Married at First Sight, Season 4

Just starting watching this show on my cables on-demand. Very entertaining. What a train wreck. I think it would be a red flag of possible personality issues just the fact that someone signed on for this -- especially the girl who is 24. Who gives up at 24?! I'm particularly interested in the social worker and the "painfully shy guy." I don't get the impression either of them is actually attracted to one another...or even that they are sure about who they are as people. And I can't wait for the real estate agent/24 year old to discover her husband lives in a bus. :rotfl2:

Still binge watching this. Did anyone else notice the obnoxious generic music...or is it just me because I watch everything with captioning? Some of the lyrics to this music they are playing while they surf and kite surf: "gonna rock gonna roll gonna lose my mind gonna sell my soul...gonna scream..."
"I'm a bitter pill on your tongue...I'm better than nothing...whoa oh....na na na..."
:rotfl:
I think this music is almost as entertaining as this show.

I swear, my DH and I could match couples better than these experts. Ask things like, "Are you terrified of dogs/cats/snakes/fill in the name of whatever pet to the extent that you would not be comfortable living in the same home with a spouse who was very attached to their pet(s) and would not be willing to part with them?" "Would you so resent a spouse who couldn't accept your beloved pets that it would negatively impact the chances of marital success?" Duh.

And for last season, "Are you so rigid in the 'type' you find attractive, that if we match you with someone who doesn't fit your type, that you will find them essentially repulsive even though to any observer, they are easily as attractive as you are, thereby dooming the marriage before it begins?"

And if smoking pot on a fairly regular basis is a dealbreaker for you, then say you want a person who doesn't smoke it at all, because from everything I've ever seen, people lie like rugs about recreational drug use on surveys. If they say they use them once a week, they use it every other day. Once a month very well might mean 4-5 times a month.

At the meeting with the minister last might, I don't feel Derek was being impatient. I think he knows Heather is done and he just wants her to be honest and say it. She says she is tired, exhausted and needs time to think and I am sure he is 99% certain that is a line of bull. She's out. She may be asking herself if there is any way she can tough it out for 4 1/2 more weeks so she can collect the paycheck, but she is clearly not planning on staying married to him. I see a guy who just wants her to admit it if she's already done with the marriage so he can know what he is dealing with and not hold out some unrealistic hope. Derek has a slew of faults too, and I'm not saying he's a prize, but he is correct when he says she was done by day 2-3 and he was still hanging in there, albeit not on his best behavior. One of them is still trying....not the best he could try, but still trying. One isn't. And she isn't being honest about it. When he said, "Just leave," I interpreted that as, "If you are done, then just leave now and don't pretend you are trying until decision day."

One does wonder what is on all those survey's they allegedly fill out, and whether they care about the results. They might be getting at all the more amorphous things like importance of family, religion, etc, and ignore all the day to day things that would really break a marriage if they are not compatible. For me, owning dogs (which I enjoy, just NOT in my home) would be a deal breaker. I couldn't imagine spending the next 40-50 years of my life with a pet that I didn't want! Or feel like I was depriving my partner of something they super wanted.

Sigh.

This is a dumb show which has run it's course. Before people KNEW the premise of the show (the first season, where they told people it was a dating show and sprung on them at the last minute that it was a marriage show), it had some potential. Now, they all know, and I seriously, seriously question the motives of people who say "yes" to this idea. Other than the first season, it has a TERRIBLE track record of success. So, why would you do it? Ugh.

I'm dying to see what's on the survey. Do they ask about recreational drug use? If so, I would love to see Derek's answer.

Anyone here want to apply for season 5 just so we can see what they ask? ;)

I think the dog thing is just dumb. Once again, I'd love to see what/if they asked about. It seems that with allergies being a medical issue, they would almost have to ask something.

So now I'm back to thinking they mostly try to find compatible couples, but that they purposely choose a pair with at least one "interesting" area of conflict just to see it play out on the show.

It was obvious she was scared crapless of dogs (didn't just dislike them) and I told DH that something had traumatized her in childhood. Later that episode, she explained about her young relative getting mauled by Granny's(?) dog while she witnessed it. If I could see it, any decent questionnaire could have picked up on that. You should NEVER match someone with a traumatic childhood incident like this with someone whose dogs crawl and jump all over people. Idiot matchmakers.

I personally think the "you are matched for compatibility" thing is part of the experiment. I don't think these people are compatible in the slightest. "We both like mustard!" I think they are just told that as part of the experiment. And possibly, as you said, there are even elements of complete incompatibility thrown in for good measure (buses, dogs, pot).

