Trust Internet Access
Internet access within the Trust is provided via the National Health Service Network. The Trusts essential clinical and business applications also share this same limited bandwidth and as an organisation, we need to ensure that priority is given to core functions to ensure that they run as efficiently as possible.
In accordance with the internet access policy, and to increase the efficiency with which we use our bandwidth, UHB has subscribed to a product called Websense which is a website directory and security alert database
To help to ensure that the internet is used in an effective and secure manner, Websense will place a daily time quota on some of the websites that users visit.
Individual users will have unrestricted access to work related medical and research sites but will still be able to use the internet for personal purposes in line with Trust policies
Users will be permitted a total of one hour a day to access websites that fall into a category that the trust has deemed to be non work related. At midnight the quota will be reset and a further one hour will be allowed the following day.
The quotas are split into 5 minute periods. Should the site that you try to access fall into a category that has a quota set on it, you will have the option to use quota time. If you choose this option, you will be able to access the site of your choice and any other site that is within a quota category. Once the 5 minute period is over, if you are still within the website you will be prompted to see if you wish to carry on and use another 5 minutes of your quota time.
If a site that you regularly use for work related purposes falls into category that has a quota, you can either email
websense@uhb.nhs.uk or alternatively contact the I.T. Service Desk on x 2199.
A more detailed document on the internet access policy can be found on the trusts intranet, under the policies and guidelines section.
