Had a fire and s'mores last night and now DD11 has marshmallow in her long, thick hair. She didn't confess this to me until this morning. She says she tried to wash it out last night, but it didn't work. She ended up going to school with a ponytail this morning, but after school I guess we are doing marshmallow battle. Does anyone know if the peanut butter trick for gum will work on marshmallow? Any other tricks? Thanks!

It should dissolve in warm water. So maybe have her soak her hair in the tub vs. a shower filled with warm water.

Soak the hair in question in warm water for about 5 minutes to help soften the marshmellow, if it hasn't begun to help apply conditioner or baby oil to soften further.

That should do the trick.

I have always had success with a simple hair wash, if it's a big goop, just warm water and shampoo rubbed into it should work.

She's 11? Did she actually use shampoo and warm water? ;)

I can't imagine it wouldn't come out if she really did wash her hair with those components.

Marshmallow should dissolve well on its own. Try just filling up a nice, hot bath with some bubbles or soap in it, and work her hair a little (or have her do it if you're not the family bathing type). It might take a little soaking, but who doesn't enjoy a long bath sometimes? :goodvibes

Thanks to everyone for replying. I guess we'll try the soaking and shampooing thing again before I apply a bunch of peanut butter. She isn't the most careful shampooer and she has a TON of hair.

If it doesn't melt, try freezing it with a few ice cubes. I'd do that before resorting to peanut butter! The only thing I think that'll do in this situation is turn her hair into a Fluffernutter! :rotfl:

It is just sugar and starch the peanut butter will just add Oil to the sugary mess. You need water to dissolve and rinse it away, the oil won't do anything

She just needs to soak it in hot water. If it is far away from the scalp I would have her pull the hair under the faucet in the sink and run hot, very hot water over it until it dissolves. Even if it is close to the scalp I would still rinse it in the sink cause she can use hotter water on head than she will be able to stand in, in a shower.

:banana:Loved the fluffernutter thing! Think we will avoid the peanut butter after reading all the helpful advice. She's home from school now and we're about to dig in. I'll let ya'll know how it works out.

Good luck getting out the marshmellow.

I'm not sure I'd let someone that "isn't the most careful shampooer" have a TON of hair. As Confucious once said..."With tons of hair comes great responsibility." :upsidedow

Love it! ...although I think the Confucious quote was a little different. I helped her wash her hair last night (twice). It still didn't come out so I got conditioner and combed it through with the detangling comb and that did the trick. Thanks to everyone for the help and letting me know the peanut butter wouldn't really work because that would have made a terrific mess (or fluffernutter as one of you so graciously described it). Have a great day everyone and keep sticky stuff out of your hair!
