Matterhorn is apparently going through a 3-phase refurbishment this summer. MousePlanet has reported the following:

"Matterhorn Bobsleds – closed June 13 to 17, June 20 to 24, and July 11 to September 1 for refurbishment."

The official Disneyland calendar only shows as far out as July 12 but so far as that confirms this closure.

Booooooo! We've done seven 1-day trips to DL. We've never ridden the Matterhorn because of time constraints. This year we'll actually be there for 5 days and it's down!! Booooooo to that!

I am kind of excited to see the finished product of the refurb! I just wish this ride had a way of installing a FP! :(

So yesterday I was asking the CM at Matterhorn why they changed the line and he said they were testing it out. Then he said Matterhorn was going to be closed from January until.....December!!!:scared1: I said really? an entire year??? Yes because they are redoing the tracks and widening it and putting in new cars.

An entire year without Matterhorn? Nooooooo!!!

Now that seems a little excessive!

If they are taking it down for a whole year, next year, why are they closing it for the whole summer this year? :confused3

I will tell everyone this is a bunch of bull. I called Disney 2 weeks ago before booking my trip.I new about the refurbs in June. I asked about July. The guy laughed it off and told me nothing going on in July. So I went ahead and booked vacation coming from NYC. Told my kids about Matterhorn. Showed them video of ride. Then 2 days later Mouseplanet reports refurb for the summer. I call Disneyland everyday for the next 10 days being told by those idiots, nope those websites must be mistaken, they are wrong BLAH BLAH BLAH. So my questions are why the hell do third party sites have info before Disney. Why the hell are they closing ride down for 5 days, opening it closing it for 5 days then reopening it for 2 weeks only to close it for 2 months. Why the hell if its a saftey issue that suddenly came up like some have suggested does Disney keep ride open now and risk injury or death to someone. Lastly does Disney really want me to believe that they are closing the ride for 2 months and they didnt know about closure when I called. I dont want to hear about calander only goes 60 days ahead. They put me on hold to speak to someone. I am coming a long way to have the ride they are known for during the busiest time of the year closed. I am not a local that can go anytime. I should have went back to Disneyworld.

It is a much needed rehab! I just went on this ride last monday and remember why I DON'T like riding it. I came off the ride with a sore arm from all the jerkyness(is that a word:lmao:). Can't wait to see what happens with it. Hopefully it will be a much smoother ride! At least when it goes down, there will be a few new rides to explore. It's better than having 2 mountians down at once. Mattahorn may not be in disneyworld....but the other mountains are still slightly different from the ones in Disneyworld.

They have so much construction going on that their refurb schs. are getting pushed back. Enjoy Uncle Walt's first theme park.... you will be amazed at how different it is from Magic Kingdom. Take time to explore it. ;):goodvibes

Because they want to sell you a ticket and hotel room. Same reason they told me that the construction at the Disneyland Hotel was going to be "minor" when I booked for our trip in April. It seems to be pretty clear to me. Disneyland is a business and they want to keep the money flowing for many reasons.

The problems with the other big rides is my son doesnt make height requrments. The Matterhorn would have been perfect. I am just so pissed. I think I am going to write a letter to Disney. Not that they will care but I need to vent.

I have taken my kids to Disneyland at all ages (starting around 2) and heights, and we always have an amazing time. That is why we keep coming back! This is not Magic Mountain we are talking about--there will be plenty of rides for you and your son to enjoy despite his height challenges. You really just need to take a deep breath and remember that this is disneyland we are talking about--it was designed for kids.

Chances are better you were not talking to anybody in Disneyland at all. In fact the chances are beter you were talking to someone closer to Disneyworld.

Disney has call centers all over the US.

So how do you get good information? You ask questions to verify the CM's knowlege of DL to figure out if it's first hand or if they are just searching the internet to get answers.

Something specific. Like have you ever eaten in Blue Bayou, how are the potatos served? Have you sat in the front or the back of the monorail, how many people can fit in there? What section of Paradise park did you view WoC from, did you get wet? What color are Harold's eyes?

If they are in DL they should be able to answer that question. If not they would probably have no idea what it's about, the Matterhorn.

And always remember too: no one knows more about Disneyland than us online folks!

Yes, I know it's disappointing when a ride is down. (Re: Alice in Wonderland last summer), but honestly, the matterhorn is overrated anyways. Jerky is the best description for it. It's rough. It's very old and in need of some help. There are so many other wonderful things to see and do in Walt's park. And many new things for you to see and do since you've never been! I'm sure you'll have a great time.