Just finished watching last nights episode, I think this will be it with Derek and Heather when they are sitting with the Pastor and he's asking them "do you want a divorce, or are you going to stay married?"
For me after all that went down, imagine saying you're gonna stick it out for another 5 weeks, it would be so awkward and uncomfortable.

I think Derek and Heather are done. Even the pastor seemed to know it but couldn't get her to admit it. We're probably going to see the first couple to not make it the whole 6 weeks. I wonder if they'll bring on abother couple or just focus on the two remaining or continue to film Derek and Heather getting divorced.

What is the song? I haven't heard it before.

No idea. I just realized last night this weird music is only present in the FYI edition of the show. The cable on-demand version I get is on FYI network and the TiVo's episodes are A & E. Apparently FYI edits the show a bunch and adds really bizarre music to the segments.

I thought A & E was the original airing network for this show. That is where TiVo tapes the show from when I set it to record 'new episodes'.

FYI is the network that provides cable on-demand episodes and those are the episodes that are edited differently and have different (wacky) music and I think footage that isn't in the normal episodes either because I don't recall even seeing the whole kiteboarding or surfing sequence in the A & E version (maybe I watched the wrong episode). The episodes on-demand are also shorter. It is strange. Now I feel compelled to tape it off A & E AND watch the FYI episodes to see the other footage (and hilarious music).

Anyone still watching???
I feel like this year the edits are so choppy that you sometimes can't figure out what the heck they are talking about.
90% of watchers knew that it was over for Derek and Heather, but they strung us along for 3 weeks.
Anyone see the scenes for next weeks show where Nick says he is not into Sonia? I feel really bad for her, she is a sweet girl. He is Just on this show to promote his stupid T-shirt line, IMO!
Lily appears to me to be having some anxiety issues, I hope its just due to the surgery and nothing to do with Tom, I like them together.

I'm still watching!

I agree Derek snd Heather were played out way too long. It was obvious they would not make the 6 weeks.

Nick says all the right things but he doesn't seem to be doing anything. I don't see him and Sonia staking together.

I like Lily and Tom too. I think they have the best chance.

I am still watching.

Oh boy. I am not liking this season at all.

Yeah, Derek and Heather are over......didn't like Derek, so no great loss.

Nick.....hmmmm.......I don't see them lasting because I just don't think they are the best match. I can't quite get a handle on their personalities other than they are both quiet and not really connecting well.

It's painfully obvious that Nick isn't attracted to Sonia. I am not an animal person so the dog staying next to the bed all night would be a no go for me. He is an odd one - so monotone and flat all the way around. I like her -she is always smiling and laughing. They won't stay together.

Derek - don't like him and I just think they weren't well matched at all. She is a bit snobby. How old is he that he still dresses like a 20 year old???

I like Lily even though she seems really young sometimes. I like Tom. I hope they make it as I think he is really, really trying to be attentive and caring.

I'm watching. I cannot believe they dragged the Heather and Derrick thing out as long that they did. As I said a while ago, I could tell by the interviews that they were not together anymore.

I saw that commercial for Nick and Sonia, and it did not surprise me, because I thought he has been so cold with her. I know he says he is reserved, but I did find it odd that he never said that she looked pretty on their wedding day, and he keeps saying how he doesn't want to consummate the marriage, and doesn't know when he will want to... Like he has been blaming it on being reserved, but I didn't think that was the case. They both kind of seem to get in their own way and I wasn't so sure if they were going to make it, but I was hopeful. Now, after seeing that commercial, I really don't know

Tom and Lily, I think might make it. If she doesn't panic, which she seems like she is doing since she said she needed surgery. I am not making light of the fact that she needs surgery, but by the way she was crying and beside herself, I thought it was going to be some kind of cancer or horrible life threatening thing. I could actually understand her freaking out and being scared he might leave because she had some life threatening or serious chronic illness, but not for a shoulder surgery. She kind of needs to get a grip. And Tom needs to let go of living in that bus. He keeps bringing it up, but I suppose the producers are probably asking him about it. I hope that's why he is bringing it up. I think he did really well in being supportive for her when she was freaking out about her surgery. He gets big bonus points from me for that. He definitely seems like the best guy out of the three.

ETA: I forgot to say, Nick, reminds me of Ashley (I think that was her name, from last season), monotone and emotionless.
