had at least two Lisa's in my classes. My middle is Ann. For my time, there were more Anns, than Maries because she came a few years after I was born. My DH's sister is also named Lisa Ann...she's 4 months younger than me, so that's always been the joke...it was an easy name for him to remember!

Lisa,

So sorry to hear about your friend. You and she will be in our prayers.

We've been spending the day digging out from the snowstorm. The local forecasters weren't too far off with all their hype this time. We did get hit with 8-10 inches of snow. First there was a layer of ice on everything and then all this wet snow, so the trees are going down all over the place. We lost half of a huge tree in our backyard, which has trapped my van in the garage. I tried to get a picture before DH started up the chainsaw to free the van, but I was too late. Thankfully, DH's truck wasn't in the garage or parked under any trees, so we were able to drive that today. He bought this huge monstrosity of a truck last week, and I have been teasing him about his new toy ever since. Well, I'm eating my words and am very thankful for his four wheel drive truck now.

We haven't lost power, thankfully, although my parents who live about an hour away don't have electricity. I'm hoping they are restored soon, or we will go get them and bring them here to stay. Some parts of the state are supposed to be without electricity for a few days.

It's really beautiful, but I got my workout for today by shoveling our sidewalks.

Thank goodness it didn't hit us as hard as they said it might. We have cleared enough snow and we haven't even come close to you guys.

Game over!

OSU 49, Wisconsin 48 . . .

We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of shoes . . .:rolleyes1

GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Rachel Weisz's dress (I think a Vera Wang) was very Art Deco was pretty gorgeous but the necklace was overkill...

Penelope Cruz's dress was really interesting with all the feathers.

There is a little bit of grumbling with the "monkey suit" as my DH calls it, but he loves a party and does enjoy the award shows as much as my DD and I. All three of the other DH's at the party like to get dressed up! (very strange, I know) My best pals husband really loves clothes and will be wearing his "bond" tux tonight with the white jacket, (he has both black and white tux jackets!)

Some gorgeous dresses so far on the red carpet!! I love the jewels in Rachel Wiesz (sp) dress!!

Off to get glamorous!!

That's exactly what Randolph Duke just said!!

Since this seems to be a very Lisa-ful cruise I will be the "Lisa known as Lisa-daisy" :daisy:
(yes - ANOTHER Lisa and yes my birthday is also during the cruise :cheer2: )

I am going to count the Lisa's and try and post them...If I miss....sorry in adviance.

Alex is going to NEOUCOM (Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine). They have an accelerated program to become an MD, you apply as a senior in High School, and if accepted you go to one of three consortium universities (Alex is at Youngstown State University), you get your undergraduate degree in 2 or 3 years, and as long as you maintain grades, and get at least an average score on the MCAT of 24 (Alex got a 35) you have a guaranteed seat in Medical school. You become a doctor in as few as 6 years - which is what Alex is on track for.

Med School is so LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Heather graduated from High School in 3 years and went to Duke, where with her AP classes and summer graduated in three years. She was 19 when she graduated from Duke!! (She also skipped 1st grade!!). Georgetown, however, was a full 4 years of non stop testing....It seems like she was always studing for one Medical Board or another. I cried last year at her graduation. It was so cool seeing the entire class take the Hypocratic Oath together.....I was thinking this really is the future!! She was the youngest in her class...23 when she graduated in May 06 and turned 24 in November. She is doing 1 year at Fairfax Hospital (large DC area Medical Center.....known for delivering the 2nd most babies each year in the US...after some hospital in Texas) and then off for 3 years at NYU Hospital School of Eyes and Ears (I think that is what it called) ... she will be 27 when she is ready to go get a "real" job.

:rotfl: :rotfl: I know, I know. Sounds ridiculous. Now you can see why DH travels so much. Not too much news in Iowa of national importance, just every 4 years for the political stuff--which has already started here. :scared1: It gets earlier every election. DH has worked for NBC for 20 years, and about 10 years ago, we decided to move home to Iowa to raise our children, be nearer to aging parents, etc. DH always traveled extensively even when we lived in Atlanta and he worked for the bureau there, so we figured he could travel from Iowa just as easily. Anywhoo, he's part of the travel pool for the Whitehouse press corps. Basically goes on all the trips that the DC folks don't want to do, especially when Bush goes to Crawford. They all hate that. :sad2: DH may select his next presidential candidate based on where said new president would be taking his or her vacations. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I bet your husband and I know people in common.

So, now I have to stop because my dog thinks it is important for him to eat, so now I am headed to the $100 store (Costco) so he doesn't starve to death!

I want to know how you get out of Costco on $100.....we call it the :scared1: $300 store :scared1: at our house.... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Oh Lisa I am so sorry......I hate it when life throws curve balls at you. When my DBIL (My DH's oldest brother) was 40 (10 years ago), he was diagnosed with NHL. He was Stage 4....the doctor's did not hold out much hope. They worked wonders and miracles!! Doug often talks to me today about all the new drugs and treatments for NHL. There is a lot of research money going to this cancer and even today it is so much better than it was 10 years ago. My DBIL is still on Chemo today.....1 month a year...4 times....they say it reduces the chances or the cancer coming back. I think it is called Rotuxen??

Please post your friend's name and I will pray for her by name....

You sent your weather to DC. 5am - 7am we got an inch of ice then by noon we had 8" of snow.....now we are getting freezing rain (7pm Sunday Night) I hope they do not cancel schools......

I'm guessing most of us have either Marie or Ann for a middle name too!

I was born in 1957! My middle name is Anne! In 1960, Lisa was the most popular name in America. You never see a baby today with the name of Lisa.

My DH sister and her friends even make their own Academy Award gowns and have a special party. Bond tux is very kewl. My DH has both kinds of tuxes also.

Some gorgeous dresses so far on the red carpet!! I love the jewels in Rachel Wiesz (sp) dress!!

Me too!! Thought the necklace was overkill!!

Really, WOW!! I love flipping through both E and the other channel to watch the different commentary.

Didn't like Cameron Diaz's dress or Jada Pinkett's dress. White one kind of weird cut and yellow/gold on Jada just didn't work. Jada sure has a surly expression on her face when she doesn't realize that camera is on her.

Kelly Preston in her Dolce and Gabana leopard dress, what was she thinking????

Jennifer Hudson in the brown dress with the wings on her shoulder, who dressed her???

Helen Mirren's dress was gorgeous but she is WAY too blonde to wear that color. Her hair, skin and dress blended into one color!!

Loved the blue dress Jodie Foster was wearing. She always has something interesting to say unlike a few of the others interviewed.

:happytv:

I agree, love Jodie Foster(her dress and her).
Didn't like Jennifer Hudson's all. Kirsten Dunst's dress didn't thrill me either.

So far, nothing has wowed me yet.

This is what I come up with:

CALmom - Lisa - 1968
Lakadaisy - Lisa Daisy - ??
LiserAnn - Lisa W - 1965
LisaG520 - Lisa - 1967
disneylover5 - Lisa Anne - 1957

Anyone else I missed?

ps: even though it is not my birthday, I would love to come to a birthday party for the Lisa's...sounds like another good excuse for Palo Brunch!!
