Believe that is the area around the old pirate ship that was the Star Kist restaurant. It has been a day or two agoso I may be incorrect, but think the ship had something to do with Star Kist Tuna.
Doug
Ken,
They even have the same color hair in the same order of age. Cool.![]()
wow Dr. Hug, that made me teary eyed!
Can my DH join in the swapping of stories? He served 23 years in the RAF. (I only served a couple of years - "5 minutes" according to DH - I left when we got married, so don't have the same range of stories to swap!)
Do you have the saying, "Pull up a sandbag"? That's what we say when it's going to be a story swapping session.
I missed most of the conversation but just have to put my two cents in. I have always - even as a little kid been so conscious of the military that I think in part is what influenced me to go. I only served 3 yrs in the Army but in that time, I was overwhelmed with feelings and an utter respect to ALL persons serving in any military - as today it seems to be mostly voluntary.
While I missed the first Operation Desert Storm - I still had my baby brother go there and we had to live through that. So now, I try to voice it -don't always succeed as I get too choked up sometimes -by I have so much respect for those that can reach out to others and say thank you. I still feel we can learn a lot from others and I thank those of you who have shared your stories.
I was thanked for the first time for my service (which I didn't feel particulary worthy of - after all - I didn't do anything) but this lady I bowled with felt it necessary and the pride I felt afterward was the best high I ever had. Had to admit - I was dumbstruck - didn't think anyone cared anymore. Its is definitely a moment to experience. You pause and then you realize - there are people out there who still care. Like I said - the best high ever!
Sorry -just had to comment.![]()
I was an officer with the USAF too - made it to Major! I think this is why I went back as a contracted employee - I truly enjoy helping our troops. Trust me, Luke AFB is a fighter pilot training base, and, well, let's just say I see at least 6 patients a day. It is very rewarding.
Thanks for thgat one Marilyn. Cool Dude!Phew, all those pages on the old thread and I couldn't reply to any of them!!!
Lisa,You must be shattered physically and emotionally.

I think you are right. I remember it, but I can't remember when they took it out. It was there for a long time. Kind of a little snack bar. It was somewhere near the House of the Future exhibit, I think. Wow. And I thought I would never forget the old place. So many changes over a lot of years. I remember the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train. I always liked that. And when there were live girls as Mermaids, in the submarine lagoon. The Indian Village. The old boat rides, which were like a Boatopia.
DH was registered as well. In North Carolina he was a "DoDad". As in Dad do this Dad do that. He loved camping with the girls. Some of our best trips were when the dads were with.
Way to go with Junior Jam!!!. Most troops in our area don't camp and the girls have no idea about fundamental camping skills. It so sad.
And you just got me chocked up...again! (you would think I would get immune to this since I work with/for veterans every day!) Now I do have to comment on your statement that you did not do anything. ALL those who serve do something great. If you serve in a time when there is no war, you still are there, defending the gates and are prepared to go where needed at a moments notice. You give up family gatherings, weddings, funerals, births, etc, etc, etc in order to be prepared to serve when/where needed. Those who serve during wartime, but do not go into a combat theater still are doing their part. Without the shipment of the beans and bullets the army cannot survive. Ok, off my soapbox. And thank YOU for your service also.

Ladies and Gentleman, ALL members, former members, family members and guests of those who served in one of the respective services in the defense of world peace and freedom, no matter what rank (and some of us were fairly rank especially after a 2 week FTX (Field Training Exercise)) are cordially invited to spend some time during an afternoon at sea in the Diversion's pub and "Pull up a Sandbag or the Hood of a Jeep, or a Plank of the Deck, or a Wingtip" to discuss fallen comrades, quirky stories, and supposed heroic accomplishments over beverages of choice. Uniforms will not be required and the only saluting allowed will be with a glass in hand. I ask our calendaring Adjutant to see if there is a time that can be recommended for this Roll Call?![]()

DoDad huh! Cool. Now why didn't we think of that. I like it. I was one of the first Dad's to take part in our area, but soon we had quite a few, and I was sooooo glad.It was kinda scary being the only guy in a camp with a bazillion women.
funny last night on my way to my room to watch my movie, I stopped to get my last few pieces of Sees..the box was very light...Paul ate all but oneMan I hate that
But he now owes me a replacement box

Wow, I don't blame you 'cause I would hate that too. I love See's I think Angie sghould tell the story about how she ate 5 pounds in one day.

My brother works as a receiver at CVS (well Sav-ons back then) he gave me a 10-lb candy bar of Hersheys Chocolate bar - this was way back about 20 years ago - DH and I had just started dating. Well, I gave it to him on Friday night - arrived late Saturday night and it was about 1/4 gone. Got there Sunday night and it was gone!![]()
I didn't even get a taste!![]()
I am so sorry this is happening to him. Of course prayers for your family. Please keep us posted. What is his first name?![]()
