This prompts me to ask a new Question of the Day!
What would it take from DCL to get you to give up your stateroom on this cruise?

Now we know, it would have to be some kind of alternate cruise (no cash!). .....discuss........mini lunch break over....back to work!

A few months ago, I might have considered an offer. Now, having talked with all of you and sweated the FISH episode together, I wouldn't consider an offer at all. We are so looking forward to this trip!!!!

There's nothing I can think of that they would reasonably offer. After a year of anticipation, I can't imagine missing this cruise!

Just had a wonderful surprise. We are going to be taken to Club 33 for dinner on the evening of May 25th!!!:hyper:

WOW! :thumbsup2

I flew on Sept 10 to St. Louis for a conference. I was on the planning committee so came in a day early. Needless to say most attendees did not make it in. I could not get home until Sunday. Life changing day for us. Since then Dennis and I have never been further apart than we can drive. If I traveled for work, he took time off and we paid for him to go along. We had several fun trips after that, Clearwater, FL, Indianapolis and one to Washington DC where Dennis had not yet visited. The lesson we learned is that anything is ok if we are together, but being separated and not knowing when we would be reunited or what would happen in the meantime was not ok.

:lovestruc You and Dr. Hug make me believe in love!

The eeriest part was the days after when you went past the train stations in town and all the cars were still left... you knew that they belonged to people who weren't coming home.

I shivered when I read that. It had never occurred to me.

I had a friend who was traveling on 9/11 and got stranded somewhere in the midwest. He called me. He'd been calling everyone he could. I felt so sorry for him, being stranded so far from home at such a scary time.

I was teaching then, and of course had to go to school that day (elementary school). Looking back, it was so surreal. I think all the adults were aware of trying to keep routines and things as normal as possible to help the kids feel safe, yet every chance I had I was checking the news or radio. The school was being reroofed and all day long the workers were POUNDING and BANGING--sometimes the walls would shake. As if everyone wasn't on edge enough...

Thanks everyone for the info regarding the Disney Visa rewards card. I think I'll order it now and then add any points that come up between now and our cruise.

It was very surreal. My BIL was late for a meeting that day...the meeting was on the 88th floor of one of the towers. He's always on time, to an annoying point. He made tea before leaving, the milk curdled. For some reason he opted to be late and remake it (so out of character). The second plane hit as he got off the subway which was at the base of one of the towers...he was 15 minutes late. He looked up and at the moment of impact he said it was awful. Explosion, papers flying and other horrific details that can be left behind. He took off running for eleven blocks before he stopped to look back. In the end, everyone at his meeting was gone, along with a huge portion of the employees at his company. He had surviors guilt and was majorly promoted shortly afterwards, due to all the loss. He ended up going to counseling for about a year. Bottom line, the curdled milk saved his life....

I honestly believe that if it's not your time to go then you won't. And if it is, then nothing will stop it from happening.

I just got an email from ****** (not sure why, they're not my TA). It said effective for sailing 7/1/08 and later, DCL is increasing their port fees for Mexican ports by $5 per port. This includes the EB sailing. It's nominal, but I found it interesting, and of course, it doesn't apply to us!

Was anyone on here actually flying on 9/11 day? I was on an international flight from Australia to Vancouver that day, it happened when we were in the air. Once we landed in Vancouver, we had to wait 5 hours on the plane, as they were searching each plane before they allowed us to get off. Then our luggage was unaccessible, and I was stranded in Vancouver for 2 nights, as no flights were leaving. All hotels were taken so I was adopted by some girls in their mid 20s who came to the airport to offer their home for stranded travelers.

It was a nightmare, long lines, people crying all over the airport, phones tied up for ages. I was pregnant at the time (and traveling alone) and ended up fainting in line to check in the day they started flying again. Of course, all flights were booked solid out of there but you should have seen the people jump around once I passed out. They put me on the first available flight out (bumped someone else) and I got to wait in the VIP area with personal service and all.

It was a memorable experience for sure, one I would not like to repeat. And I look at these regulations in place now and while they are a pain, I still vividly remember being at the airport and on the plane that day, wondering if our flight would be the next one hit. . .

Just my 2 cents.

Jolene

Wow that is a very vivid memory you will always carry with you. I know that I understand the regulations and do not mind adhering to them at all. The only problem I find with the system is some airports will have workers who are on apparent power trips.

I have had a worker take an item and basically taunt me saying "well sweetie do you want to get on your flight or do you want to sit here and play with your make up". The line behind me was huge and rather then fight it and fear being labeled forever I watched her smile at me as she tossed it in the garbage. This was an Orlando screener. The same item had just made it through screening a week earlier in San Francisco. It was a small (not full sized) mascara. It was rather stupid I thought but oh well I understand the reason for the extra scrutiny but the rules need better execution.

