Marriott's Grande Vista

Has anyone else noticed that as soon as a negative(or less than acceptable) review is posted, there is an immediate review attempting to overide that review on tripadvisor?

Just because Orlando is experiencing an upswing in tourism is not an excuse to let rooms get into states of disrepair.

Debbie655 - No..we are flying...Southwest flew into Phila in May and the rates are great - $98rt

familyoffive-sorry, I have never read trip advisor....I agree, while a room might be unsatisfactory, management has a responsibility to their guests

I am glad to see this thread. I am very interested in booking the MGV for our trip for next April. I really love the way this resort looks like has a fairly upscale, spacious, quiet out-of-the-way feel. instead of the hustle and bustle of most places.... While it also seems to have not forgotten the kids.

My whole complaint is that they are not offering ANY good rates... not AAA, not Gov't employee... not Rewards members... NOTHING. It is pay rack rate (which is very high) or forget it!!! No way are we dealing with a time-share presentation.

I am interested to hear of everyones upcoming experiences at MGV! Also, if anyone has any other recommendations for this type of resort, I would love to hear them as well !

wishing on a star -

This will be my 2nd time staying at MGV. I found owners to rent their villas to me on the www.tug2.net website, under classified/rentals/orlando area for less than $1000. per week. Much less than rack rate.

This is a timeshare resort, not a hotel so discounts like AAA are not offered. I did not have to do a timeshare presentation last time, nor am I required to in April.

Try looking through their rentals and email anyone with a listing for MGV for you're dates. I've already deposited my dates for April 2005.

Good luck, hope you get to stay there :D

For our stay Aug 27-Sept 1, I have a AAA rate of $123.00 per night for a 1BR villa. Not the best but this is a last minute rental (yesterday) to stay with friends who are going on a timeshare presentation...so you can get a AAA rate at MGV. I also have used TUG for a few rentals with much success. You may also want to join Marriott Rewards program...they sometimes offer good discounts and the membership is free. www.marriottrewards.com

Good Luck

We were at MGV last December and in June of this year. It was wonderful. Our kids loved the Kids' Programs and this resort has so many of them. Our unit was refurbished. Both times the same building and it was beautiful. We are timeshare owners and also own at DVC, so I tend to be very picky.

If you can rent from an owner, they can request a refurbished unit for you. No guarantee, but a better chance. Lots of them post on www.tug2.net and offer good deals.

Have fun.

Family of Five, I agree with your observation on Tripadvisor. I noticed the same thing BUT what I also noticed was that on the Vistana Village area of Tripadvisor someone had knocked the resort and made comments such as the room was 25 years old immediately following that there was a response from Vistana Village managment stating that the person had the wrong resort and was actually speaking about the Vistana so I am going to conclude that at least some of the resort management watche that site. I would venture to guess that some of the good reports are simply management trying to offset the bad. It is hard to tell. I often think some of the good reports on this site on places we know are really bad are the same thing but who knows. For the most part I think this board is more reliable than Tripadvisor.

Madscrapper, I cannot believe you did not write a letter to Marriott management. I know I always preach this but when something really bad happens and IMHO getting a child's hand pulled into a jet is bad, you have to let upper managment know. How else can they make a change. Did you ever work in a in retail?? Management always wants to handle problems at the store level no one ever wants to have a problem brought to the attention of the upper level and it the same is true in this case. I have worked in retail management and trust me I know. One letter is multiplied by 100 or somtimes 1000 depending on the company.

Wishing on a Star-- The MGV does offer AAA and other discounts, you just have to keep checking for them and 8 months is a long time away so you have plenty of time to find a good rate. I got a special 3 nights/4 days at a 2 bedroom villa with two seaworld passes for $456 (this is before tax). They also offered me another $150 off or $150 in discounts if I took the timeshare tour which I refuse to do. I guess it's not the best deal but the best I could do and I'm happy with it, beats rack rate of over $200 a night.

We stayed there last summer and yes we had some housekeeping issues but they were fixed when we called the front desk. When we checked into our 2 bedroom villa DH was very impressed. In fact, just last week I made reservations, AAA discount, for late October. $142 a night for a one bedroom. I also am not taking the timeshare tour. We are staying here between our Universal stay and WDW stay.
