My DH and I are going to MNSSHP as Mary Poppins and Bert the chimney sweep. I'm very excited to find an outfit he will agree to wear, and one that we can quite possibly not swoon from the heat while wearing.
I'm doing more of her casual look with a blue striped shirt, red tie, white apron and cute little black hat with daisies and cherries.

However...I can't find a black hat that is suitable to attach the cherries and daisies! There are some already made for $28+ on etsy but I want to make it myself. I can't, for the life of me, find a plain black straw or felt hat similar to the one she wore. it doesn't need to be that flat on top...but regardless, I'm drawing blanks in my search.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! I think I've seen that one! Hoping to get one with a bit of a flatter middle part. I keep perusing etsy, ebay etc. Might swing by walmart this week. :)

My family is doing a similar thing for the Disneyland MNSSHP. My daughter already has a Mary Poppins costume I put together and my husband, son and myself are dressing as chimney sweeps. You might be able to find a cute straw hat at Walmart and if you have to you can spray paint it black and add the daisies and cherries. Where did you find your chimney sweep hat. I'm trying to find a cheap one because I have to buy 3. Any ideas?

Well, problem solved!

After researching days and days online, I just couldn't find anything under $28 so I went to Michael's, Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's...and party city too! The only place with a hat that was even close to what I needed was party city and it was a very traditional straw hat and YES I am going to spray it black.

I got the daisies and cherries from Hobby Lobby, the material an apron and skirt and I also got some tapestry to make a little bag. I also have one unique thing I'm adding after watching the video of Mary but I haven't quite found a good resource yet. Still working on it!

The hats for the chimney sweeps, I looking at driving caps mainly. It looks like $10 will be the cheapest I can find. Hubbies's vest came today and I also got a gray shirt at the Thrift and two wine colored bandana's for him to use as a neck rag. Almost there!
