Has anyone cashed in their points for the $1,000 gift certificate special they have for platinum members? I can use these just like cash when checking in correct? How does it work to purchase park tickets....do all the hotels sell tickets for various days at the parks? Do they sell one day tix to Universal? Would I just charge them to the room, and then pay my room charge with my remaining gift certificates? Anyone have a problem doing this? Sorry for all the questions!!

We have done this several times over the past few years. We cashed in points for the $1000 3 times and had to do this due to personal reasons.

The good news is they are just like cash. They do expire within 1 year, so make sure you can use them. Please call the 800# to get them mailed to you via express mail (this is free). Twice they came in regular cheap envelopes, which ripped. Thank goodness all the vouchers were not missing. You get 20 $50 vouchers - again treat them just like cash!

If you use them on your room rate, just make sure you can get the best rate possible vs using your points. And yes, charge anything to your room and then pay for your bill with the vouchers. Also, you use them for payment at Marriott owned stores.

You do not get change! So, if your bill is 145, you can either pay the 45 or sometimes i would get a snack to get the price closer to the 150.

If you have any more questions, just PM me.

I will have to add one more thing. In the past, we have considered using the vouchers for tickets too. You may want to contact where you are staying to check on the prices of the tickets - they are often inflated in their prices, that we have never done this. Also, when you call, make sure they will charge your room the price of the tickets - if you decide to do this.

Good luck.

can you walk me through how to do this? I'm not seeing this info readily available on the marriott website....where do I look? Do I have it right that this could be a better way to use point vs. using them for standard Marriott vacation club conversion...as in, I tried to book Cypress Harbour on points and it was charging me 35000 per night, but the platinum special cash rate is 234$.

Click on Marriott Rewards
Then click on Use Marriott Reward Points
Then click on Platinum rewards which is all the way to the right of the screen
Then you should see the 135,000 for $1,000 in gift checks
