OMG-so funny!!!
OMG-so funny!!!
It's targeted marketing. Likely researched to death. While it isn't 100% effective, humans are herd animals, and that ad probably is pretty effective with the people they want to consider buying a Lincoln. Who are those people? 35 to 40 year olds who currently have or are considering leasing a Lexus, Infiniti ,Audi or BMW.
I don't think they are looking to attract anyone who would even consider a Cadillac. They sure aren't interested in me. I'm 55+, buy my cars, not lease, and drive a car 15+ years.
DW and I went car shopping and Lincoln has some interesting vehicles. Funny, though, some of the changes they have made are clearly geared to a demographic other than me. For some reason, leather is the only seat trim available. Nothing nicer in my opinion than the luxury velvety soft cloth seating Cadillac and Lincoln used to offer. Leather is so common now, you can even get it in a Focus.
The ad creators try all sorts of things. Anyone remember the Chrysler 200 spot with Eminem, with the "Imported from Detroit" tagline? That didn't really make much sense to me, but these Lincoln commercials just make no sense.
Or all the Joe Isuzu commercials starring David Leisure? Interesting because it had among the highest recognition factors of any commercials of it's time, but sales of Isuzu cars fell the entire time the ads ran. Isuzu actually sold more cars in the U.S. with other brand names on them than under their own name. Cars like the Chevy Luv. The first Honda Passports were just Isuzu Rodeos. The first Honda Odyssey mini vans were actually Isuzu Oasis minivans. The first Acura SLX was just an Isuzu Trooper.
I think the Passport was always an Isuzu design. When Honda was able to make it's first large SUV, it was the Pilot.
....I've had Lincolns for 20 years - LOVE 'em!They were trying something different with their advertising I guess. Their cars are certainly unremarkable. I bought a new Cadillac; never even considered a Lincoln.
Bingo.Like them or not, they are working. People are talking about them and they are creating brand recognition. What other commercial has their own SNL parodies or dedicated threads on discussion board?
And an honest admission, I had no idea the guy in the Lincoln ads was a celebrity, I have never heard of
Matthew McConaughey, and I just went to IMDB, I have never seen any of his films. So more evidence I am NOT in the demographic they are looking to reach.![]()
He made a movie several years ago called IIRC the Lincoln Lawyer. in the story he lived in the car.
I have heard of him, but haven't seen any of his films either (go at it, grammar Nazis!) I also hate that commercial and would never consider driving a Lincoln.
So, I guess I'm not in the demographic either.
C'est la vie.
What makes a commercial work is evidence of sales resulting from them. Brand recognition can be a BAD thing if people look at those commercials and think, "Lincolns are driven by dirty creepy men in the dark. I don't want to be a dirty creepy man driving around in the dark."Like them or not, they are working. People are talking about them and they are creating brand recognition. What other commercial has their own SNL parodies or dedicated threads on discussion board?
Really? He won an Oscar for "Dallas Buyers Club" last year. I've liked him since I saw him in Contact with Jodie Foster.
....don't you mean "Say la vee" ?I have heard of him, but haven't seen any of his films either (go at it, grammar Nazis!) I also hate that commercial and would never consider driving a Lincoln.
So, I guess I'm not in the demographic either.
C'est la vie.
...OMG, too funny! My favorite is the one where Ellen inserted herself into the commercial.
