You don't have to be skeletal to have anorexia, it is an eating disorder at any weight. If someone who is 250 starves themselves for months and finally weighs in at 150 pounds but won't eat anything, they still have anorexia and are not skeletal. Anorexia is a disease of the mind.
I am glad that she is strong enough to admit that she needs help. I hope the best for her as it is a long road ahead of her. One problem that many anorexics face when recovering is that they want to recover but not gain any weight. Once the weight starts coming back on, it is difficult to accept and many often slide back down "the other side".
Hopefully, this will shine light on the situation that anybody, males and females, can fall victim to eating disorders. It is not shameful, just as other mental diseases aren't shameful.
I wish her the best. She needs it.
