I'm still around, reading a trip report, cooking and eating a nice high proetin breakfast and looking for more ways to procrastinate on my taxes. You know, what's the big deal...they take about two hours? :confused3 (love Turbo Tax) Maybe I'll go iron something................

.

I know how you feel on the taxes, I know I am writing a check so I am procrastinating very badly.

We HATE tax time. It has been years since we had some sort of refund. I don't even want to think about it....very depressing! Lisa

All I can say is what an idiot. Not so much for being an entrepreneur, but for almost causing fist fights in his quest to make a buck. I bet he also ruined it for people who just wanted a keepsake of their trip. Glad I wasn't around to see that!

Glad I wasn't around to grab the T-shirts out of his arms ! Maybe I would have stayed in Mexico awhile too. ??? :lmao: :cool1:

Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

I was supposed to attend additional WW leader training today from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM which is really poopy considering my meetings ended at 12:30 PM. The thought of driving back for training! Yuck!

BUT, I just received a call. A bunch of people cancelled out of attending and the training is CANCELLED. I am off the hook the rest of the day is my own!!

Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

No kidding. I love it. People are getting tired of my countdown at work but that is just too bad because I am going to enjoy every minute of my planning and vacation time.

My Admin Asst does a listing of my meetings each day and at the bottom she has a picture of a cruise ship and how many days we have left until we are on vacation. I love it.

DH and I both have our chuff charts at work. They have a countdown calendar on, and pictures of where we're going etc, and we cross a day off each day. Usually I only make them for a month ahead, but this time I did them starting last Monday, so 6 weeks until we finish work. (We both finish on May 1st as we have a bank holiday on Mon 5th.)

Chuff chart is a military term, usually a countdown to when you're leaving somewhere you don't want to be.

The plans are set, but I don't know them all yet. I am flying from Portland to Spokane Wed after work. Short 1 hr flight that will save me a long 6 - 7 hr drive. Thursday I will get hooked up with my uncle and we will fly to Philadelphia, We return Sunday and don't get into Spokane until 10:30, so I will not be flying back to Portland until Monday morning. I do not know where we are staying. My cousins wife's sister is making all the travel arrangements. I am a bit anxious with that. Control freak.... My uncle said "they" will meet us at the airport. Not sure who "they" are, likely my cousins wife and/or her sis I would think. The Portland to Spokane and back piece are all I scheduled myself. I would have gotten us on an earlier flight on Sunday if I had a choice. My uncle is 82 and I am sure that he will be really tired by 11 at night. I will be staying with a very good friend of DrHug and I in Spokane the night before and night after the flight. My uncle will stay with me the night after as well. He said he will get all the info by mail either today or Monday so I will know where I am staying etc then. I will feel better knowing more. Thanks for thinking of me.

Angie. I hope all goes well.

I don't know yet when my DBro's funeral will be, most likely this next week or perhaps the week after. I'm hoping to hear tomorrow so that I can make our travel arrangements.

Ian, I think the 802.11n Macs came out about a year ago. My Macbook will be two this May (bought when they were first released) it is 802.11g, and a Core duo (not Core 2). The thing to keep in mind is that the network will only run as fast as the slowest device connected to it. If any of your Macs are 802.11g, when they are connected, the router will slow to that speed to accommodate them - likewise with Mrs. Bennett.

I just looked this up on the Chumby site:

Wireless router. The chumby is compatible with most wireless routers with the settings of 802.11g/ 802.11b (or mixed). Most routers currently sold offer these settings. Routers that mention 802.11n may work with the chumby as long as they properly support 802.11g or 802.11b.

So the Chumby is 802.11g. This makes your network run at this speed, as the network will run at the speed of the slowest device connected to it. The Apple tech you spoke with may not have been thinking about this when he had you take down your Airport Express repeaters.

So what does this all mean to you? If you are using the network just to access the internet, you are fine, as 802.11g is as fast as any commercially available internet connection that a consumer would use. In other words, you would not see any speed difference between n or g based solely on an internet connection.

Where speed would make a difference would be if you are using the network to transfer files or back up. If you are using Time Machine over the network for your backups with a Time Capsule configuration, it is going to run at the g speed, taking you twice as long to do those backups.

