i can't say enough positive things about the tremendous works of those affiliated with shriner's hospitals-my dd just had surgery at one last month

i'm surprised that rainbow girls are able to ask friends to become members, my understanding of the masonic orders (from a former neighbor who was apparantly of some high level) was that the organizations strictly prohibit soliciting members-that membership application can only be attained when a person of their own free choice requests consideration for membership at which time the member they request it from can then provide information and appplication (and if i remember right you have to be reccommended by a member in good standing to even be considered for membership).

i recall as a young teen i was told that i could'nt even be considered for membership because i was catholic (this would have been in the 70's), something to do with the issue of the confessional practices conflicting with the vows of secrecy in masonic groups -and my neighbor who is active to this day cannot be a member of the lutherun church missouri synod because of it's prohibition of masonic membership among church members.

just as an interesting (in my mind) aside-i read an interesting book by a former member of the mormon church which detailed some of the 'secret ceremonies' that take place within the mormom temples-including the sealing of a marriage-and she states that some of them are directly taken from old masonic practices that joseph smith learned during his membership.

My dad was a Mason. I was a Rainbow Girl. My mother belonged to the Eastern Star. There was never anything sinister or conspiratorial about it.

Hmmm, but if the Mason's were behind every great conspiracy, wouldn't you be saying the same thing to throw us off track???

Personally, I think it's the Sacred Order of the Stonecutters behind every conspiracy. Or maybe the Loyal Order of Water Buffalo.

Interesting list, whoever wrote it seem to have a problem with peoples weight, and their sexual proclivity.(?) Don't really see how that is important. Plus several entries note that they are racist. Again, even if that is true, which it may very well be, what is the point?

Yeah I noticed the weight/sexuality things also. That said it was the first place I found a nice list that I know to be pretty accurate as to former members.

That's correct. Its a bigger secret when no one knows. If they think you know the secret and you admit to it, you really don't know the secret. But if you really do know the secret, you don't admit you know it.

My father is a Mason and Shriner (although he doesn't attend anymore). My grandfather was a Mason and Shriner. My grandmother was an Eastern Star.

That's all I know.

I did pose some questions to my father after reading "Da Vinci Code", but he didnt answer them.

For those who are former Rainbow Girls, the current Supreme Worthy Advisor is from my state. I love this woman dearly as she played a huge role in my years of Rainbow.

Way back in the 80's I met the woman who was then the Supreme Worth Advisor. What a nice lady.

I met her at RI's Grand Assembly and I've been to numerous ones in MA both as a RG and an advisory board member. Those are such fun events!!

It makes me sad that Rainbow isn't what it use to be and so many assemblies have closed. The lessons I learned as a member have guided me though my entire life. The Reverend Mark Sexton who wrote the ritual was truly inspired.
