Noticed that MousePlanet has added this refurbishment to their list. They're usually pretty reliable. So that puts the Matterhorn down for most of the summer, especially with the other brief planned closures of June 13 - 17 and June 20 - 24.

Thanks. Very weird! Summer?

Probably has a bunch of track work to do. Particularly if they are planning on putting those new cars on the tracks.

Bummer for DD. She'll be disappointed. Me, not so much, as I think it's too rough. Am really surprised they would have this ride down for all of summer? I thought the new cars were already in use?

That stinks!!! We missed it on our first trip to Disney and had it on the list of first things to do on our trip in July! What a disappointment!!

Odd a few weeks ago the rumor was it would be done in a few months but in a different season.

As Hydroguy noted, that's a really strange period for an E ticket to be down.

If this is true it may indicate that a major attraction would be down in the Fall and Winter.

Haven't been able to find anything on what exactly they're doing with the Matterhorn and whether this is finally the new car install. Have only seen these dates which are, of course, subject to change.

Thanks for the info! I will miss it during my Aug trip :(
But this gives me an excuse to go back ;)

Yes it is true. :( I found another reputable site that mentions it. However, what I don't understand is why they would keep opening and closing the attraction. Either close it and get the refurb done or keep it open and schedule it during the "off season" when visitors expect a few rides to be closed.

Also, the whole point of going in the summer is that everything is usually open, that is why we battle the heat, crowds, etc. I'm really disappointed.. if you couldn't tell.

When we were there in January it kept having issues and was closed to fix them. I wonder if it's gotten to the point that they realize with summer crowds it's just going to break down all the time so it's better to just close it and fix it?

Bummer! Never been to DL and that was one of those classic E ticket rides that WDW doesn't have that I was really looking forward to riding. Can't believe they'd close it right in the middle of July... hoping things change.

I'm arriving on the September 3rd so hopefully it will open back up on time.

I had a Matterhorn CM just a couple days ago tell me they expected it to go down in the fall. And that what the CMs were hearing (which we all know is subject to frequent change) was that the new cars would likely be put on in the fall - so I am surprised to hear it is down over the summer.

but most people were surprised when Splash was down for all of Spring Break, so perhaps something came up with Matterhorn, same as splash...

This is what I was wondering... I've heard its been down a lot lately...

Well, crud. This is our first trip ever to DL and I was really looking forward to riding The Matterhorn.

What's next? Is Mickey going to be unavailable for photos?

Kidding, sort of ... I'm just irritated. It seems as though we picked a terrible summer for our "once in a lifetime" trip to DLR with all the construction and upgrading going on at DCA and DLH. I wish we could postpone until 2012.

Before everyone jumps on the grumpy bandwagon, I personally am going to wait to see for Disney's official announcement on this one. It will not surprise me at all if the Matterhorn closure rumor this summer turns into nothing. It is just so contrary to Disney's historical patterns to do something like this during the summer. Either the rumor is half-baked or Disney will change their mind. That is where my money is until I hear otherwise.

:cool2:

Well like I said before, I was very disappointed to hear this news but my kids did put this into perspective when I told them. I thought they would be very upset but they said "well Mom there must be a reason for it to be down, I'd rather it be safe than be on it not safe!" Hmmm, sometimes kids see things in very matter of fact terms. Perhaps I need to take a lesson from them on perspective!! Let's cross our fingers and hope for the best!

Same here - I was really looking forward to this ride!!! :confused3
