MaxPass Strategy Question

I can feel myself overthinking this and I'm probably still in a WDW mindset, so apologies in advance if this is a silly question.
We're going to have purchased MaxPass in advance and will be there before rope drop. So when I'm there and I tap into the gates, and go to make my first Fastpass, do I want to get one for 10:00 AM or whatever is showing as first available? Or do I want to wait a few minutes, and get my first one for say 11:00 so that lines have had longer to build and it might be more beneficial? What is your plan of attack using MP?

Thank you!!

If you haven't already read this thread, do! It will give you so much helpful information for your trip: A DLR Guide for WDW Vets. Do have a plan for your trip and a back up plan (in case things go awry). But after that, be prepared to just let go and let the magic happen! DLR is much more relaxed than WDW. As you get used to using MP, you'll get into the rhythm of how it works best for your group. Agree with the pp to go with what you want that's first available, then just keep going from there!

ETA: this recent thread has good information on getting the most from MP: Strategies for holding multiple fast passes?.

If your first return time is less than 30 minutes from the time you book, can you still book the next one as soon as you scan in? Or do you always have to wait a minimum of at least 30 minutes?

You don’t have to wait 30 minutes if you scan in first.

OP, you want to leverage “first available” with “won’t be immediately available later in the day.” To get the most out of Maxpass, you want to minimize your time between FP pulls, essentially, so you want to grab quick returns, but ideally, those are quick returns that WON’T be quick later in the day.

For instance, on the Disneyland side, rides like Space Mountain and Indiana Jones are popular, so by mid-day, you’d probably get a later FP return time and incur a “90 minute wait” for your next FP if you booked them. But first thing, you can often grab them with just a 30 minute wait or something before your return time. So the most efficient thing to do is to grab those types early.

Also, as a side note if you get in the park at an 8 or 9 opening, the only FP that would possibly be out at a 11:00 return time would be RSR...

QUESTION: Does Maxpass allow you to pick FPs that are later than the first available ones (I’m talking about regularly scheduled ones, not canceled ones with earlier return times)? For example, if I would like to ride RSR in the evening, could I use Maxpass to draw a late return time in the morning, even though the FPs assigned on the Kiosks show a morning or midday time, or do I have to wait until my desired return time becomes available to everyone before I can get that FP?

We were using Maxpass last year, and I seem to remember that “earliest available” was the only option (again, with the exception of canceled passes). Do I remember that wrong, or has something about this changed since?

Please school me on this. We’ll be leaving tomorrow to start in the Parks on Wednesday, and this would really affect my FP planning.

TIA!
:)

No, it does not. To get a nighttime RSR, you have to wait for that time to become available.

Thanks, Skyegirl! That’s what I figured. Oh, good... I don’t have to completely revamp my painstakingly tweaked touring plans now (I’m the big family touring planner and take pride in well-crafted Park plans!).

I have a related question: Looking at the app now, it shows that RSR currently has a FastPass return time of 6:40p-7:40p. If I was in the park now and pulled a FP for that time, I know I would have to wait 90 mins before I could pull another one. However, after that 90 mins has passed, can I start pulling additional FPs while I'm waiting for the RSR return time? IOW, it's currently 11:38 Disney time. After I waiting the 90 mins, it will be 1:08pm. That's still 5.5 hours before the RSR return time. During that 5.5 hours, could I pull however many FPs as I can fit into that window of time? Or, am I limited in some way since the RSR FP is hanging out there? I hope this question makes sense.

ETA: OK, I just saw the suggestion to check the link above and I see the answer to my question. Looks like I *can* book other FPs in that window, assuming they are available.

Yes, 90 minutes is the maximum you ever wait between FP pulls when you have Maxpass; you only have to wait that long if your FP is more than 90 minutes away. If you booked a FP for less than 90 minutes away, you wouldn’t wait 90 minutes.

The one limitation I know of is that you cannot draw another RSR FP unless you have used the first one, even if it’s available. If I understand it correctly, you can hold as many FP as you can get within those timeframes, but you cannot hold two FPs for the same ride (multi-experience passes being the exception to this rule). Somebody correct me if this has changed & I’m wrong...

You are correct.

Yes, we take a mid-day break and by keeping an eye on FP return times were able to have 4 FP return times for the evening after our pool/nap time.

We had RSR 5:10-6:10
TSMM 5:40-6:40
IC 6:30-7:30
Soarin' 6:40-7:40

and then we eventually hopped and got multiple
BLAB 8:40-9:40, etc with almost immediate return times
That's a great evening lineup!

That's a great evening lineup!

We were in the parks 6 days so had time to perfect our MP planning! A few times we would have to criss-cross the parks but overall it worked out great. Did the same thing for DL in the evenings. Except we had the exact same sequence for StarTours 7 times in a row so eventually we just stopped getting StarTours FP.

Question for you guys: if you were booking FPs from your hotel, we’re you onsite or offsite? We’re staying offsite and I’m wondering if it’ll work there.

It’ll work from anywhere once you’ve scanned in for the day. I can book from my house, which is a 15-minute drive away. People have posted about booking from other states after flying home!