I am also not sure if it is the spelling of my name or what but I have been pulled for the additional screening every time I have flown since 9/11. I must have pissed someone somewhere off. :confused3

No idea sorry. Ivanova didn't reply to my last PM. I think they have finished with the Dis.

Finished with the Dis????? What the heck? Can that be done? This cruise is my version of summer camp for me. Meeting new friends from all over and becoming really close and best friends in a very close and intense setting. I will be so sad when this cruise is done and when the thread dies down and we all move on to other cruises and new memories. :sad1:

Wow - I hope your BIL is doing fine now. And for you - this must have been too scary. I have come in at the back end of this conversation but I am glad for all the telling. I think this is something that must not ever be forgotten and the best part is hearing and therefore confirming that but for a twist of fate (ie - curdled milk) you are still here to spend time with others. Its always best to listen to that little voice inside of you that tells you - stop and smell the roses. Plus its also nice to hear the awesome stories of human kindness extended to others in time of need.

I had heard of a town in Newfoundland where many of the people ended up housing complete strangers but never really heard of anyone - I was starting to wonder if it had been made up.

Thank you all for sharing - restores my faith in human kindness.

But it does for me :sad2: Oh well, one of the pitfalls of travelling. 'Sides - I look at it this way - if I didn't pay it here - I'd pay it offshore someplace. But thank God its only 3 stops so far.

Quite a big day for me ... I ordered the tuxes! Actually I ordered mix 'n match ensembles. I got a set of tails, a black vest (waistcoat for our UK friends. I wouldn't want you to be thinking t-shirt) and also a white dinner jacket.

That way we can switch off between the tails and the white dinner jacket.

It was considerably cheaper than renting. Of course I haven't seen any it yet. Who knows, I might end up looking like Ricky Ricardo.

I ordered it from Tuxxman, who was recommended to me here on this thread.

I guess I'm going to have to go and buy shoes to go with the tuxedo. One wears patent leather with a tux, right? Yeah, like I'm going to have lots of occasions to wear patent leather shoes ... What am I saying? As if I'm going to have lots of occasions to wear tails or a white dinner jacket again.

Then again, you never know. Baby June may be making a come back. Perhaps I could team up with her to make it a double-act.

Maybe I'll just wear flip flops with the tux.

Or, even better, sandals .... with white socks!

On a completely different note - I had 14 new users register their Mouse Manager today! What was especially odd was that 12 of them were from the UK.

Ian... we're going to have to talk sizes... I might like to borrow the tux jacket and do a Judy Garland look....

;)

I am on the blackberry at the hospital. Frank had surgery today and is resting. I am so far behind I just went to the last page and started reading

9-11...not sure how this conversation started, but living in DC, we had this really touch our lives here. We lost 3 friends in the Pentagon, including one friend from church. That funeral was very difficult.

One of my friends had one child in each of the twin towers in NY and her husband worked at the Pentagon. All three survived.

I remember I was watching Gretchen riding a bike about 5 days after the attack. We live about 5 miles from Dulles Airport and 20 miles from National airport. They were going to open airports but not National...which is so close to the White House, Capitol etc. All of a sudden the air was full of airplanes and after not seeing airplanes for several days, it was weird and at that time planes were still not in the air. We looked up and could see 30 airplanes. The were so low, we thought that there was another attack.VERY scarey. Turns out they were just flying the planes 20 miles from National which was not opening to Dulles which was opening. They wanted to get the planes out of National as they knew it was not going to open.

V, I hope you don't mind but I've been wanting to play with a new technique in PSE that I learned to do selective colouring.

I saw this pic and just had to give it a try.

Here are the results:

I hope you like it.

I am loving your pics! Hope you are enjoying the new camera!

I love this! I will have to look about how to do it. I have PSE too.

Good morning all, we are sending sunshine and wind your way across the coutnry! I'm off the teach this morning.

I may have her email and I know I have her home address, send me a note you want to send her and I'll print it and mail it.

Gydell, remind me what you need and I'll send one from DL this week. I have your address for the maps here.

I wil give her a few days to respond to my pm. If I don't hear fromn here I will pm you.

Exactly my point Marilyn.....we need a new volunteer main contact person who will have the master list......LiserAnn do you want to be that person in place of Noel. Do you have an assigned room number yourself? If you do we could make you our contact person, if you don't mind.

I thought we were having floor captains. Each floor would have aa person with a dry erase board with up dates. Are we still doing this or I could have imagined it.:goodvibes We have had our room number since day one. I booked in the first 15minutes.:woohoo:
