Mask Confusion Already

CDC says wear masks. People start an uproar that they don’t want to wear masks and others say “follow the science. The CDC says so.”

CDC says masks not required. People start getting happy and others say “it’s too soon.”

What happened to following the science?

That is the whole issue, they are not following the "science". On Dr. Gottlieb even said its a mixture of behaviour science and science. If they were following the science 100% they would have waited. Not enough have both shots. Ideally they should have waited until later. Now if a small, private gathering where people trust each other yes.. But in public? I feel bad for store and resturant peole are they now the " are you really vaccinated" police.. We all know most people will toss masks, regardless.

Yup, some people will toss the masks regardless of vaccination status... that was ALWAYS going to be the case. There was never going to be 100% vaccination rate. At a certain point it becomes personal responsibility. They now have studies that show vaccinated people rarely catch the virus, even MORE rarely catch it seriously, and also don’t pass on the virus, and that is what has led to this new CDC decision. Anyone who doesn’t want to get vaccinated and doesn’t want to mask - well, that’s the same as with any other communicable disease.

True, but it's generally put on employees to enforce. The fatigue of dealing with reminding people to do something that is on the sign they just walked past is real. At some point employees just give up.

RIGHT??? So much time PRE-Covid where I would look at my face real quick before running into a store and then cringe and have to pull out the tweezers. Now? Oh well, here goes the mask!

Yes but we are not the ones being hospitalized. I got vaccinated in spite of having natural immunity from having covid, and I still wear a mask in public. I’m not worried about getting covid, that’s actually the least of my worries. My state is now in yellow for the first time, my kids are actually in school 5 mornings a week. An increase in cases will cause all of us to lose more freedom, and we have the unvaccinated and non mask wearers to blame. Maybe you are fine with another shutdown, I’m not.

Some unvaccinated have natural immunity. This goes towards the herd immunity count. I feel comfortable not wearing a mask with natural immunity. Repeat infections if they do happen are usually mild.

Don’t some experts believe we will never hit herd immunity? Most places vaccines are available same day or as walk ins but there’s no demand. When do we finally let it go to personal responsibility? If you refuse to vaccinate you’re on your own.

It seems to me that each governor needs to look at their state’s vaccination rate and number of cases/positivity at this point.

There will always be some amount of disagreement in the scientific community. That doesn't mean there isn't a general consensus regarding the best path.

I feel like some people who don't deal with the scientific method day to day are uncomfortable with this. They probably shouldn't peel back this curtain too far because everything in your life has some level of discussion regarding the best path behind it. For example, I can guarantee there are Engineers who think the bridge you drive across everyday is not safe for travel or the plane you're stepping on shouldn't be allowed to fly.

Be sure to evaluate credentials and background when accessing someone's points as well. A chiropractor should not be speaking on transmission of a virus and vice versa.

I only worked for an amusement park one season, and it got really tiresome reminding people about height requirements. Especially when the requirement is listed on 3 different signs they walk by in the ride queue.

I’m very surprised with this announcement, my only thought was maybe this would push people to get vaccinated? Forgetting the fact that humans are selfish?

Our state's mask mandate was lifted, but there are still places that require it. A local restaurant just lifted their mandate, but the large grocery store chain didn't. I wear the mask when required and don't when it's not. I don't ever wear it outside unless I am at Disney World. Our schools don't require them for outdoor sports participants or spectators. They don't make the requirement that you be vaccinated.

Exactly. I'm not sure why there would be "confusion". Or even why it would be a big deal to wear it if required for that matter...

Waited for what? Everyone 16+ has had access to the vaccine long enough to be fully vaccinated or very close to it at this point. The under 16 crowd has never been the issue. It has always been about adults spreading the virus, getting very ill and becoming hospitalized. If the vast majority of adults are vaccinated, unvaccinated kids should not be a point of concern. Community spread and death rates should be next to nil if adults do their part.
