Does anyone know any things about this resort? I am interested in a layout of the resort. Recommendations for which building to request. Also, do all villas have a view of the Ocean. How close it is to the beach?

Thanks.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. It is very nice, very spread out. It was meant to be a timeshare location, and that's why we went there, to attend the presentation for a cheaper price to stay at the hotel. We didn't end up buying, but the room was very nice. We had a 2 room suite, with a full kitchen. The ocean is a bit of a walk, I would say a couple of miles. We could see the ocean, kind of, out our window. It is a large place, so I really can't help you with recommendations on where to stay, plus some of the rooms are owned by people. It was about a 20 minute drive to Disneyland even during rush hour traffic since there was a carpool lane.

We stayed there a few years ago on a trade. There are cliffs between the resort and the beach. The area is Crystal Cove State Park. You can walk it but it is a trek. We instead drove down PCH to Laguna. Nice beach there. The resort is right off of PCH so easy to get anywhere. We did Disney one day and sent to Sea World and San Diego Zoo on a couple of others.

The resort is very nice. Typical Marriott layout and quality. There is a grocery near by - part of the Kroger chain but I can't remember the name. They gave us directions at the front desk. We did have an ocean view but I can't really comment on if most had an ocean view or not. The resort is built into a hillside so I don't think there would be a bad view. We would stay there again.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I am looking at this hotel for August and rooms are 600 per night. Anyone know of a better deal? thanks

I noticed you have stayed at a couple of the DVC villas. If you are a DVC member, the Newport Beach Villas are on the list of places you can stay with your points.

We are actually here right now.. it is beautiful!!

We lucked out and got a wonderful 180 degree view of the ocean.. but, i can see where lots of units don't have great views..
This place is very very spread out, and very hilly -- if you aren't in shape when you get here, you will be by the end.. LOL
The only thing i would note, is that being how it is laid out and so hilly, it's obviously not condoning to the handicap or elderly.. which we had my gram with us (82yrs old) and so we had to call her a shuttle (aka golf cart) to help get her where she needed to go.. but they were pretty good about that.. only forgot her once so far.. ;)

We drove down to Laguna Beach yesterday beautiful! And up the PCH the other way is Corona Del Mar, again - cute lil' shops, and that is where there is an Albertson's supermarket. There is also a upper class supermarket closer to Newport Coastal Villas - called Pavillions- that is closer than Albersons, but much much more upper class - it is pretty cool.. definately go check it out!

We have a 2 bedroom unit, very large.. the beds are wonderful -- except the pull out beds (sofa beds), if you need to use these, i recommend them for kids -- my 7 yr old is ok on it.. but there is no way i would want to sleep on it for a week.. nooo way. :)

We are here til Saturday am, so if anyone has questions, please let me know!

Caitsmama, when you say you are there right now, do you mean the Marriott or the Newport Beach Villas?

Are you there with kids? How do they like it? How close are you to the beach? Can you walk there, or do you have to take a golf cart or tram?

We've stayed nearby at the Ritz Carlton and the St. Regis, but are looking for a place to stay in the area with our 3 kids that isn't so stuffy. But we want beach access.

Can you give me some info? It would be greatly appreciated!

We are staying at the Marriott Newport Beach Villas. We arrived on Sat, and are staying til this Sat.

If you want direct beach access -- you don't have it. To get to the beach, it's about a 2mile walk -- or you can drive.. Nearby Laguna Beach has a great beach.. but there is definately no direct beach access -
My mom owns 4 weeks with Marriott - with a homebase of Myrtle Beach SC - and that is completely different -- that resort is beach FRONT- you step right out onto the beach..

Here you don't.
We actually haven't been to the beach yet.. LOL It really hasn't been nice enough. Today is off and on showers, and i think we are heading to DCA i think..
The place is definately beautiful -- but if you are looking for a place that has walk out direct beach access, this isn't it. However, they have 3 great pools all right in the same area.. with a beautiful view of the pacific.

Do you mind sharing which villa and room you are staying in. It sounds like we should try to request the same room you are in. I was told we could attempt requests 2 weeks prior to our arrival. You can PM me if you want to. We are celebrating our 20 year anniversary and our oldest's 17 birthday during our trip in a few months. Also, do they sell tickets for attractions at the resort? Do they have scheduled teens activities? I appreciate your help. Thanks. And, have a great time the rest of your trip.

Another question Caitsmama, is the "beach access" private beach, or is it public? Thanks for answering all my questions!

Marriott Newport Beach Villas is about 30 minutes to Disneyland and about an hour to San Diego all dependig on traffic. The beaches are all public and you will need to drive.

We stay there every 4th of July. They are really nice. They usually have a carnival for the kids around 4th of July. They also have several pools there, playground, and a daily kid activity(you have to sign up for the activity in advance). I don't think they all have ocean views but it is something I would request. I would suggest also asking for a top floor villa if you want to avoid the sounds of people running around the room above. The walk to the beach isn't too bad. It's about a mile and a half down to the beach walkways to Crystal Cove. It's a beautiful beach, I have lots of pictures of it if you would like me to share. The walk down from the parking/walkways to the bottom of the beach is very steep but it's usually not too crowded. If you walk in then you save on the parking fees, which can be high at times. Seems like they change the price sometimes.

We stayed here a couple of years ago and used it as our home base. We did Disney, The San Diego Zoo and Sea World. The drive was no big deal for us and we had a great time. We also went to San Juan Capistrano that was neat and went to Laguna Beach. We were there when Ronald Reagan died and drove up to the library to pay our respects. DH was in the military under his presidency. The kids would probably be bored but the library was cool. We went back later to see it. There is a huge piece of the Berlin Wall. That was about an hour 1/2 drive.

The supermarket that I was trying to think of was Ralphs, I believe. You can directions at the front desk - it is really close to the resort. Have a great trip!

You might want to note that the resort is actually Marriott's Newport Coast Villas. They're not on or really near the beach and actually not located in Newport Beach. That being said, we love this resort. We live only about 30 - 40 minutes away but still go there for a week once in a while. We take a day or two off work and along with a weekend, have a great little vaction.

Not all units have a view, but they are very nice.

Edited to add link to pictures we took last time there. NCV pictures
