I'm going to book solo or couples massages for my wife and I, but I admit having mixed massage experiences before. We've never had a couples massage, only individual ones. My wife usually only likes upperbody/back massages, while I like the full body. Please give me some feedback on how I should proceed. And please share your disney massage experiences; couples or individual. Of course, I know the therapists will be totally professional, but what styles do they use? What does a wellness massage mean, exactly? Thanks for your help!

DW and I did the couples massage on our 11/04 Wonder. We chose the spa sampler for both of us which was an upper body massage and a facial. We both found it very relaxing. If you do it as a couple, you will have two tables in a room which have just enough room between them for the two therapists to work. The wellness massage is a basic full body deep tissue massage. The therapists were excellent and extremely professional.

As a side note, the only "issue" with my portion of the massage was that my therapist was about 5'2". I am 6'3" and when she was working from my head, she had trouble reaching all the way down my back. I thought it was kind of funny.

Could you tell me the name of the "spa sampler" you had done? I looked through the list and couldn't find it.

Thanks!

We highly recommend the Rasul for couples. We hadn't done any massages before, maybe a little shy. So this one is a very private steam room, shower, nice big bench, a basket of oils, skin care creams, sea salt scrub, MUD,etc.

They send you in there in robes, you get an hour to pamper each other, and whatever else might come to mind - :duck: Lots of smiles ::yes:: No questions asked - very nice. :flower3:

We had 2 couples massages on our cruise in July 2005. We each had the full body massage, but we could have chosen the upper body/facial option as well. You don't have to choose the same thing as your wife...you can get the full body and she can have the upper body/facial. It's not listed...they give you the choice when you arrive. We each had our own massage therapist who talked to us individually about what level of firmness we preferred, any areas needing extra attention, concerns, etc.

The rooms, as described above, were very small, originally intended to hold a single massage bed..but the therapists told us that they were creating larger couples massage rooms during the drydock last October. I don't know if that happened, because I've only heard about the new spa villas on the DIS boards. Maybe recent cruisers who have done the couples massage could chime in on that!

We have done the single treatments, the couples massage, the cabana massage, and the couples suriel spa (now called something else).

Frankly, I could not do the couples massage again. I don't like to talk during treatments. I like to just lay there and be pampered. Don't want any idle conversation so during the couples massage it was no different than having a singles massage with someone else in the room.

For me the couples massage it was not that big of deal. Nothing wrong with it, but it all depends on if you want during your time.

BTW, the cabana massage was really neat. Beautiful morning, laying on the table, listening to the ocean waves, someone rubbing warm oil on your body.....oh the life.

When you book a Couple's Massage, the therapist will offer you the choice of a full body massage or the spa taster (not sampler as I previously said). At least this was the case in 11/04. Not sure if it could be booked separately or not.

DH and I did a couples' massage during our 2004 cruise on the Magic. We loved it. We did the Spa Taster, which I'm not sure is even offered anymore. Our therapists did not talk during the massage, so I wouldn't preclude a couples' massage thinking there'll definitely be conversation. lol I think they leave that up to you; I'm sure that if my DH and I were talking during the massage, and asking them questions, they'd have responded. lol

A wellness massage is a full body massage. This is our favorite (hubby and I).
We love having this as a couples massage. They also offer you add ons when you get in the room, which we love as well. Your wife may be more comfortable with a full body massage with you in the room.

What kind of add-ons do they offer? I have heard they will try to sell tons of products. Is that what you're talking about?

I had the Well Being Massage on the 12/17 Magic. My therapist was Pavi and she was great. I had an option of doing the full body massage, or doing the back of my body with massage and then doing a mini-facial instead of having the top of my legs and arms done. Same price. I opted for the mini-facial as the best part of a massage for me is the back, shoulders and calves. I had considered scheduling a facial as well, so when I could get the mini-facial, I was glad I hadn't done a separate one.

She did show me some products afterward that she had used for my facial and explained the benefits of them, but wasn't at all pushy. She went over them after I was up from the massage and ready for drinking my water afterwards, so it didn't detract from the experience for me.

FWIW, I went early and had a chance to change and then just relax in the ladies' changing area - they have some comfy chaisse loungers in there and I nearly fell asleep :)

I scheduled my massage for Grand Cayman afternoon.

This may be a dumb question, but will they still do a massage on you if you're pregnant? I had heard it's against the law to give a massage in your first trimester, but how about after that? This is my first time being pregnant, so didn't know.

Thanks!

I have gotten massages while I was pregnant (not on the ship) and each time I had to have a note from my doctor. I don't know if it was just this particular spa or what. My spa actually has a massage designed for pregnancy.

Well here goes, I say DO IT!!!!! We booked the Romance at Sea Package on our second cruise last April. The couples massage and Palo of course were the best. First let me say this, I was a little nervous about the DH because he had never had a massage, and I wasn't sure he'd like it. So here's a quick story: We check in at the desk, we get taken into separate rooms and I ask "how much do we leave on?". She says, "However much you feel comfortable with." So I leave my undies on and put the robe on. They then take us into this cute little (and I mean little) room, where there are two tables with just enough room for someone to get through SIDEWAYS. So they tell us to take the robes off, get on the table and cover ourselves with the sheet. Okay cool. I take my robe off and am about to get on the table, and I turn to my husband, and he's HANGIN' OUT ALL OVER, if you know what I mean. I'm like "What are you doin?" he says "she said however you feel comfortable!" I say "Get your underwear on are you kiddin". I mean who knows a guys reaction to a chick massaging everywhere BUT there. Right? So we started crackin up and he puts his shorts back on and we're good, and I mean real good! They kind of did the massage in sync so that we were both getting the same parts done at the same time. I loved it and so did he. I would highly recommend it. The only bad thing was that it was our anniversary that day, and we had an excursion at 12:00 and we wanted to do it when we came back and then get showered for Palo, but the only appointment they had, (and we booked this before the cruise even,) was 9:00 a.m. We then had to hurry, shower, and get to our excursion. But it was still great, I wouldn't do the package again, that was lame, but the massages, definitely!

We have had several couples massages. One occassion DH chose the well-being while I did the spa taster. This last time we did the opposite well being for me, spa taster with facial for him. We did not book the Villas because of $$, although we did tour them and they are VERY nice. The reason we choose to have the couples vs. individual is that we are very "joined at the hip" and like to spend all of our time together. Having individual massage would mean that during his hour I would be alone and during mine he would be alone. We do understand that not everyone is like us and that many couples enjoy time apart. They did offer an add-on when we cruised 12/10/05 and this was a scrub for our backs. It was not much money so we took it. They also offered products after, which we politely declined and they were ok with that. This is wonderful time for us that we really enjoy.

My husband and I also did the Romance at Sea package on our May 2005 cruise. Neither of us had ever had a massage before, but we loved it.

One caveat - leave time to shower afterwards. They rubbed some oil in our hair (you can ask them not to do this) and we both ended up looking like this :scared1: , the part with the hair up. We had made plans to meet our daughter for a movie right after the massage, so we actually had to go out in public like that. Good thing the movie theater was dark! :rotfl:

I don't know why, and no offense intended, but it sort of grosses me out to think of doing this and wondering what else has gone on in this room. :rotfl: I hope they sterilize it afterward!
