Seeing some of the "anti" marijuana signatures, made my wheels turn.

I realize many people have never touched the stuff. *I* on the other hand, was not one of them. In fact, if it ever came down to it, I'd vote Pro-Legalization.

I see a much larger problem with alcohol. I think inhibitions, reality, not to mention your liver - being seriously damaged by this stuff. It's (IMO) poison - to an extreme. You could die from drinking too much, just ONE time!!!

Marijuana - on the other hand - you cant "OD". You'd be awfully sleepy, and awfully hungry - but it wont kill you (by it alone)

We'd be a society of very fat, very happy, laid back individuals..... whats all your opinons? Im curious.

I would go back to smoking and never drink again in a heartbeat if they ever legalized it.

This has been discussed before, expect some serious arguing

I've used it for chemo nausea. Also might have tried it once or twice in high school but only by accident and I didn't inhale :rolleyes1 I really don't think it's any worse than cigarettes or alcohol and I don't think it's any more of a springboard substance than any other addictive thing. I'm all for legalization.

While I support the use of it for medicinal purposes, I'm on the fence about legalizing it across the board.

Oh has it? My bad (must'a missed it)

Alright - let the arguing ensue. In fact, Id honestly love to read the ANTI opinions....

What about the risk of lung cancer? I seem to recall a study saying that marijuana was worse than cigarettes in that regard.

I don't think it is any worse than alcohol, and while I am not going to go out and campaign for legalization of it, I would find nothing wrong with it being legal.

It does have its dangers though, just as alcohol and cigarrettes do. I wouldn't want to ride with someone driving after smoking anymore than someone who is drunk-driving, it is bad for your lungs, and it does make some people paranoid rather than laid-back.

You tend not to smoke 20-40 joints a day like you do cigs.

I'm not sure how to now. It is an option under "addition options" when you do a new post. You might be able to edit one in???

Got it thanks - and in honor of such: :smokin:

I'm not going to smoke it whether it's legal or not.

One advantage to legalizing it is it could be regulated. Suffice it to say that pot that is laced with something dangerous can almost kill a person. Also, the government could impose some pretty good taxes on legal pot. They can't if it's not legal.

As far as the danger, I don't think smoking pot is any more dangerous than someone drinking alcohol AND smoking cigarettes. Obviously a person under the influence shouldn't drive, but that holds true for alcohol, also.

I'm so glad you brought this up, because the anti-pot siggie bugs me. Not because of the sentiment, but because the facts are just plain wrong. And to me, it's unfair and dishonest to use inflated or wrong statistics to support your personal position.

From the horse's mouth, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, which (presumably) conducts responsible research and has no interest in downplaying the extent of MJ use, it's a far cry from what is stated in the siggies. Unless they can demonstrate, prove scientifically their statement, I'm going with NIDA.

http://www.drugabuse.gov/ResearchReports/Marijuana/Marijuana2.html#scope

Marijuana is the Nation's most commonly used illicit drug. More than 94 million Americans (40 percent) age 12 and older have tried marijuana at least once, according to the 2003 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH).

Marijuana use is widespread among adolescents and young adults. The percentage of middle-school students who reported using marijuana increased throughout the early 1990s. In the past few years, according to the 2004 Monitoring the Future Survey, an annual survey of drug use among the Nation's middle and high school students, illicit drug use by 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-graders has leveled off. Still, in 2004, 16 percent of 8th-graders reported that they had tried marijuana, and 6 percent were current users (defined as having used the drug in the 30 days preceding the survey). Among 10th-graders, 35 percent had tried marijuana sometime in their lives, and 16 percent were current users. As would be expected, rates of use among 12th-graders were higher still. Forty-six percent had tried marijuana at some time, and 20 percent were current users.

Edited to add: the boldface is mine, just to point out the pertinet stats.

Actually my roommates were more into drinking cases of beer. It was the guys in the dorm suite directly above mine that were the ones who smoked (and grew) the most pot of anyone that I have ever known. They played a lot of Bong Sorry. Don't ask. I don't recall the rules.

Legalize it!
I've never tried it, but why not legalize it? And tax the heck out of it, like booze and tobacco. It's only a gateway to other (illegal drugs) because it exposes the people (children, teens) to interactions with drug dealers who would like nothing better than to have them like a drug that is cheaper for the dealer, more expensive for the user, and physically addictive.

BTW, the true gateway drug is nicotine. Most teens start with a ciggy (or a chaw) before trying pot.

Never had pot, never had a cigarette, never chewed...as for alcohol...maybe I tried it once, but I never swallowed! :rotfl2:

Twist on old Parker Bros. board game, where players must smoke a bong hit upon being "Sorried!" Said to have its origins in MIT in the 1980s.
Not that I've played ;)
