I think there's very few things in life that someone can geniunely be absolutely thrilled about to go do or see. For me, its Disney World. Now it's no secret that I love going down but the rest of my family are well, "Less than thrilled" when it comes to the World. But as you can tell by the fact that this is a trip report, I will be going down but here's the whole story....
With my graduation from college coming up, my parents had wanted to know when I would be coming home to spend some time with them before I went out into the world and got my own life....something about "missing me" or something
Anyway, as graduation got closer my mom told me numerous times to take the week after graduation off from work and come home. That alone wasn't suspicous but she kept making sure I had taken that week off.
So I began to suspect something was amiss. I mean, if they were going to buy me a car or something, they wouldn't need me to come home for a week , right? Well a few weeks passed and no mention of this week came up and I began to think "Great, they just want to see me!", as if that was a bad thing
And then the other week we were in the car and I suggested a trip to WDW and a collective groan was heard from anyone. At that point I gave up pretty much all hope for a trip. And I did what anyone would do when they realize they're plans aren't going to go through....I began coming up with reasons why it would be silly to go down, such as "It'll be too hot" or "Connecticut is just like Florida....just less humid and more trees" and "I'll get by by just listening to alot of Disney World radio".
Last week my parents told me they'd be coming into the city and wanted to have lunch with me to celebrate my sister's birthday. So they suggested chinese and I brought them to a nice little place in Chinatown for lunch. We ate, yada, yada, yada, yada and it came down to time to leave. My dad asked for the check and I was busy making sounds like a beached whale because thats what I felt like after finishing my lunch and then tackling my sister's meal.
So the waiter comes with the check and distributes the fortune cookies but my dad objects and asks for all the fortune cookies as he feels he needs to distribute them for better luck. You might have nutty parents like my dad who have dillusions of grandeur but by now I've gotten used to and was more preoccupied with figuring out how to work the release on my new belt I bought
So when I got mine, I said "Umm, mine's sort of broken" and my dad barked back "It doesn't matter....just open it". So I cracked the cookie, and took out the fortune. There were two lines of text and I read the first line, "Your greatest wish will come true..." and so I thought to myself, "Heh, maybe it'll say I'll get a new car or a trip to Disney". So I kept reading, "...you're going to Disney World!" So I looked pointed to my fortune and showed my mom, "Hey, look at my fortune. It says I'm going to...." and as I was talking everyone was laughing and then I noticed the fact the paper was cut unevenly and no one else was looking at there fortunes and realized what was going on. Needless to say, I was speechless. I just had the dumbest grin on my face and really couldn't believe what was going on.
So as it turns out, the day after my graduation ceremony we're flying down for 5 days (Wednesday - Sunday). So with just 2 or 3 days left before my trip, I have to go into overdrive to start planning. For people like me, I cant just go down on any random trip like I'm going to the supermarket or something. I need every aspect of the trip planned with backups, page references to the Unofficial Guide, a journal to write in, clothing to match the park you're going to, etc. As you can probably tell by now, I'm super excited and can't wait for another trip to the happiest place on earth.
