Mastercard is offering a free $20 gift card when you register your card and spend $200 online between now and Dec. 31, 2011. Details here:

https://holiday.mastercard.com/

I know that I can easily reach $200 in spending between now and then. Aside from Christmas, I have 4 birthdays to buy gifts for.

Fine print:
Starts 11/15/11. Ends 12/31/11 or while supplies last. Offline, PIN-based & international transactions ineligible. Gift Card quantities are limited to the first 80,000 eligible entrants & maximum 10,000 other gifts to next 10,000 eligible entrants. Restrictions apply. Click here for Terms & Conditions & complete details.

does anyone else worry it might be a scam with having to register the card number? It isn't on FatWallet, at least that I saw. Did it come mailed to you from your bank, OP?

I just got my $20 GC in the mail this afternoon. We leave in 10 days so this is a nice little bonus! :cool1:

AFAIK, this promotion is still going on! Try the link in my first post or check on Mastercard's website for the "Here's to Mom" promotion.

Darn! I wish I'd seen this thread way back when. I don't think we need anything for $200 but I registered just in case. You never know...

Maybe I could order a Disney Gift Card? We're going in January.. Hmmm.

I got my $20 card today as well. I ended up buying a few things for people and they paid me back, so it was really like free money.

It can be accumulated purchases. I haven't spent $200 in a swoop and it told me I earned one the other day. I know I've made lots of small purchases though!

Can I pay a bill online with it or does it need to be goods purchased?

I JUST registered my card, though. I can't think of anything online I'd need in the immediate future that came to anywhere close to $200.

But a $200 Disney Gift Card? Could be our spending money for the January trip vs. just using cash. I need to read through the fine print better and see if that would count!

My $200 in online purchases consisted of 4 $50 gift cards. Three were for the grocery stores close to where the kids go to college and one was for a Disney gift card. So, gift card purchases counted.

DawnM, I don't know whether online bill payments would work. I think that it would depend on how it gets processed since all of these transactions are looked at by computers at Mastercard to determine if they qualify.

Do you get an email confirmation that you have made your $200 quota? Since it is so close to the deadline I would like to know ASAP if I need to make another purchase.

I too was thinking of getting gift cards. Walmart maybe or Costco if I can get them online. I haven't looked yet.

My Costco membership is due. It is $100. I can do that online.

I could easily get $400 in Costco gift cards as well as we spend at least that much per month on food.

My Mastercard is really a debit card through ING though, so the cash will be taken out immediately.

I just saw this last night. Thanks for posting!

I didn't see anything excluding gift cards, so I bought a $200 Wegman's gift card. If it doesn't go through for some reason, I haven't spent anything I wouldn't have spent anyway.

This was my thinking too.

Sprint bill
A couple of Christmas gifts
Costco Membership
Costco gift cards for groceries

All would have been spent anyway.

I just received an e-mail a couple days ago saying I'm met the $200 and asking me where to send my $20 gift card. :goodvibes:cool1:

How long ago did you spend the $$?

Dawn

This is my mileage card, and all of our Christmas purchases went on it. I don't really recall when I signed up (it was within the last couple weeks though) and so I don't know if they counted purchases from the start date of the program (prior to me signing up) or not.

Is this for online purchases only? Do you just go to the website's of whatever store you want to buy an online card at?