There is a way to solve this if you want to. You could buy a cheap wired router at Best Buy or Circuit City, and have it connected directly to your internet connection. Then run Ethernet to your new base station for it's connection to the internet, and another ethernet to an Airport Express for a separate connection to the internet. Establish two unique wireless networks - one on each. You would then have Mrs. Bennett connect to the Airport Express (along with any other 802.11g devices) and have your 802.11n computers connected to the 802.11n network with the new base station. This is similar to my setup here at home. You can use your other AE as a repeater for the g network.

John, that is a brilliant idea! I had not considered setting up separate networks and having cheapo router basically serving up the Internet connection to each. That would solve quite a few problems and extend the network with the proper speed based on each device.

I'm sure Mrs. Bennett will be thrilled.

There are more wireless devices in this house than you can shake a stick at:

  1. G5 iMac
  2. G4 iBook
  3. Intel Duo Core iMac
  4. Mrs. Bennett
  5. Playstation 3
  6. Wii
Like Sukie said, pretty soon if our network goes down, the toilet won't flush!

Maybe later I'll stop in at Circut City or Best Buy (or via Amazon, even better no sales tax) and get another wireless router.

I do have to share something funny about our wireless network. I can see all of my neighbors wireless networks, which of course are all secured. I am sure they can see ours as well. I'm also sure that they're baffled.

Their networks are called things like "Nancy's Network." Our Airport network is called "O'Hare International" when the Airport expresses were connected they were called "Terminal 5 International Arrivals." "Terminal 1 United Airlines," and "Remote Parking."

Thanks again John. Pretty soon after all these routers are going, Sukie and I may start glowing in the dark.

PJ....a while back you posted a pic and a link to multi outlet thing that you plug in and get a bunch more things to plug in. Am I making any sense? I thought I bookmarked it but found out that I did not. I asked John about it today and he said we definitely need one. Is there any chance that you can recall a link to get me there? There's no way I would find it going back through all these threads. Thanks either way!

I'm starting to stress :worried: I have nothing for tropical, mexican or pirate night.

Kathe

Don't stress - it's a vacation. ;)

I've decided I haven't a hope of having anything special for those nights. Just finding something suitable to wear each night for dinner is enough of a problem.

I shall simply enjoy looking at what everyone else is wearing on the special nights. :)

It is somewhat of a goofy picture, but you can get the idea of the outfits -

Thanks for the tip on Hartstrings...they look great! Lisa

Love the pix! Brent has the all white one.

Deb, I am hoping that it will be available in time for the cruise. I put an order in for stock at the store and will buy it the first day it arrives, fingers are crossed. Although they have had product that stays at arriving soon status for months, agh!

I check pricegrabber, and it seems that Dell is the only company with stock, I would call and ensure they actually have it, before ordering.

John, I agree.

I heard the near fist fights were with dads wanting to buy t-shirts for their kids, while this guy was wiping out Mickey's Mates.

He also scooped up all the desirable rack pins by using an empty wheelchair to block access by others. He then used pillow cases to grab everything.

Later, he and his buddies would hog up the computers in the Promenade Lounge, posting the stuff on eBay. At the time, DCL offered an unlimited internet package, and people complained they couldn't get on a computer to contact family at home. (I believe this was just before DCL offered Wi-Fi.)

This all probably fed the frenzy to get a keepsake -- and people sleeping in the Atrium just for a pin.

John - if this happened on your cruise, would you sleep in the Atrium to get a souvenir for Sophia?

If someone asked if I would spend five hours in the middle of the night trying to get a Palo reservation, I would say, No. But I did. It all looks different when you're not in the middle of it.

Woody

On one hand, I wonder why DCL allowed this to happen. On the other hand, I don't suppose it was something they'd ever considered a possibility.

Do you think they will now have procedures in place to stop it happening again? For instance, limiting how many of the special items someone could buy at the same time? I know someone has said about an order form for pins, but that wouldn't cover things like t-shirts.

How could anyone be so mean and un-Disney? Makes me wonder if he actually had any interest in the cruise for itself, or only to make money from the merchandise.

I think some trip report have said that they have included special items other then pins on some of the special cruises, I am I remembering wrong?

As you are spending the day at DL
