I didn't read through the whole thread so if something similar was mentioned, I apologize!
Same here.
I'm not a huge fan of them for my family, but that's because I would have to make them! My husband and son actually quite like them, REALLY like them as a matter of fact, but aren't willing to do the work at all.
So we don't wear them.
One year I did order some buttons, like the "Birthday" buttons, but with info about our trip. LIke what you would put on a shirt, but in button form. I actually liked THAT. But I don't have photoshop, etc, so I asked DISigners to make things, and then it just didn't fill the button like it would have done if they'd known they were making it for a button, so it was the design in a little frame...just not perfect.
I believe it's lack of creativity that makes something lame.
That's why it's best I don't do them.
Two further thoughts!
If you're going to wear matching shirts, do NOT be surprised if people talk to you about them! You're out there, very obvious, and telling everyone your family name (sometimes), so seriously, you're going to get noticed. Big huge family group at Seaworld the other week acted all weird when I said "oh you were at the dolphin show earlier", like I wasn't going to notice neon ORANGE shirts with "x family reunion" on them? And then when I talked with them about the shirts they were all bashful.
If you're going to wear them, own it.
AND if you're not doing matchy shirts, take a digital picture of each child in your party separately every morning (or after a clothing change). That way if someone gets separated you can easily show them exactly what they are wearing.
