Holly, One of Daniel's eardrums did not develop until he was 6 years old. His was so bad, that he could hardly speak. Once it developed, his speech came right along. Hopefully, Tyler's will come along with age.

Yes, Holly, my brother had a lot of problems too. He got held back a year in school before they discovered he had hearing problems. The hearing problem affected his speech and his behaviour. He acted out in class (he was the class clown:upsidedow :teacher: ) because he couldn't hear clearly. He also had some problems with eyesight. Once the problem was identified and he got help, he was so much better. Tyler's so lucky that he has you looking out for him and will get help early on :goodvibes

To Katypop and taysmom --

Before our original thread was "hidden," we were posting about meeting at Epcot the day before the cruise.

DW and I will be there Friday 5/9, and hope to see some of the International Garden and Flower Festival. Perhaps we could meet for lunch, or just a brief meet and greet. Looking forward to meeting you in person before the cruise!

Anyone else going to Epcot on Friday?

Woody

We're going to play it by ear. I'd love to say yes to a meet, but it's my dd's 1st time at WDW and my 1st time in 20years! We have alot of ground to cover in 2 days. I was looking at the hours of operation and am very dissappointed that the parks are not open later. The earliest is 9am and latest is 9pm. I've been very spoiled by CA as even disneyland is open until 10 during the low times! Geez, were going down to disney in March and they are open until midnight...wdw isn't. I find that odd!

Steph

Not sure if you guys got the info before the other thread went down... we have the big main DIS meet at Down Town Disney at the stage across from the big World of Disney store at 4:30.... Lanyards and such will be given out there... & ghiardelli is righ across from there!!!

So now guess what's happened. Poor Tyler just can't get a break. I shared this with Jan last night, but not here yet. It's not life threatening, but on top of everything else going on with Tyler at once, it just doesn't seem fair.

OK...I think I mentioned a while back that we found out that his vision has completely shifted in the last year from being very farsighted to very nearsighted, and we're waiting for his new lenses to come in. But wait, there's more. Towards the end of the week, I got a voice mail from the occupational therapist at Tyler's school telling me she's been evaluating him and strongly recommends private occupational therapy (in addition to the help they can give him at school) because he's very far behind on his fine motor skills and it has a major effect on trying to write, obviously. OK...his dad and I will work that out, she recommended some places locally (in a letter she sent home that day), we can take care of that.

But wait, there's more. Yesterday I got a letter from the county health department telling me they did THREE hearing tests on Tyler, one a week for three weeks (the multiples were to verify the poor readings), and he has a significant lack of hearing in his right ear. Like I said, not life threatening, but yet another trip to the doctor for follow up.

No wonder he's so frustrated when almost nothing works right on his body. :sad1: I know it could be worse...because he is VERY healthy..doesn't even get colds almost every (one a year at most), but so many things shouldn't be going wrong all at once.

I'm going to do my best, to make sure he has an awesome time on this cruise because he sure does deserve it with all this crap being thrown at him.

Holly,

The issues sound overwhelming, but the good thing is that Tyler will be getting help he needs. One of my favorite quotes by Albert Einstein (forgive me if I am repeating it) is that "In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity". Hopefully the discovery of all these difficulties gives Tyler the opportunity for a better tomorrow!

Here is what is available today on DCL for our cruise....

Think we could find this in pink for the Champagne Girls mascot??

(not exactly a champagne class, but closest thing I found)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Just imagine the look of the rest of the cruisers!!!!

I just got home....been running errands all day today. I found out my dog now weighs 90 lbs at a year old. She went to the vet today to get weighed for her monthly meds. She takes Interceptol for a heart wormer and Frontline for a flea and tick medicine....I can't believe she's 90 lbs and still a puppy.

Is she the beautiful puppy that you posted about almost a year ago?

Oh yea, I got our DCL package today too. Same as it always is, nothing new.....but DCL and they said happy you're sailing with us again....I said me too!!!

:lmao:

I've got to call John (from another room) in a minute to come and wrap my legs. We didn't do it for about a week and the edema came back and the right one started leaking again and it started to look like the cellulitus infection was going to come back.....so we wrapped it with the medicine again last night and it's much better today, but it needs to get wrapped again with the medicine.....just to make sure it doesn't come back. I have to be so careful because it can come back so easily......again and again.

