May 10-17 Alaskan Adventure

how was weather.....we leave June 20th?

The weather was cold and overcast leaving Vancouver and very cold and misty going into Tracy Arms. The rest of he cruise the weather was very nice with mostly sunny skies and about 65 degrees. It was also nice when we got back to Vancouver, probably about 70 degree and sunny skies.

okay I might just have to do an alaskan cruise just to get that picture wiuth Minnie in her fur outfit!! :cutie: but wow, the glaciers! how amazing is that!

Yes, definatley worth it to see Minnie in her snow outfit! I also saw Goofy in a snow suit but could not get to him in time for a photo. The glaciers and icebergs are incredible to see!

Show schedule was:
1.welcome aboard
2.The Golden Mickey's
3.Magic/Comedy with Adam Trent
4.Movie-Big Cats
5.Toy Story and this was pirate's night too
6.hypnosis/comedy with Dale K
7.Disney Dreams

West jet allows 1 bag per person to be checked in for free and after that it is $25 per bag per person. You can also have 1 carry on. I did not see any blankets or pillows but it was a pretty short light, about 1 hr 40 min.

We also took the coast starlight train back home. You can check in bags at the train station. There is no charge and I do not think they have a limit on checked bags but once you check them in you won't see them again until you are at your final stop, you can also take bags on with you, like carry ons and there is plenty of room in the overhead compartments or on the floor by you feet to store them. We had coach seats and they were very comfortable with lots of leg room and they each have a power outlet so you can keep your cell phone, lap top, etc plugged in. They gave us pillows but said blankets are not free and we would have to purchase them if wanted blanket.

Thanks for the info on shows.....looks like they are following the same schedule throughout these cruises....cars 2 premiers when we are on ship....which will be nice....

Since there is 6 of us....West Jet will good....our flight from SNA is about 3 hours I think.....I heard they have personal video screens which will be nice for kids.....do they have food for purchase or better to bring along our own....?

We are taking the Coast Starlight from Seattle to LA.....very long train ride we have a bedroom suite booked for us.....so wondering if our luggage goes in room with you....how long to they stop in each station to get luggage off....does it come out like at an airport?

We spent the day exploring hiking trails around Whistler and saw a couple waterfalls and a lake. Some of the trails still had snow on them! Later on we went zip lining which was super fun. We went to Wildplay which was about a 15 minute drive from the village and it turned out that we were the only two people signed up for the zip line course so we got a private excursion! The zip lines run side by side so we got to both go at the same time which was really fun. After zip lining we went back to the hotel and watched the Sharks/Canucks playoff game and our team lost really badly  We then packed our bags again since we were leaving in the morning to go back to Vancouver and catch a bus to Seattle. I will try to post pictures later of today but my photo bucket ap is acting up right now and won't let me download any new pics! :confused3

There was personal screens on the airplane and you can watch some channels for free but the movies you have to pay for separate, I think it was $5.95. They did have some salads and sandwiches for sale but I did not buy any food so not sure of the price.

The bedroom suite on the train will be nice. There is a movie theater for the sleeper cabins, I did not get to see it because we were in coach. They also have free dining and wifi for the sleeper cabins so it is definatley worth it since the meals are a bit expensive if you pay for them yourself. The train does stop probably about 30+ stops between Seattle and LA. Most of the stops are very quick, about 5 minutes. In the bigger cities like Portland, Sacramento, Oakland, the train stops for 45 min to an hour and you can get off and walk around. They will tell you when you need to be back by.

Our final stop was San Jose, Ca and we could not find a baggage claim area. We finally saw a window that said baggage claim and we had to give the lady our luggage check in paperwork and she found our bags and brought them out.

thanks for the info.....we get off in Oxnard.....which is a very small station so I was curious how they will know to get our luggage off the train? maybe it stays with us since we have a sleeper car....I have heard wonderful things about the Coast star light....so looking forward to it....I have never traveled by train....so sure it will be an adventure....

You will have lots of fun on the train, it is an adventure! There are people on the train that walk around and constantly check your ticket. For us we had it clipped to an area over our head. When our stop was coming up next the lady folded our ticket and wrote something in her book so I'm guessing she relays the info to whoever gets the bags off at the stop. I'm not sure if you will have your luggage with you in the sleeper car ir not but if you don't I'm sure they will know when your stop is coming so they can make sure your bags get off the train.

I was so excited that The Wonder was at pier 35 today just 45 minutes from our house. *Since our "kids" can't come on vacation with us, I took the dogs out to the pier to show them the ship. *We had lots of fun and the weather was beautiful!

love the picture of your two well behaved kids. :thumbsup2

Our trip had come to an end but we still had a long journey home. From Whistler we drove to Vancouver and got on a bus to Seattle. We booked through Amtrak. The bus ride took 4 hrs but about 45 min was spent at customs at the Canada US border. We spent the night in Seattle at the Sorrento Hotel and then got on the Amtrak train in the morning. The train took about 26 hrs from Seattle to San Jose and it was very relaxing and comfortable. I managed to write most of this report on the train as I watched the scenery go by. Now I am back in the real world and planning my next Disney trip which will be to Disneyland in July for my birthday!

What a nice trip report! I'm a bit late to the party :goodvibes but glad I found it.

Did you have a salmon bake with your Juneau excursion? We have booked that but haven't heard many good things...

Hi,
Thanks for reading. No we did not have a Salmon bake with our excursion but they offered us salmon on the whale watching boat. We do not eat fish so did not try it. One of our table mates did the salmon bake and said it was just OK.

Great report - loved seeing the pictures. I was wondering about whether to get disposable cameras for when we go up on the glacier in Juneau because of the cold / weather.

A waterproof disposable camera would be good. My husbands expensive camera got too much moisture and stopped working for a few days but was OK once all the parts dried. The weather is unpredictable so I would take a good camera for the nice days and use a disposable for the cold and wet days.

Whenever I purchase a new digital camera I always make sure they are waterproof. I learned my leasson the hard way going through the PC with DCL. The humidity destroyed my camera.:sad1:

I know what you mean! Lucky for us, ours still works but we won't be taking any more risks.

Lilbunnyk - it was fun reading your post and adventures. We were on the same cruise and enjoyed every waking moment of our journey. We loved Alaska and her all her beauty.

tksbaskets - the salmon bake was ok. the best part was only the salmon as for the rest of the food wasn't that great. You might be better off eating Salmon somewhere else. My friends and I said it wasn't worth the money.
