You all probably already know this, but the History channel website has some videos on line about the Panama Canal. Go to the Video Gallery. Search show Guts & Bolts.

There are three. Only 5 to 7 minutes long.

Just now was able to change my excursion time for the Outdoor Adventure to the 8:00 am time , Monica, this is when you and everyone else is doing this, right:confused: Sorry, I've lost track...you know the story...trying to keep up but  In any case, looks like I'll have a very early morning that day! Just as well, don't want to be too wide awake or I might chicken out :scared1:
I'm off to bed, start work again in less than 8 hrs, so must get some sleep. Night all :)

Kathe

Hi Kathe - so glad you got that OA time! It's a party! We'll all take turns holding hands and pushing the other off the platform.

PM sent (and to taysmom and nskjerven too).WELCOME!*.

Jackie is the greatest LOST interpreter ever! If I didn't know better I would think she has ties with ABC not NBC:lmao: :goodvibes I already told her I was coming over next week (ok, I really can't since it would be a bit silly to fly to AZ just to watch a tv show, but it would be fun! ) to watch it with her so she could help me figure out all the parts I miss!!!!

I was thinking about the two ideas for kids that I already posted on, and had an idea . . . I am not a Powerpoint expert, or even regular user, but was wondering . . .

What if all the kids did a Powerpoint page (or pages) about themselves BEFORE the cruise. Where they live, their family, pets, etc. . . . and then combine all of those pages into one presentation that the kids could keep as a reminder of all the kids they met and friends they made.

I think someone would have to come up with a beginning and an ending, and maybe to make it easier and make it flow better a template page or pages for the information to be entered. That would help make it maybe a bit consistent. Then someone with a computer on board could put it all together (or maybe pages could be emailed to the person combining before the cruise) and then the file could be posted for sharing.

You heavy duty Powerpoint users . . . is this a plausible idea? Is there perhaps a better solution? I would be willing to do whatever, but remember, I am a Mac user (I do have PP on the Mac), and have used PP on the PC maybe ONCE in Office '97. I also have Keynote on the Mac, which I think makes pages that are compatible with Powerpoint.

This episode is on Itunes for $1.99, I bought this and the Ocean Liners episode, love them. History Channel, Modern Marvels. Also the Episode from Extreme Engineering called Widening the Panama Canal. All can be watched right on your computer, no need for an ipod.

Panama Canal

Ocean Liners

Extreme Engineering's Widening the Panama Canal

There is even a kids song about the canal, do a search for Panama Canal and it will come up.
Pj

DUH! . . . Glad I read this PJ . . . now with my NEW and IMPROVED Apple TV, I can get this show! And for only $1.99! Why didn't I think of this!

Join in. They (your boys) will like ours on the Panama Canal Day for sure. Lisa could answer this of course, but I bet some are nickknacks, others are paddywacks and an occasional bone.
Just join. If it's junk throw it out when you get home.

Nan- very funny!!

Steve - you could always leave what you don't want to keep/take home as a gift for your stateroom host/ess.

Sophia stayed home sick from school yesterday, but today is one of her best friend's BD party . . . so I am loading her up with Tylenol, because not going is not an option.

There was an article in our paper today. Most snowfall in February on record. Yes, this has been a snowy year, and yes, you probably get as much in a day Ken!

Maybe catch up later.

John, I think that would be pretty easy to do. I use powerpoint pretty regularly to prepare my class lectures, but I always do the whole thing on one computer...so the only part I don't know about is how much time it will take to add a bunch of pages to one report. I will have my computer on board and it does have powerpoint. I wonder if people can email me that page ahead of time so I can come onboard with that portion already prepared? John, if it was done in powerpoint...would Sophia have the ability to open and use it since it isn't your program of choice?

I previously posted about an excellent History Channel DVD "Modern Marvels, Panama Canal." It's done quite well and is very insightful. Panama Canal DVD

Thanks once again for the link! I didn't use it the first time I saw it . . .

Flash forward to this morning. Trying to find where I left off before, I find the post thanking Woody. OK, I am just going to have to spend the $25. I click on the link and finds that it leads me to the A&E store where it is ON SALE!!! DUH! $10.17 Clearance priced even!

So, thanks again for the link!
You're quite welcome, Kathy. The Panama Canal DVD has been on sale for $10 since the first time I posted the link.

We watched the DVD twice, and plan to watch it again before the cruise. It's very informative with many historical photos and film clips.

PJ...thank you!!! Jaide has the only video iPod in the family, so it works perfectly for her to have it! Just finished downloading it! I need to remember to look at iTunes more often

Hubby went in yesterday and got his first Hep A&B combo shot and his tetanus booster. I didn't realize that you have to get a series of three shots for Hepatitis. You get one, another a month later, and the last 6 months after the original.

We will be able to get two shots in before the cruise, which the doctor seemed to think was great. He even gave my husband a Rx for Cipro (unasked). Do you think we should have it filled? Should we get one filled for both of us?

We will be stumbling around in the dark in Acapulco on the Petrogylph excursion. It is scheduled for 5 to 9 pm. We are also hiking in the Sierra Madres in PV. I don't know what we are thinking! I guess I better keep exercising otherwise somebody is going to have to carry me off the mountains!

Yeah, I'm one of those folks who don't change. So after next weekend I'll be on the same clock as the west coast folks. Makes it a bit harder to make contact with my Carolina brother having the three hour time difference. I also won't need to hang out at work till 6PM in case my LA crew needs me....ALTHOUGH....I usually end up DISing till past then anyway! :lmao:

.

We visited Arizona and Utah a few years ago and travelled round a bit, including Monument Valley. We were changing our watches all the time as the Navajo do change theirs. It was fun

Oh trust me, there's a lot I miss. I've recently made an effort to remember some of the names we've heard in the past so that I can catch when they are referenced in passing, and it paid off in this episode. I still want to label Daniel with Miles's name for some reason and can't seem to remember archeologist girl's at all! :sad2:

I love the play on words in the title of next week's episode "The Other Woman" about Juliet.

OK...REALLY singing off now and starting projects.

.....i'll probably be back for my lunch break though......

Very true monica, now all I have to do it get out the sewing machine, find some material, and find the time to sew one up... All without alerting the boys to the advent of the cruise.

Ok, I didn't think about this until you were talking about flying out of Van to Seattle....are you anywhere near Nimpo Lake or Williams Lake? We have friends who own a home/resort on Nimpo that we have visited. What a drive!!!! Ok, it was great except for the mosquito problem there, YUCK!

Williams Lake is about a 1 hour drive time south of me. To get to Nimpo Lake I have to go down Hwy 97 to Williams Lake and then take Hwy 20 out to Nimpo Lake. Nimpo Lake is about 260 miles (422 km) from my location.

If your friends ever talked about the Gold Rush city of Barkerville, you would have to come to Quesnel to get there.

You can use a gift bag. Just hang it on the fish outside your door.

Well, we have had some really great weather of late so I can't complain! I believe the snow pile in my front yard is now UNDER 8 feet!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Last I heard our snowpack is sitting somewhere around 160% or so...

Bed for me too, way tired. So glad Paul gets home tommorrow night.

Have a good weekend. I may get a chance to chat at ya tomorrow unless I behave and get the house put back together for my DH....NOT!! okay, we are folding the clothes on the couch and taking out the trash and we did groceries tonight already, so he really is going to be happy when he comes home....no work....

Ok I don't feel so bad not doing much before Darrell came home last night (he was in TX all week for work). I did laundry and dishes and planned to eat our last night so all was good. I had planned to do some de-cluttering of my scrapbook area and it just never happened - I actually started another new project and cluttered more
