How do the coasters match up against the ones in California. I haven't been on a coaster in 25 years and the last one was the Matterhorn in Anaheim. How does it compare to Thunder Mountain, is it steeper or faster or slower and more tame.

Actually, I've been on both and i don't know that they compare all that much. Put it this way the matterhorn is a really old coaster - which i found fun - but kinda uncomfortable. The ride vehicles themselves were kinda too small and rough. The BTMR is much smoother and actually not very instense. In fact if you havn't been on a coaster for 25 years i think BTMR is the perfect way to get back in the game. Then you can move up to Space Mountain and RNR. But yeah af all the coasters in the park (not counting kiddie ones) BTMR is the least intense.

I don't think they are comparable, either. I rode the Matterhorn in 2002 and thought I would get shaken to death! If memory serves, there are separate cars, not a long series of connected cars. You start out at the top of the mtn and wind your way down, kinda like a mini Space Mountain.

BTMR is a lot smoother and a lot more fun!

EDIT: wanted to say that my sis is terrified or roller coasters. I got her on BTMR in May and she loved it!!! She even rode it twice!

...BTM is smooth and very well themed...the matterhorn is an older coaster and very rough...I have been bruised after riding...though it is fun! Rumor has it that there is a basketball court inside the matterhorn mountain!

I think BTM is a lot more rough than the Matterhorn. In the Matterhorn you basically just go around in circles while going in and out of the mountain. In BTM you bump around a lot and there are a bunch of sharp turns. For the less adventurous I woould probably say the Matterhorn. But if you want a good thrill, then go on BTM. Or you could go on both of them!

The Matterhorn is very rough in comparison to BTM (either one). The Matterhorn is very similar to MK's Space Mountain--at least that's how it seemed to me. The Space Mountain at MK seemed like the Matterhorn in complete darkness. Space Mountain at DL is extremely smooth by comparison.

I just rode the Matterhorn one month ago at DL and I had forgotten how bumpy it was. Matterhorn seemed pretty tame overall, but just a little bit too bumpy for my taste. I liked BTMRR much much better. Now, my favorite is RNRC at WDW, but that is in a league of its own!! Smooooth and Fast!
