May 10-17 Alaskan Adventure

Our last Alaskan port was today at Ketchikan. *We did not get to port until 12:00 pm so had a lot of time in the morning. *We went to the spa and enjoyed the Rasul and rainforest room. *James had been fighting a cold so the steam helped clear his sinus' and lungs. *At 12:30 we met in the Walt Disney theatre for our excursion; Rainforest sanctuary, raptor center and totem poles. *We took a bus to the rainforest and got into small groups of 6 or so. *Our guide was a high school student, she was very smart and showed us all the different plant life and evidence of bears in the rainforest. *The walk took about an hour and a half, it was very slow and easy. *At one point we crossed a bridge and saw several bald eagles fishing witch was awesome. *At the end of the trail we met a herd of domestic reindeer and were able to feed and pet them which was fun.

We then walked through an old saw mill and into the raptor center which really was just a large aviary with a bald eagle and an owl inside. *We then walked into a building and watched a man work on carving a totem pole. *It wad a nice excursion but I was hoping for a more rugged hike and more birds at the raptor center. *

We took the bus back to the ship and then walked around town. *We had gotten a free pass to the Discovery Center from our excursion so we checked that out. *It was like a small museum with displays on local wildlife and history. *We checked out a couple souvenir shops and then headed back to the ship. *The show tonight was a hypnotist act which I watched but didn't think it was great. *Dinner was at Parrot Key, it was lobster night which our table mates enjoyed but we had the vegetarian dinner. *I watched Gnomeo and Juliette and then went to the late night dessert buffet. *I did not really find anything *wanted but the ice sculpture was cool to see.

Today was the last day of our cruise and we had a nice, relaxing day at sea. *We started of the day by adding onto our DVC. *We had wanted to get more points but waited to be on the cruise to get better deals. *After that we went to a talk about black bears and then I went to play bingo and lost again! *We had high tea at Palo which was nice and relaxing with some great views. *

The show was Disney Dreams and we both watched it and loved it like usual! *After the show we packed our bags and put them outside our room for pick up. *Dinner was at Tritons and we had the baked Alaska desert. *After dinner we watched Toy Story 3 in the Buena vista theater then went to bed.

What a great TR! Thanks for sharing your trip and your great pictures. I know how it is to leave your 'kids' at home (we have a lab/golden that we hate to leave at home too) Glad you got your camera back. We go in August and can't wait to see those things in person.

Great report!! We are leaving on our flight Monday to Vancouver and leave Tuesday on the Wonder.. Can't wait:cool1: Thanks again for the report and pictures..

James

Wonderful trip report! I really enjoyed reading it. We go in a few weeks and this is getting me really excited! :)

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments! I hope you all have as much fun as we did. I am now home finally and have just a little bit more to add to the trip report.

We were given a breakfast time of 8:30 AM so we had plenty of time to get ready in the morning. *Our room host knocked on the door to clean our room at about 7:30, I guess he did not realize that we were still there. *We went to breakfast and heard our luggage tag character called to debark but our server said we can enjoy breakfast and leave anytime we were ready. *After breakfast we were able to walk off the ship pick up our luggage and go through customs really fast. *We went to the National car rental and picked up a car. *We had planned to go to Whistler after the cruise. *We drove to Whistler which is a beautiful drive and we stopped to see some waterfalls on the way up. *We checked into the Sundial hotel and took a walk around the village and some of the near by trails. *The hotel had a roof top hot tub which we relaxed in and then headed to bed.

The scraping icebergs were a bit scary but I could only hear them from my room on deck 2. I also had visions of Titanic in my head but soon forgot about it and got lost in the scenery! Have fun on your trip in August!

:scared1:We are staying deck 2 too!!!:rotfl2:

which spa villa treatment did you book for hot tub time and what time slot did you book? It sounded awesome and I'm thinking about surprising my hubby! tia, lc

Thanks,

Thanks or reading! Our hotel in Whistler was the Sundial. It is in a great location right in the village and it easy to walk to anywhere in the village from there. The rooms are beautiful and large and the staff is very friendly and helped us out in finding hiking trails and other activities. I will post some pictures of the hotel after work today.

Show schedule was:
1.welcome aboard
2.The Golden Mickey's
3.Magic/Comedy with Adam Trent
4.Movie-Big Cats
5.Toy Story and this was pirate's night too
6.hypnosis/comedy with Dale K
7.Disney Dreams

West jet allows 1 bag per person to be checked in for free and after that it is $25 per bag per person. You can also have 1 carry on. I did not see any blankets or pillows but it was a pretty short light, about 1 hr 40 min.

We also took the coast starlight train back home. You can check in bags at the train station. There is no charge and I do not think they have a limit on checked bags but once you check them in you won't see them again until you are at your final stop, you can also take bags on with you, like carry ons and there is plenty of room in the overhead compartments or on the floor by you feet to store them. We had coach seats and they were very comfortable with lots of leg room and they each have a power outlet so you can keep your cell phone, lap top, etc plugged in. They gave us pillows but said blankets are not free and we would have to purchase them if wanted blanket.
