Good morning all. Just caught up on all the posts. Yes, there was a shooting last night about 6:45 p.m. at a mall called Trolley Square here in Salt Lake City. 6 are dead. 5 more in the hospital, 100's traumatized. Newspaper and news reports say that a guy 18 years of age, started shooting out in the parking lot and then entered the mall and just started randomly shooting. Sad thing was the mall was busy at the time because it has many trendy shops and restaurants so many families were out for dinner. Some of the kids on the news that parents were holding were just shaking. The cool thing is the EMT's carry teddy bears on their units and they were handing them out to the kids and you could just see the kids clutching them. As of this morning, the mall is still closed and the whole city block is taped off. No names have been released as of yet, only ages of sex of the victims and injured. Of the 4 in the hospital I think 2 are still critical and 2 are serious. Additionally one woman, 32 weeks pregnant was taken to the hospital, not physically injured, but they were evaluating psychologically.
Sad, sad night. That mall is definitely a tourist attraction as a lot of people go there for the night for dinner and shopping after skiing on the slopes all day. I am sure later today they will be releasing names, etc. Victims were all ages, don't know if we know anyone yet or not. Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with all involved. The shooter was the 6th victim killed by the police (luckily an off duty police officer was in the mall and had a gun with him or there would have been more killed). That's all the info I have read or seen on the news at this point.

I'm thinking from what the press said that there will be a news conference sometime mid morning today.

Things have gotten so scary, a simple trip to the mall. It's so sad. The families are in my prayers.

You have a sweet boy! Keep him!

I agree! ;) Here's a pic of what he gave me. Nothing fancy, just a bunch of stuff glued together with heart stickers, but it was the way he did it (put all his little heart into it, I could just see it on his face) that makes it sweet! Plus he cut out and glued on ALL his leftover valentines and didn't save any for himself like he originally wanted to! Kids are so sweet at this age!

My DD's teacher just lost his dad. I would normally know what to do but this is the first time we have ever had a male teacher. He has to fly to NY and won't be back for a couple of days so I am going to hold back on the Valentine fudge I usually make. Does anyone have any ideas what we can do to let him know that we are thinking of him for when he gets back.

I think a ncie card and fudge would be great.

I'll make an exception to the Mit-Yooper rule, we'll adopt him. :)

Thanks it is hard to know how men grieve sometimes.

Cute story to share! I got my valentine a day early! What made it even more surprising is that I didn't expect my 4yr old to think about doing one. After we finished writing names on the ones he's taking to day care tomorrow, he had a few leftovers. He told me he's thinking of a special valentine he can make for somebody else in our valentine, but that I can't watch him because I don't know who it's for and it has to be a surprise. He made sure I sat with my back to everything he was doing. He got his glue stick, leftover heart stickers from the valentines, leftover valentines, a piece of light grey construction paper, and a smaller piece of pink construction paper. Made a creation and asked, "Mom, how do you spell your name?" Wrote in his illegible writing "Tyler Mom" (all runs together) and told me with a HUGE smile on his face (and arm around me), "I made this for you. Happy Valentine's Day! It says from Tyler to Mom."

Just melts your heart, doesn't it?!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Calmom: I just adore the photo of you and your guys on the website. Where did you get the tuxes for the boys? We just did dark suits on the last cruise, but with this one I'm thinking about tuxes.

Have absolutely nothing against cute men in uniform -- my DS is one of them. :goodvibes

Which university are you going to? I went to U of T -- too many years ago now. DS goes to York.

Fiona

I work at U of T. Went there too. Dm, not going on the cruise, also works there.

I am not the one you asked but we have a bridal store here in TN where I live that has boys white tuxes for $50 - we bought a size 12 so my son could wear it a couple of times - it was big on him this past April but we had it hemmed so he can wear it for 2 years. I will have to find a picture of him in it. I will be glad to check on sizes for anyone who might not be able to get them this cheap. It came with the "tails" jacket, cumberbum, pants and bow tie.

Got to love EBAY! Actually, only two of them were hand-me downs from previous cruises that I got from Ebay, not sure of the seller. The two new ones I got (for my oldest and youngest) I got from Little Market - much better quality than what I got on Ebay. I would recommend - price is $45 for toddler/$50 for boys up to size 20

Thanks for the compliment. Trying to get them all decked out is quite the feat. I will post one of just the boys in their captain outfits later! Lisa

I have my "normal" boring dominoes that go to 15.

But....I also have my fun, exciting Mickey Dominoes! Got them last month on clearance at Character Warehouse in Orlando. Now someone is going to ask, how much did you pay? I don't remember. But I'll be in Orlando for 24 hours on March 3 and would be happy to check if anyone is interested in a set or two. (If I can find my receipt at home, I'll let you know what they cost.)

Count me in! They are worth the price!

I loved Xmen and I hear "Woverine" with Hugh Jackman will go into production at the end of 2007. Wonder if Patrick Stewart will appear?

I love the end of XMen3 when it shows what might be coming...
