OT--I was wondering what everyone in MA is locking in for oil prices this winter. We just got our contract and they are locking in at $2.39 per gallon!!!!! We live in Central MA. Anybody have any suggestions?!

MKCP5 we just heard from FIL who uses same co. as us, we have not heard yet, 2.43 a gallon. I live in Central MA too...anyone else?

It's going to be brutal!! We rent an old drafty place that we insulate as well as we can, but there is only so much you can do!!!

Call around.... we just locked in at 1.99 & we are in Northern Massachusetts along the NH border...

Geesh! We're in Central MA and our offer is $2.56. I'll have DH make some calls.........

we got it to 2.10 a gallon thru DH teachers union (MTA)--will keep checking though!!

Both DH & I belong to unions, how do we find out about cheaper prices?

I was able to lock in at $2.18 but this also includes service calls we only have to pay for the parts not labor. We are in Southern Worcester County on CT boarder.

Hi I'm not sure if this will help you or not. If you are a member of BJ"S Wholesale club you can order oil through them. You can not lock in however. I ordered oil today and it was 1.88/gal. I used them last year and there prices were always below the others. They go through Priceenergy.com. You have to order at least 150/gal at a time but that seems to be the norm. You may want to0 check it out if you don't mind not being able to lock in.Those lock in prices seem pretty high.Good Luck!

another southern worc county resident here -- on CT border also -- still shopping around for prices -- offered $2.56(OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH)!!!!

Car gas is killing us!!

DH just called our oil company. They are not even sending out contracts, they told us in June they would be out in August, so we waited and waited. Called today and even though brother works for company, they gave in laws (not related to my brother) 2.43 on Monday, today the lock in rate is 2.45. She said that they were going by day and waiting for people to call them. :earseek: DH locked in and I am kind of ticked because they have always mailed a contract out by end of July beg. of August and we had called. Oh well at least we are locked in. We could also pre-pay for 2.39 but DH says no because we didn't use wood stove as much last year and will be this year.

Shelby would you mind giving me the name of your oil company? I am also in in Southern Worcester County near the CT border. $2.18 sounds to be about the best price around here. You can pm or email me.
Thanks!

We're also in central MA and paid 2.199 (pre-paid) last week. My neighbor called today checking prices and was told they are no longer accepting pre-payments, as of today.
Looks like we got it just in time. (I can't believe I said that.) We're really being taken over the coals - no pun intended!

Called a bunch of places last week and locked in at 2.149 with first fill-up at 1.999. Never considered locking in a price before until I read a thread here about two weeks ago and couldn't believe the prices. I hadn't bought oil in months and I think it was under $2 when I did so am I glad I read these boards. Friend called the same co. Friday and was told they were doing any more pre-pay or lock-ins and called a few other companies and got the same answer. I think everyone is frightened about just how high prices might jump :jumping3: and just how cold :cold: it might be.

Good luck everyone.

Brenda

The prices are so terrible. Out house went through around 800 gallons last winter. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this year is at least a little warmer. We got lucky though. I'm in north central Mass and we locked in $2.00 a gallon for as much as we wanted. Given what I'm hearing, I'm very happy with that rate (grrr....).

Shelby could you also let me know the name of the company you use? I am on the MA/CT line and that is a great price.

I'm in PA, but we've used BJ's too. They are (as of last night) at 2.16 a gallon here. We've ordered our last few tanks through an outdoor furniture company around here that is now in the heating oil business. We got filled up today for 2.15 /gal. The only problem is they don't do a rate lock or a pre-pay. But they've been consistantly lower than the companies who do offer rate locks, so I'm taking my chances!

Looks like we'll be wearing lots of layers this year! ;)