Oh no! I didn´t know that you had been in the hospital. Do take care. My dad has had the cellulitis infection and he says it HURTS. I hope wrapping your legs helps.

The one that Noel recommended.....Golden West Express.

Do you have a link for them?

Guess what??

We brought Frank home from the hospital today!! He has been getting stronger every day since his last set back 12 days ago!!

The rehab people will come by 3 times a week and we will help him get outside to walk some.

Everyday he gets better and better.

Such a relief!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Wow Lisa, what great news! I can't believe he has improved so fast that he is actually able to go home with you:goodvibes I know he's been sick for a long time, but it wasn't too many days ago that he was still so sick...so glad things are improving:goodvibes

I have to ask this, and I am hoping no one takes offense, but my curiosity is just getting the better of me . . .

As a public school board member, I have to ask are the public schools in California or in this area so bad that someone is willing to pay what can amount to college tuition to send their children to school? I am just shocked by the expense, and wonder how it can be justified by those schools.

Private parochial school here is probably about 6k a year, and private non-denominational school is probably about 8k a year from what I am aware of. While there are some private schools that I know of in the vicinity that may be this expensive, they are private boarding schools, and there are just a handful in NE Ohio. I know of one only because the owner of our business sent one of his sons there.

I know we all want the best for our kids, and want to make sure that they have every opportunity we each can afford. My own experience has been that a good public school with involved parents provides a solid educational foundation for any future a child may wish to pursue.

John it was very common when I lived in NJ for both school budgets to range @ $17,000 per student per year... we also had a great disparagy (sp?) between the inner city schools and the suburban ones.

Many people in that area also put their kids in schools whether they could afford them or not. It was the same with the housing... they'd buy a million dollar home for 3 people but couldn't afford to heat it...

I think part of it is social standing in their own minds. I went public all the way through and didn't go to anything more than a state college and gee... I seem to be doing just fine.

Found this on the Main DCl Forum

note the reference to bringing back the threads "in some form" hmmmmmm

Small update from Webmaster Alex:

Quote:
We are still evaluating the effects of the test. We were surprised by the amount of difference that it made in board performance and we need to make some decisions regarding the best way to deal with this. You can reassure everyone that we will be bringing back the posts from the "hidden" threads in some form, that information will not be lost

Hi,

I am looking for a travel container for DH's razor. He uses a Gillette Mach 3. The one container I have doesn't fit this razor.Anyone else have one?

Cork

I just take the razor off of mine, and drop the handle in my toiletry kit. Once the trip starts, I put in a new blade.

Oh, thank you! I did miss this, sounds like this will be a busy day, good thing I've got a cruise planned to relax a little:hippie: :lmao:

Thanks, Gydell:goodvibes I keep thinking each year will be a little easier, but of course we will never stop missing him.
Kathe

Keep remembering all the good shared times you had and it might help, knowing that you were fortunate enought to have had them with him. Hold him close to your heart, never forget and know that you are still here and have to move on, but that you will be together again one day.

I don't think that it will ever get any easier, no matter how long it is. Hugs to you Kathe and much love!

I can't get our tv to channel today. It's stuck on HGTV. :confused3: I think we may need some new batteries for the remote. No triple A's to be found around the house today. :sad2:

Angie, can you walk to it?

John is looking for a taco costume for mexican night.

You mean like this?

Ok c'mon you can't all be sleeping can you? I really don't think I have seen such downtime on the thread. I suppose people sleep in on Saturdays. Me well I have things to do and had no time for a long beauty nap. Scouts meeting in the morning. Gonna give a little talk about recycling and then brainstorm for thinking day. Oh hey Nan what country is your troop doing? We have Ireland this year. Works for me as I am part Irish. :thumbsup2

We aren't focusing on a specific country, we go to a Thinking Day event every year that a troop in our SU troop puts on. So we get to enjoy their hard work and get the benefit with out the effort on our own, just sit back and soak up the info. The event this year is called around the world in 12 minutes, so who knows what we will be seeing and doing :rolleyes1

WOW Lisa, that's the best news I have heard in weeks!!! YEA that Frank is doing so much better. YEA for you and Don and the family for being so strong and sticking it out with him despite pure exhaustion. Now you can reap your rewards having him home and gaining strength and health again. That's such great news!
